St. Cloud State 90, UW-Stout 79
ST. CLOUD, Minn (November 15, 2009) - UW-Stout stayed with NCAA Division II St. Cloud State most of the way, but the game started to slip away with about four minutes left to play and the Huskies took a 90-79 win at Hallenbeck Hall Sunday in both team's season opener.
Stout held as much as an 11 point lead in the first half, but the Huskies carried a 39-34 lead into the halftime locker room. The Blue Devils several times tied the game early in the second half, the last time with about eight minutes remaining in the game. St. Cloud went on a 6-1 run to jump out to a 70-65 lead and Stout would get only as close as three points once the rest of the way.

Julia Hirssig (Sr, Rochester, Minn) fouled out with two minutes left in the game as St. Cloud held a six point lead. Hirssig finished the game with 28 points, hitting 10-of-13 from the floor and 8-of-14 from the charity line. Hirssig also notched a double-double with 11 rebounds.
Kim Stokke (Sr, Menomonie) finished with 12 points for the Blue Devils.
Megan Maslowski (Sr, Marshfield) scored seven points, all from the free throw line. The Huskies' Talisha Barlow led all scorers with 31 points. Barlow was 12-of-14 from the line. Aaryn Booker added 18 points.
The game had first game jitters for both teams. Stout committed 36 turnovers to 33 for St. Cloud State. Stout connected on 31-of-43 free throws, while St. Cloud made 43-of-53 free throws. St. Cloud was whistled for 32 fouls, while Stout was called for 39.
Stout will be at Cardinal Stritch University, Friday, Nov. 20 and at Carroll University, Saturday, Nov. 21.
