UW-Stout 68, UW-La Crosse 65
LA CROSSE (December 10, 2009) -
Danielle DeWitt (Sr, Green Bay) hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in the game to give UW-Stout their first lead in over 13 minutes and the Blue Devils went on to down UW-La Crosse, 68-65, Thursday at Mitchell Hall.
Trailing 65-63, DeWitt took a pass from
Kim Stokke (Sr, Menomonie) and pulled up to drain the long range bomb to give Stout a 66-65 lead. The Blue Devils, who held as much as an 11-point lead in the first half, made a pair of free throws and DeWitt blocked an attempted 3-point shot by Melissa Lang at the buzzer to seal the win.
Stout (5-4, 2-1) had a 34-28 halftime lead, but watched that dissolve as the Eagles (5-4, 0-3) shot out to as much as a nine point, 61-52, lead with five minutes left to play.
Stout's
Julia Hirssig (Sr, Rochester, Minn) led all scorers with 20 points. DeWitt finished with 12 points and
Kayla Windt (Fr, Pence) and
Megan Maslowski (Sr, Marshfield) each added 10 for the Blue Devils.
The Eagles got 14 points from Dana Churchill, 13 from Stacie Van Handel, 12 from Lindsey Litrena and 10 from Taylor Hanson. Danielle Frank had 14 rebounds.
Stout has won 28 of the last 30 meetings with La Crosse.
Stout will play at UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m., then are off until they play two games at the Trinity, Texas, University tournament, Dec. 28-29, in San Antonio, Texas.
