UW-Stout 84, UW-River Falls 62
RIVER FALLS (February 18, 2009) - Lindsey Gerber (Sr, Exeland) led five UW-Stout players in double figures as the Blue Devils clinched a home first round playoff game with an 84-62 win over UW-River Falls, Wednesday.
Gerber lit up the Falcons for 14 first half points, hitting four 3-pointers before the break. She finished with a game-high five, nearly doubling the Falcons long range output, to finish with 19 points, matching a career-high.
After a slow start, Stout (15-9, 10-5) raced out to a 47-32 halftime lead on the strength of 19-4 run in the final six minutes of the half.
Charlee Edwards (Sr, Danbury) raked the Falcons for 17 points, 12 in the second half. Julia Hirssig (Jr, Rochester, Minn) finished with 14 points, Kim Stokke (Jr, Menomonie) had 12 points and Tricia VanVreede (So, Little Chute) came off the bench for 10 points.
The Falcons (14-10, 7-8) were led by freshman Tiffany Gregorich with 17 points.
Stout will host UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m. Eau Claire is one game ahead of Stout in the WIAC standings. Stout is assured of at least a fourth place finish and will host a first round playoff game, Tuesday, Feb. 24.
