MENOMONIE (December 5, 2009)
- UW-Stout got off on a hot start and never trailed as they defeated sixth ranked and undefeated UW-Whitewater, 65-54, Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils (4-4, 1-1) took the 3-0 lead on a 3-point bucket by Kim Stokke (Sr, Menomonie) with about a minute gone on the clock and kept Whitewater (5-1, 1-1) an arm's length - and more - throughout the rest of the game. Stout took an 11-6 lead four minutes in, allowed Whitewater to within one point couple of times in the first 10 minutes, then roared out to a 12 point lead as Stout went on 9-0 run, getting baskets from four different players in the run.

The closest Whitewater would get in the second half was four points during two occasions. The Warhawks applied full court pressure, but Stokke had a key role in breaking the press throughout the second half.

Stokke finished with 13 points, with nine coming in the first half. Julia Hirrsig (Sr, Rochester, Minn) notched a double-double, scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The Blue Devils held the high-scoring Warhawks well under their per game average of 78.4 points. Kelsey Hendrickson was the only Whitewater player in double digits, notching 11 points.

Stout will be at UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Dec. 9, and at UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Dec. 12.
