MENOMONIE (December 2, 2009) - UW-Stout shot only 32 percent from the free throw line and 1-for-11 from beyond the arc, as they fell to UW-Stevens Point, 78-63, Wednesday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils (3-4, 0-1) stayed tight with the 15th-ranked Pointers (5-1, 1-0) for much of the first half.  Stout's largest lead of the half came five minutes into the game, when Julia Hirssig (Sr, Rochester, Minn.) scored to give her team a 7-3 lead.

There were four ties and 10 lead changes in the closely contested first half.  Stevens Point's lead was only two points with a minute remaining, but a 6-0 run gave them a 44-36 lead going into the locker rooms.

The Pointers stretched their lead to 12 points within the first minute of the second half, and Stout could never get any closer than six points.  The Blue Devils shot 0-for-9 from three-point land, and 5-for-16 from the charity stripe.

Stout's Hirssig led all players with 21 points, followed closely by Point's Britta Petersen, who netted 20.  Peterson also led the field in rebounds, recording a double-double with 10 boards.

Stout will return to action this weekend when they host WIAC opponent UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Dec. 5.  Game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
