UW-Eau Claire 73, UW-Stout 68
EAU CLAIRE (December 6, 2008) - UW-Eau Claire made their run at UW-Stout midway through the second half and went on to a 73-68 win over the Blue Devils, Saturday, at Zorn Arena.
Stout (4-2, 0-1) led 31-29 at halftime, then moved to as much as a four point lead. But the Blugolds (7-0, 1-0) took a 60-59 lead with six minutes remaining and never trailed, although Stout pulled to within one point, 69-68, after falling behind by as much as 10 points.
The Blugolds got 31 points from Heidi Arciszewski, as the guard was a perfect 16-of-16 from the free throw line. Heather Witt and Hannah Mesick each added 12 points.
The Blue Devils found a fair amount of success from the three-point arc, hitting 11-of-18 from downtown. Charlee Edwards (Sr, Danbury) knocked down all four of her 3-point attempts and finished with 19 points and recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds. Julia Hirssig (Jr, Rochester, Minn) finished with 11 points and Tricia VanVreede (So, Little Chute) chipped in 10 points.
Stout will host UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. and UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.
