EAU CLAIRE (December 12, 2009) -
Megan Maslowski (Sr, Marshfield) scored five points in the final 2-minutes, 42-seconds to help UW-Stout ease past UW-Eau Claire, 67-66, Saturday at Zorn Arena.
In a game that was tied 11 times, Maslowski broke the 11th tie with a 3-point bucket with 2:42 left on the clock, then dished off a pass 20 seconds later to
Kimmy Keehr (Fr, Spring Valley). As Eau Claire continued to stay close, Maslowski drained a pair of free throws with nine second left to give Stout (6-4, 3-1) a 67-63 lead.
Following a timeout, the Blugolds' Jess Freagon hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left for what would prove to be the final score and Stout broke a five game skid to the Blugolds (3-6, 2-2).
The game was close from the beginning, with Stout taking small leads throughout, only to see Eau Claire either tie or take brief leads. Stout held a 26-24 halftime lead and ran up to a nine-point, 47-38 lead with 12 minutes left in the game.
Eau Claire tied the game at 50, 52, and 58, but Stout always had an answer, whether it was a layup by
Julia Hirssig (Sr, Rochester, Minn) and
Janice Reeves (Fr, Stratford) or the 3-pointer by Maslowski.
Hirssig finished the game with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Maslowski finished with 16 points, two points of her career best. Maslowski led Stout with four assists. For the second consecutive game, Stout was close to sizzling at the free throw line, hitting12-of-14 charity shots (84.6 percent).
The Blugolds got a game-high 22 points from Hannah Mesick, 20 in the second half. Sarah Bingea had 12 points and Freagon 10.
Stout is off until Monday, Dec. 28 when they play Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Trinity Tournament in San Antonio, Texas.
