A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS:
- The Blue Devils finished the 2021 season with eight players over the 10 point margin. Of those eight, Stout returns five of them. Those five are Dylan Rallis, Matt Dahlsiede, Caleb Serre,Cole Beckstead, and Peyton Hart. Rallis leads the way with 17 points, scoring a team-high nine goals and adding eight assists. Rallis has one shorthanded goal. Freshman Peyton Hart has seven goals and six assists. Beckstead (5-5-10) and Riley Enderle (4-0-4) each have four goals. Dahlseide (3-7-10), Nagel (3-6-9), and Alec Skar (3-4-7) each have three goals.
- Hart, Dahlseide, Beckstead, Peter Verstegen, Matt Flodell and John Jebamani all scored a power play goal last season.
- Rallis, Hart, Nagel, Skar and Verstegen each have a short-handed goal. Skar and Verstegen scored their shorthanded goals against Northland College, Jan. 20, the first time the Blue Devils have scored two shorthanded goals in the same game since 2011.
- Stout has five goalies last season and freshman Tyler Masternak snared four of Stout's eight wins. The freshman posted a GAA of 3.56 with a saves percentage of .891. Zack Cloutier has picked up the other four wins, and has recorded a GAA of 3.28 and a saves percentage of .904. Brennan Kitchen has a GAA of 3.69 with a saves percentage of .878. Masternak and Cloutier each have been credited with an assist on a goal this year.
- On the power play, Stout finished 12.6 percent (11-87) and 78.1 (16-73) on the penalty kill.
- The Blue Devils averaged 2.6 goals per game and gave up 3.6 goals per game.
BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Devils split with UW-Superior last weekend with each team winning on their opponent's home ice. Stout won at Superior, 6-4, Feb. 11, and the Yellowjackets took a 5-2 win in Menomonie, Feb. 12.

- 2019-20: Goalie Brennan Kitchen, defenseman Connor Chambers and forward Logan Nelson earned WIAC honorable mention honors. Lucas Carroll was selected to the all-sportsmanship team...Brennan Kitchen was selected as the WIAC hockey athlete of the week after stopping 55 shots in a 4-0 shutout over Northland College, Jan. 25. On the weekend, Kitchen had 88 total saves...After scoring three goals and an assist over the weekend against Bethel University and Hamline University, Konnar Dechaine was selected as the UW-Stout athlete of the week, Jan. 13…After scoring two goals each night in a loss to UW-Stevens Point and a win over UW-Superior, Logan Nelson was selected as the WIAC Athlete of the Week.
UW-STOUT COACH MIKE MACDONALD
- The 2022-23 season marks Mike MacDonald's (14-26-0) third season as the Blue Devils' head coach. (began the 2022-23 season at 12-26-0)
- Before coming to Stout, MacDonald coached four seasons at Curry College, near Boston, Mass. Prior to joining Curry, he spent a year as an assistant coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.
- MacDonald graduated from the SUNY Geneseo with a degree in Business Administration in 2007. During his time at Geneseo, the team posted a record of 67-33-11, winning the SUNYAC Championship in 2005 and 2006. Over his collegiate career, MacDonald appeared in 109 games and is among the school's all-time leaders in goals (61) and points (120).
- MacDonald played six seasons professionally. He began his professional career in the Central Hockey League, spending one season each with the Odessa Jackalopes and New Mexico Scorpions. The following four seasons he played primarily for the Southern Professional Hockey League's Huntsville Havoc. While there he served as the team's captain for three seasons. In 2010 he scored the game-winning goal to give Huntsville its first ever SPHL Championship. Over his career, MacDonald appeared in 338 professional games with 213 points on 84 goals and 129 assists.
- MacDonald is a native of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
THE CONFERENCE:
- UW-Stout is a member of the six-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The WIAC is made up of Stout, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior and UW-River Falls. Northland College joined the league last season. UW-Eau Claire was picked to win the league title, according to a preseason poll conducted by conference coaches and sports information directors. UW-Stevens Point was chosen second, UW-River Falls third, UW-Superior fourth, UW-Stout fifth and Northland sixth.

LENDING AN ASSIST: In the 2021-22 season, goalie Tyler Masternak had two assists, in a WIAC tournament game vs. UW-Superior, Feb. 19, 2022 and Masternak recorded his first collegiate assist against Bethel University, Jan. 7, 2022...goalie Zack Cloutier dished an assist Oct. 30, 2021 against Concordia-Wis...Goalie Zack Cloutier chalked up an assists against Concordia University-Wisconsin, Oct. 30, 2021...Goalie Evan Bisek recorded an assist against Marian University, Nov. 2, 2019...Two different Stout goalies earned assists during the 2015-16 season. Spencer Viele was awarded an assist Nov. 6 against Bethel University, then added a second assist Jan. 29 at UW-Superior and Chase Hollander earned an assist Nov. 21, 2015, against Concordia. The three helpers mark the first time two UW-Stout goalies have gotten an assist in the same year since the team returned to varsity status 20 years ago...When Spencer Viele was awarded an assist against Bethel University, Nov. 6, 2015, he was not the first Stout goalie, and won't be the last, to get an assist. Since the Blue Devil hockey program returned to varsity play during the 1996-97 season, seven goalies have earned at least one assist. Chase Hollander was awarded an assist for his pass as Danny Ray scored against UW-Superior, Jan. 17, 2015. Corey Koop did it during the 2013-14 season, Jeff Stone during the 2008-09 season, and Jake Schuman during the 2004-05 season each recorded an assist. Jeff Dotson did it in 2000-01 as a freshman, then did it again as a senior in 2003-04. Kelly Elde did it twice during the 1996-97 season.

STOUT'S RANKED HISTORY: The Blue Devils were last mentioned in the USCHO.com poll Nov. 19, 2018 and received a single vote in the Dec. 3 rankings before dropping out...the last time the Blue Devils were mentioned was with one vote in the Oct. 31, 2016 poll...The last time Stout was mentioned was Jan. 18, 2016...The Blue Devils returned to the USCHO.com Division III poll, Jan. 18, 2016, after nearly a four year hiatus, receiving five votes. A tie and two straight losses the following week dropped the Blue Devils out of the poll. Stout finished the 2008-09 season as the second ranked team in the USCHO.com poll. With the exception of the Nov. 17, 2008, USCHO.com poll, Stout had been ranked in the top 15 since the Nov. 13, 2006, poll. Stout made their first appearance in the poll on Nov. 27, 2000, when they received one vote, then moved up to 10th the following week. The 2008-09 season ending poll matched Stout's previous high mark of second in the Jan. 29, 2007, poll. Stout opened the 2009-10 season ranked third, their highest-ever season-opening ranking, but fell out of the polls midway through the season and returned to the top 15, Nov. 22, 2010. HOME ICE: The Dunn County Board in 2015 approved renaming the Dunn County Ice Arena the Fanetti Community Center in recognition of Marilyn Fanetti's contribution to fundraising efforts undertaken by the Menomonie Youth Hockey Association to remodel and add to the arena at the Dunn County Recreation Park. Fanetti donated $370,000 to the project and asked that the hockey arena and new community room be named for her family.
