UW-Stout 81, Northwestern College 67
ST. PAUL, Minn (November 24, 2009) - UW-Stout got on track but, more importantly, got into the win column with an 81-67 win at Northwestern College Tuesday.
The Blue Devils (1-3) opened the season with three straight losses, but everything fell together at Ericksen Center as
Julia Hirssig (Sr, Rochester, Minn) racked up her second double-double of the season by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. The All-American forward also set a career mark in assists with three.
But it was freshman
Kayla Crowley (McFarland) who got the Blue Devils started. Crowley scored 12 points off the bench, all in the first half.
Stout led 49-30 at halftime and led by no less than 14 points and as much as 23 points throughout the second half.
Kim Stokke (Sr, Menomonie) matched a career-high in points, tossing in 14 points.
Megan Maslowski (Sr, Marshfield) had four steals as the Blue Devils forced 21 turnovers.
The Eagles (2-2) got 19 points from Ariel Liesch, 15 from Katie DeWitt and 14 from Allison Johnson.
Stout will host St. Scholastica, Saturday, Nov. 28 at 5 p.m. in the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout at Johnson Fieldhouse. St. Benedict will face Wartburg College at 1 p.m. The consolation game will be at 11 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 29 and the championship game will follow at 3 p.m.
