Blue Devils roll over Eagles in second half

- UW-Stout scored 23 unanswered points in the second half on their way to a 26-14 win over UW-La Crosse Saturday at Don and Nona Williams Stadium.

Craig Warminski (Fr, Stanley) rolled up his second consecutive 200-plus yard running game and nailed the win with a 71-yard touchdown run with only minutes left on the clock. Warminski finished the day with 207 yards on 32 carries. On the final drive, Stout (5-3, 3-2) used five plays to go 80 yards. 

The Eagles (2-6, 2-3) scored the first 14 points of the game, both on runs by Reid Oldenburg. Oldenburg scored on a four yard run with six minutes left in the first quarter, then added a 77-yard scoring run minutes into the second quarter.

The Blue Devils' only first half points came on a 20 yard field goal by Kyle Martin (Jr, Hubertus) to cut the lead to 14-3 heading into intermission. Martin got the Blue Devils going in the second half with a 37 yard field goal three minutes into the half. 

Stout extended the lead with a 5-yard pass from Kyle Provos (Jr, Brooklyn Center, Minn) to Patrick Mengelkoch (So, Champlin, Minn) in the corner of the end zone with 1:21 left in the third.

Warminski gave Stout a 20-14 lead with a 5-yard run at 7:11 in the fourth and then he nailed the win with the 71-yard scamper.

Stout finished with 449 total yards of offense, 303 on the ground. Trevor Fiege (Fr, Menomonie) finished with 38 yards rushing, while Provos rambled and scrambled for 64. Provos completed 10 passes for 146 yards. Mengelkoch had three catches for 96 yards, including a 59 yard play.

Defensive end Marcus Ball (Jr, Austin, Minn) had another stellar game, recording three sacks and six tackles for losses of 25 yards.

The Eagles finished with 265 total yards of offense, 102 on the ground, 163 in the air. Oldenburg rushed five times for 85 yards. Quarterback Nick Anker completed 14-of-32 passes for 163 yards.

Stout will be at UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Nov. 8 for a noon start.
