Game Notes
MENOMONIE (November 6, 2009) - UW-Stout rediscovered their offense as the Blue Devils cruised past St. Mary's, 6-1, in a non-conference contest Friday night at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
Andy Sternberg (Sr, Duluth, Minn) scored two goals, a short-handed and a power goal, and
Branden Gay (Jr, Calgary, Alberta) had four assists to lead the power surge.
The Blue Devils (1-2-0) opened the game when
Garrett Grimstad (Fr, Rochester, MInn) scored his first collegiate goal 38 seconds into the contest. The rest of the first period was scoreless as St. Mary's outshot the Blue Devils, 9-8, in the stanza.
But Stout blew the cap off the net in the second period, scoring four goals. Sternberg scored shorthanded 3:49 into the period.
Scott Motz (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn) scored at 9:10, before Sternberg scored on the power play at 12:46.
Joel Gaulrapp (Sr, Owatonna, Minn) closed out the scoring in the second with a goal at 17:23.
The Blue Devils added a second play goal 50 seconds into the third period when
Robert Carr (Jr, Roseau, Minn) took a pass from his brother
Sam Carr (Fr, Roseau, Minn). St. Mary's (0-3-0) got on the board with less then two minutes left in the game by Morgan Shepherd.
Tom Lescovich (Fr, Clifton Park, NY) picked up the win with two periods of work and recorded 15 saves.
Mike Morgan (So, Northfield, Minn) worked the third period for five saves.
Stout will host St. Thomas, Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
