UW-Stout Athletes of the Week (May 9, 2022)
Baseball position player of the week
Charlie Szykowny, SS, 6-3, 200, Sr, Palos Heights, Ill. (Alan B. Shepard)
Over the course of eight games last week as UW-Stout lost to UW-Whitewater, May 2, 14-2, 12-4, swept Ripon College, 5-4, 15-5, May 4, and took all four games against Finlandia University, May 6-7, 7-0, 6-2, 12-3, 9-6, Charlie Szykowny batted .481 (13-27), scoring 13 runs, with three doubles a triple and four home runs, driving in 10 runs. In the outfield, Szykowny was perfect in 43 chances (18 put outs, 25 assists). Against Ripon alone, Szykowny was 7 for 8 with seven RBI, five runs scored, with a double, a triple and three home runs. Szykowny also went to the mound in the final game against Finlandia, earning a save and striking out three in the final inning. For the season, Szykowny is hitting .398 (64-161) with 13 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs, 55 RBI, six stolen bases and has a fielding percentage of .937 in 206 chances.

Jace Baumann, RHP, 5-10, 180, Sr, Mosinee, Wis.
Jace Baumann pitched a complete game one-hitter in a 7-0 win over Finlandia University, May 6. Baumann pitched no-hit ball into the sixth inning when Finlandia hit a single through the left side on the infield. Baumann recorded a career-high nine strikeouts and allowed two walks. No runners got further than second base as Baumann faced 31 batters, forcing seven flyouts and 12 groundouts. In the second game on May 6, Baumann was inserted into the game as a pinch runner.

Baseball pitcher of the week
Cody Urban, RHP, 6-4, 185, Jr, Deerbrook, Wis. (Antigo)
This past week, Cody Urban pitched 6.0 innings in one start, allowing three runs, two earned, striking out four and walking two while scattering nine hits and left the game with the score tied at 3-3. Urban started the opener April 25 against UW-La Crosse but did not figure into the decision. For the season, Urban has pitched 45.1 innings and started seven games, with 24 strikeouts, an ERA of 5.12 and a 2-3 overall record.

Softball position player of the week
Ashley Jacobson, 1B, 5-6, So, Roseville, Minn.
Ashley Jacobson hit her first collegiate home run and the round tripper proved to be the game-winning hit and run as the Blue Devils defeated UW-Platteville 2-1 April 24. Over the course of six games last week, Jacobson hit .455, going 5-11, with a double and a home run.

Charlie Szykowny hit three home runs over four games this past week to extend his conference lead in the category with 13 round trippers, two short of the school season record. Szykowny was 6 for 15 this week, with a double and three home runs.

Kaden Martin finished second at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.55 seconds. That time ranks second in the conference and 11th in the nation.

Kevin Ruechel won the shot put at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse with a throw of 17.61m (57’9.5”). He currently ranks first in the conference and second in the nation.

Hannah Zastrow, So, Spencer, Wis. - WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week
Hannah Zastrow won the 100 hurdles at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse with a time of 14.05, breaking her own school record. That time ranks first in the conference and first in the nation.

Hannah Miller, Sr, Beloit, Wis. (Turner)
Hannah Miller finished second in the long jump, 5th in the triple jump and 7th in the javelin at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse. Her jump of 5.68m (18’7.75”) in the long jump is second the conference and 13th in the nation. Her jump of 11.77m (38’7.5”) in the triple jump ranks third in the conference and 18th in the nation.

Quintin Gonzalez, RHP, 6-1, 270 Fr, Apple Valley, Minn. (Rosemount)
Quintin Gonzalez earned his first collegiate save by going the final three innings of an 8-3 win over 17th-ranked UW-Stevens Point April 16. Gonzalez entered the game in the seventh inning with a 5-3 lead and struck out the first batter looking. Gonzalez went on to strike out three total batters – two looking - allowed no walks and scattered four hits. Gonzalez forced a double play to end the eighth inning and recorded four ground outs and two flyouts.

Softball position player of the week
Shannon Jones, SS, 5-6, Sr, Watertown, Wis. (Lakeside Lutheran)
Over four games last week, Shannon Jones hit .583, going 7 of 12 with two doubles, a triple and two RBI. Jones recorded at least one hit in every game last week, going 2 for 3 and 3 for 4 in losses to UW-Oshkosh, April 9 and 1 for 3 and 1 for two in losses to UW-Whitewater, April 10. On the season, Jones is batting .381 (24-63) with eight doubles, three triples, a home run and 13 RBI.
Baseball position player of the week
Levi Wilson, 2B, 5-8, 175, Jr, Minneapolis, Minn. (Southwest)
Levi Wilson hit at a .500 clip over four games, notching seven hits in 14 at-bats in four games at UW-Oshkosh, April 9-10. Wilson was 3 for 3 in a 5-3 loss against the Titans and was 4 for 6 with two RBI in a 12-5 win over Oshkosh, driving in runs to put Stout up 4-1 in the third inning and 9-4 in the sixth inning. For the weekend, Wilson drew two walks, had a sacrifice bunt, stole one base and had a fielding percentage of 1.000 in 14 chances.

Connor Hemme, RHP, 6-3, 200, Jr, Eden Prairie, Minn.
Connor Hemme recorded his first career save, throwing 3.0 innings of relief ball in a 12-5 win at UW-Oshkosh, April 10. Hemme did not allow a hit in his three innings on the mound and had three strikeouts, two looking. Hemme allowed one walk and the only other runner came on a passed ball following a strikeout.

Spencer Schultz finished second in the 1500m at the Ashton May Invite at UW-La Crosse April 9 with a time of 3:53.11. That time leads the conference and ranks 16th in the nation.

Jacob Backes won the pole vault at the Ashton May Invite at UW-La Crosse April 9 with a vault of 4.80m (15'9"). That vault leads the conference and ranks ninth in the nation.

Hannah Zastrow, So, Spencer, Wis. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week / WIAC/Kwik Trip Track Athlete of the Week
Hannah Zastrow won the 100-hurdles at the Ashton May Invite at UW-La Crosse April 9 with a time of 14.09. That time leads the conference, ranks second in the nation and set a new school record, breaking her own school record of 14.23, a mark she set at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship.

Hannah Miller finished third at the Ashton May Invite at UW-La Crosse April 9 in the triple jump and fourth in the javelin. Her triple jump of 11.74m (38'6.25") ranks third in the conference and ninth in the nation. Her javelin throw of 35.86m (117'8") ranks third in the conference.

Baseball position player of the week
Joel Thimsen, 3B, 6-2, 200, Sr, Minnetonka, Minn. - WIAC/Kwik Trip Position Player of the Week / UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Joel Thimsen stayed hot as UW-Stout won eight conference games last week. The senior third baseman hit .438 over four wins over UW-Platteville, March 28-29, and UW-Eau Claire, April 2-3. Thimsen was 14 of 32 with 15 runs scored, hitting three doubles, and two home runs for 13 total RBI. Thmsen posted a slugging percentage of .719 and drew seven walks and was twice hit by a pitch to post a .561 on-base percentage. Thimsen stole three bases. Thimsen gave Stout the lead for good with a with a two-run single in the eighth inning an 11-6 win over Eau Claire, April 2. For the season, Thimsen is hitting .469 (30-64) with 23 runs scored, seven doubles, one triple, two home runs, 30 RBI, with a slugging percentage of .703 and an on-base percentage of .565. Thimsen has stolen four bases and the third baseman has a fielding percentage of .914.

Cody Urban, RHP, 6-4, 185, Jr, Deerbrook, Wis. (Antigo)
Cody Urban went 2-0 last week, including a complete game 3-0 shutout over UW-Eau Claire, April 3 and threw seven innings in a 7-3 win over UW-Platteville, March 29. Against Eau Claire, Urban scattered six hits – all of them singles – and struck out five and walked none in notching his first collegiate shutout. In seven innings against Platteville, Urban allowed three earned runs and 10 hits, again striking out five and no walks. On the week, Urban pitched 16.0 innings, gave up 16 hits but only three earned runs. He gave up no walks and struck out 10. For the season, Urban has appeared in five games for 28.2 innings pitched with 15 strikeouts and seven walks. Urban has an ERA of 5.34 and a 2-1 overall record.

Kaden Martin won the 110-hurdles in a field of 17 at the Hamline Invite, April 2, with a time of 14.91. That time leads the conference and 12th in the nation. Martin was also a member of the first place 4x100-meter relay team.

Jacob Bugella, Sr, Rice Lake, Wis. - WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week
Jacob Bugella finished fourth in the hammer throw at the Rhodes College Invite, March 19, and was the top NCAA Division III competitor. His mark of 58.78m (192'10") currently leads the conference and is third in the nation.
Women's track athlete of the week
Hannah Zastrow, So, Spencer, Wis.
Hannah Zastrow finished second in the 100-hurdles at the Hamline Invite, April 2, and was the top NCAA Division III competitor in the event. Her time of 14.42 currently leads the conference and is fifth in the nation. Zastrow also finished third in the high jump at the Hamline Invite and was the top DIII competitor in that event.
Women's field athlete of the week
Demi Ploor, Sr, Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (Sevastopol)
Demi Ploor finished sixth in the hammer throw at the Rhodes College Invite, March 19, and was the top NCAA Division III competitor. Her throw of 52.50m (172'3") currently leads the conference and is fourth in the nation.
Women's golf athlete of the week
Kendra Swanson, Jr, Beaver Dam, Wis.
Kendra Swanson scored a career-low 72 at the Viterbo University V-Hawks Invitational Sunday at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course. The one-over par score was good for second at the meet and tied for fourth-best single round score in school history.

Softball position player of the week
Lexy Kupczak, C, 5-4, So, Somerset, Wis. (New Richmond)
Lexy Kupczak was 3 for 4 over two games, with four RBI, three runs scored and three extra-base hits as UW-Stout split with Bethany Lutheran College, March 26, in a late evening doubleheader at the MSU Dome. In a 15-3 win, Kupczak was 2 for 3 with three RBI and two doubles. Kupczak drove in a run with a double to center to begin a five-run inning for the Blue Devils. In her second at-bat in the fifth inning, Kupczak delivered a two-run double to cap off an eight-run fifth. In an 8-4 second game loss, Kupczak slammed a pinch-hit solo home run in the seventh inning. The sophomore catcher finished the night with a slugging percentage of 2.000 and an OPS of 2.800. For the season, Kupczak is hitting .294 with three doubles three home runs, 10 RBI, a slugging percentage of .851and an OPS of 1.234.
Softball pitcher of the week
Anna Blanford, RHP, 5-8, Fr, Elmwood, Wis.
Freshman Anna Blanford improved her record to 4-1 with a 15-3 five-inning win in the first game of a doubleheader at Bethany Lutheran College, March 26, then pitched two scoreless innings, throwing the last two innings, in an 8-4 loss to the Vikings. In the late evening contests at the MSU Dome, Blanford scattered seven hits and allowed three runs, but only one earned run, in the opener. Blanford struck out two. In the second contest, Blanford entered the game in the bottom of the fifth with Stout trailing by the eventual final score. Blanford allowed only one hit in each inning and shut out the Vikings after they had scored at least one run in each of the previous four innings. In the doubleheader, Blanford threw 7.0 innings, struck out two and walked two, allowing only one earned run. For the season, Blanford has an ERA of 1.18 in eight appearances, pitching 35.2 innings. Blanford has allowed 32 hits and 11 runs, but only six earned. She has notched 11 strikeouts and four walks.

Mikala Bugge won the national vault title at the NCGA Championship, March 26, with a personal-best score of 9.800.

Softball position player of the week
Emma Muehlenbeck, OF, 5-8, Fr, Mount Prospect, Ill
Freshman Emma Muehlenbeck finished off UW-Stout's spring trip by hitting .381, going 8 of 21 for the week, recording at least one hit in seven of the team's final eight games. Muehlenbeck recorded an RBI single against Wooster College and was 2 for 3 against Plattsburgh State. In the outfield, Muehlenbeck was perfect in 13 chances and recorded an outfield assist against Plattsburgh.

Anna Blanford, RHP, 5-8, Fr, Elmwood, Wis.
Freshman Anna Blanford posted a 2-1 record over five appearances on UW-Stout's spring break trip, making two starts and throwing 23.2 innings. Blanford allowed eight runs, five earned, for an ERA of 1.48. Blanford went the distance in earning wins over Macalester College and Western New England. Against Western New England, Blanford recorded a collegiate best four strikeouts. Blanford had at least one strikeout in every appearance. Blanford allowed only one walk while facing 94 batters.

Charlie Szykowny batted .500, drove in 16 runs, posted a five-game home run streak and recorded his first collegiate win on the mound in UW-Stout's final seven games of their spring break trip last week from Monday, March 13 to Saturday, March 19. Stout was 5-3 on the trip to improve their overall record to 5-5. Szykowny reached base safely in every game, stretching his on-base streak to all 10 games this season. In the final seven games of the spring break trip, Szykowny had multiple base hits in six games. Szykowny was 4 for 6 with three RBI against Skidmore, March 14. Also in the game, Szykowny began a consecutive streak of five games hitting a home run. Szykowny had a grand slam in their second game against Lasell University, going 2 for 3. Szykowny was 2 for 4 against fourth ranked Eastern Connecticut, 4 for 6 against Skidmore, 1 for 5 against St. Michaels, 3 for 4 in the first game against Lasell, 2 for 3 in their second game against Lasell, 2 for 5 against Eastern Connecticut and 2 for 5 against US Merchant Marines on the final day of the trip. Szykowny had multiple RBI in six games. Szykowny recorded a save earlier in the week and recorded his first collegiate win, pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless ball, allowing two hits and striking out four in an 11-9 win, 10-inning win over Merchant Marines. For the season, Szykowny is hitting .455 with six doubles, one triple and five home runs with 18 RBI.

Cooper Beving, LHP, 6-0, 195, Sr, Norwalk, Iowa
In his first mound appearance since 2018, Cooper Beving started and worked four complete innings in a scheduled seven inning 11-0 win the second game of a doubleheader with Lasell University, March 17. The lefty gave up one hit and one walk over the four innings and did not allow a runner past first, erasing both runners on a fielder choice.

Jace Baumann got the call for UW-Stout in the season opener, March 8, against Bethel University, pitching five innings of scoreless ball, while scattering three hits.
Baseball position player of the week
Joel Thimsen, 3B, 6-2, 200, Sr, Minnetonka, Minn.
After three games this past week, all against Bethel University, Joel Thimsen has batted .500 (5-10) with five RBI and is perfect in the field in 14 chances. In the Blue Devils' Florida opener, March 13, against Bethel, Thimsen was 2 for 4 with three RBI, driving in a run to tie the game in the third period, drove in a run with a single to center field in the third and added another run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth In the season-opening doubleheader March 8 at US Bank Stadium against Bethel, Thimsen was 1 for 3 in the first game with an RBI and threw out the first three batters of the game in a 5-1 loss. In a second game 10-5 loss, Thimsen was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Madee Kleinschmidt, RHP, 5-4, Sr, Edgerton, Wis.
Maddee Kleinschmidt went 1-1 in UW-Stout's first day of their spring break trip to the Orlando, Fla., area, going the distance in a 2-1 win over North Park University and going into the third inning in an 8-0 loss to Coe College. Against North Park, Kleinschmidt struck out five, allowed two walks, one run and scattered four hits. Kleinschmidt struck out two and allowed two runs and five hits in against Coe. On the day, Kleinschmidt struck out seven, walked four, gave up three runs and nine hits.

Mikala Bugge, Sr, Oakdale, Minn. (Tartan)
Mikala Bugge matched career highs on both the vault and the uneven bars, where she finished second on both events in a dual meet at UW-Whitewater, Feb. 26. Bugge scored a 9.775 on the vault and a 9.575 on the uneven bars
Gymnastics all-arounder of the week
Kiara Brown, So, Whitewood, SD - WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week
Kiara Brown was Stout's leader on the floor exercise, finishing third with a 9.575, Brown was the only competitor in the all-around and scored a 37.525, her second-best score of the season. Brown scored a 9.450 on the vault, a 9.450 on the uneven bars and a 9.050 on the balance beam. Stout was outscored 191.525-188.200 at UW-Whitewater.
Softball position player of the week
Korin Hall, OF, 5-4, Sr, Farmington, Minn.
Over four games last weekend at the Bethany Lutheran Kwik Trip Invitational, Korin Hall went 4 for 9 with five runs scored and three stolen bases in three attempts. She drove in a run with a triple against Gustavus Adolphus College Sunday.
Softball pitcher of the week
Mackensie Wolterstorff, RHP, 5-5, Jr, Mounds View, Minn. (Irondale)
Mackensie Wolterstorff recorded 16 strikeouts over 10 innings and three games worked last weekend. Wolterstorff went 1-1 on the weekend, striking out five and walking one, while pitching 5.1 innings in relief for the win. Her 25 strikeouts on the season already exceeds the number of strikeouts from all of last year.
Women's track runner of the week
Grace Maurer, Sr, Rogers, Minn. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
UW-Stout's Grace Maurer held off seven UW-La Crosse runners as she claimed the conference 400-meter title at the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship at UW-Platteville Feb. 25. Maurer earned the 400-meter title with a time of 58.96 seconds. Maurer was the top seed in the event. Runners from La Crosse claimed the next seven places in the event. Maurer is the second UW-Stout runner to win the indoor 400 crown. Laurissa Titterud won the 400 in 2015. Maurer climbed onto the championship podium twice on Saturday., Feb. 26. A day after winning the 400-meter title, Maurer was fifth in the 200-meter with a personal best time of 25.82. Maurer was also a member of the fifth place 4x400-meter relay team along with Kiley Lehman, Sydney Reisner and Katelyn Knapp with a time of 4:05.11.

Women's basketball athlete of the week
Amanda Giesen, F, 5-9, So, New Prague, Minn.
Amanda Giesen scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Blue Devils lost a regular season-ending game, 74-60, to UW-La Crosse, Feb. 16.
Men's basketball athlete of the week
Armani Tinsley, G, 5-11, 150, Sr, Detroit, Mich. (Western International) - WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week
Armani Tinsley scored 24 points, going 9 of 14 in a 76-66 win over seventh-ranked UW-La Crosse, Feb. 16, to close out the regular season. Tinsley scored 10 points in the first half as Stout led 34-33 at halftime, then scored 14 points in the second half. He hit 2 of 5 3-pointers and all four free throws, with those four free throws coming in the final 45 seconds of the game to allow Stout a more comfortable margin. Tinsley pulled down six rebounds and recorded two steals.

Mikala Bugge, Sr, Oakdale, Minn. (Tartan) - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week | WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week
Mikala Bugge won the vault and the floor exercise and set a personal best on the vault in a dual meet 187.150-182.350 win over Gustavus Adolphus College, Feb. 17. Bugge won the vault with a score of 9.775 - topping a career-best from a week earlier. Bugge won the floor exercise where she scored a 9.625.
Gymnastics all-arounder of the week
Kiara Brown, So, Whitewood, SD
Kiara Brown was first on the uneven bars (9.475) and captured the all-around competition with a personal-best score of 37.750 in a 187.150-182.350 win over Gustavus Adolphus, Feb. 17. Brown was sixth on the vault (9.425), fifth on the balance beam (9.400) and fourth on the floor exercise (9.450).
Softball position player of the week
Shannon Jones, SS, 5-6, Sr, Watertown, Wis. (Lakeside Lutheran)
In UW-Stout's opening weekend, Shannon Jones batted .500 as the Blue Devils went 3-1 on the weekend at the Bethany Lutheran Kwik Trip Invitational. Jones was 6 for 12 with four runs scored and an RBI. Jones was 2 for 3 in an 8-2 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan, 2 for 4 with two runs scored in a 5-4 win over Buena Vista, 1 for 2 with an RBI solo home run and two runs scored in a 14-2 win over Concordia-Moorhead and 1 for 3 in a 5-2 win over Northland College. On the week, Jones had three singles, a double, a triple and a home run. In the field, she was perfect in nine chances, with five put-outs, four assists and turned a double play by tagging the runner at second and throwing to first.

Anna Blanford, RHP, 5-8, Fr, Elmwood, Wis.
Anna Blanford saw her first collegiate action and picked up her first collegiate win, pitching five shutout innings in a 5-2 win over Northland College, Feb. 20, at the Bethany Lutheran Kwik Trip Invitational in Mankato, Minn. Blanford scattered three hits and did not allow a runner past second base. While Blanford recorded no strikeouts, she surrendered only one walk and allowed her defense to work. She had two innings where she faced only three batters. In her five innings, Blanford forced four fly outs, 10 groundouts and forced a 6-3 double play with a runner on second. Blanford also had three assists.

Grant Magnuson, Fr, River Falls, Wis.
Grant Magnuson won the 800m at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge, Feb. 19, with a time of 1:55.53. That time ranks him seventh in the conference and 46th in the nation. Magnuson's time moves him into the top five of the UW-Stout record book in the indoor 800m. All-American Jeff Wachter holds the top time in the 800 of 1:53.90 set in 1982. Magnuson's previous best time was 1:57.37.
Men's field athlete of the week
Kevin Ruechel, Sr, Pulaski, Wis. - WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week
Kevin Ruechel won the shot put at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge, Feb. 19, with a throw of 18.22m (59-9.50). Ruechel won the event by more than four feet, with the second-place competitor marking at 55-1.50. That distance ranks first in the conference and nation. He currently leads the nation by exactly one meter. Ruechel competed Friday, Feb. 18, at the University of Minnesota Snowshoe Open, placing second in the shot put (58-5.25) to an unattached athlete.

Hannah Miller won the long jump at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge, Feb. 19, with a jump of 5.64m (18'6"). That jump ranks fifth in the conference and 13th in the nation. The jump was a personal-best leap for Miller, two inches short of the school record.

Anna Mutch, G, 5-9, So, Apple Valley, Minn.
Anna Mutch scored 17 points in a 68-60 win over UW-Eau Claire and 12 points in a loss at UW-Whitewater. After Eau Claire jumped out to a nine point lead early in the second period, Mutch played a huge role in Stout coming back to take the lead. Trailing 18-9 one minute into the second, Mutch had two assists, scored six points and pulled down a rebound during a 15-4 Stout run for a 24-22 lead. Stout would fall behind again in the second half, but once the Blue Devils led 56-54 with 2:31 remaining, Mutch scored five points down the final stretch for the win. Mutch finished the week by averaging 14.5 points (29 total), 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, going 10 of 16 from the floor (.625) and 9 of 12 from the line (.750).

Armani Tinsley scored 22 points and dished off three assists in a 94-89 win over UW-Eau Claire Feb. 9 and had 14 points and four assists in an 81-67 loss to UW-Whitewater, Feb. 12. Tinsley finished the week averaging 17.5 points per game (35 total), hitting 12 of 21 shots from the floor (.571), 6 of 10 free throws (.600), and 5 of 8 from the line (.625). Tinsley averaged 3.5 assists (seven total) and had two steals in each game.

Logan Nelson, F, 6-1, 210, Sr, St. Michael, Minn. (St. Michael-Albertville)
In a two-game series with UW-Superior, Nelson tallied three goals and an assist, scoring two goals – including the game-winning-goal - and an assist in a 6-4 win Feb. 11, then added a power play goal in a 5-2 loss the next day.

Mikala Bugge, Sr, Oakdale, Minn. (Tartan)
Mikala Bugge won two events and set personal bests on both in a dual meet at Hamline University Feb. 11. Bugge won the vault with a score of 9.725 - topping a career-best from a week earlier - when she stuck a new vault valued at a 9.90 with a handspring front half. Bugge won the uneven bars when she scored a 9.525, which also included new updates to the routine.

Kiara Brown, So, Whitewood, SD
Competing in her first all-around competition of the season, Kiara Brown won the all-around event at Hamline University with a scored of 37.525. Brown won the floor exercise with a 9.650, was second on the vault and uneven bars to teammate Mikala Bugge with a 9.425 on the vault and a 9.500 and finished seventh on the balance beam.

Kevin Ruechel, Sr, Pulaski, Wis.
Kevin Ruechel finished second – but first overall among Division III competitors - at the UW-Stout Quad in the shot put with a season-best toss of 58-10.25 (17.94m). The mark is first in the NCAA Division III by more than two feet. Ruechel finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 53-11.

Hannah Zastrow, So, Spencer, Wis. - WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week
Hannah Zastrow broke her own school record in the 60-hurdles with a time of 8.78-seconds in the preliminaries, then ran an 8.83 in the finals to win the event at the UW-Stout Quad, Feb. 11. The preliminary time ranks Zastrow first in the WIAC and fourth in the NCAA Division III.

Mackenzie Huber was first in the shot put with a school record throw of 46-feet, 9-inches and was second in the weight throw with a mark of 53-11 at the UW-Stout Quad, Feb. 11. Her shot put mark is third in the WIAC and fourth in the NCAA.

Amanda Giesen, F, 5-11, So, New Prague, Minn.
Amanda Giesen has been a steady influence for UW-Stout throughout and certainly was during Stout's two wins last week, a 75-58 win at UW-Stevens Point, Feb. 2, and a 58-56 win over UW-Oshkosh, Feb. 5. Giesen scored 14 points against the Pointers and led the team with 18 points against Titans. Against Oshkosh, Giesen scored four points in each of the first three quarters, then finished the game with six points in the decisive fourth quarter. She was the same off the glass, getting a rebound in the first period, two in each of the second and third periods and four in the fourth quarter. Giesen was 9 for 16 from the field (.563) against the Titans and 5 for 8 (.625) against the Pointers. On the week, Giesen shot 14 of 24 from the field (.583), 2 of 6 from the 3-point range (.333) and 2 of 4 from the line, averaging 31.5 minutes. She had 16 total rebounds and three assists.

Cole Beckstead scored a goal and an assist in UW-Stout's 5-2 loss at UW-Stevens Point, Feb. 4. Beckstead assisted on the first goal and scored the second goal to give Stout a 2-0 lead.

Kiara Brown captured two first place finishes as UW-Stout defeated UW-Eau Claire, 186.300-179.674, Feb. 4. Brown won the uneven bars with a 9.600 and won the balance beam with a personal-best score of 9.650.

Isabela Krulich competed in her first collegiate all-around competition and captured the event with a 37.250. Krulich, the reigning WIAC gymnast of the week, was second on the floor exercise (9.575), fourth on the balance beam (9.250) and uneven bars (9.150) and fifth on the vault (9.375).

Jacob Bugella finished 4th in the weight throw at the University of Minnesota Gopher Classic with a throw of 18.23m (59-9.75). He was the top Division III competitor at the meet. Peyton Hart scored an assist in UW-Stout's 4-1 loss to UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 28, and scored Stout's goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Blugolds, Jan. 29. On the season, Hart has seven goals and five assists and the center holds a 168-119 advantage on faceoffs.

Isabela Krulich threatened the UW-Stout school floor exercise when she won the event in a triangular at Winona State along with UW-Whitewater. Krulich scored a 9.800, one-tenth of a point short of the school record, in winning the floor. Krulich finished second on the balance beam with a score of 9.600. Both marks were collegiate-best marks, along with scoring a personal-best on the uneven bars where she competed as exhibition.

Raegan Sorensen hit game-winning shots in back-to-back games in the final seconds to get Stout to 2-0 last week as Stout defeated UW-Stevens Point (63-61) and UW-Platteville (69-67). Sorensen scored 18 points, had nine rebounds and four steals in the win over Stevens Point and had 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the win over Platteville. For the week, Sorensen was 12-27 (.444) from the floor and 7-10 (.700) from the line with 17 rebounds, and eight steals.

Jon Ciriacks shot 7 of 8 from the floor and finished with 15 points in an 87-74 win over UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 19, then scored 13 points in a 74-72 loss to UW-Platteville, Jan. 22. Against the Pointers, Ciriacks scored 11 of his points in the second half as Stout came back from as much as an 11-point deficit to win by 13. Ciriacks collected his second double-double of the season by recording 10 rebounds along with his 15 points. Against the Pioneers, Ciriacks finished with six rebounds. For the week, Ciriacks totaled 28 points, 16 rebounds and one blocked shot.

Dylan Rallis scored three goals and an assist as UW-Stout swept Northland College, 5-3, 6-3, last week. In the first game, Jan. 20, Rallis offered an assist on Stout's third goal, then put the game away when he scored an empty net goal with 30 seconds left in the contest. In the second game, Rallis posted his first two goal game as a Blue Devil, scoring the first goal of the game midway through the first period, then gave Stout a 3-2 lead 1:29 into the third period.

In her first collegiate gymnastics meet, Effie Ferguson scored two second place finishes, scoring a 9.625 on the balance beam and a 9.525 on the floor exercise, helping to score the second-highest season-opening score of 187.075 in program history.

Raegan Sorensen scored 25 points – including nine fourth quarter free throws - to lead UW-Stout to a 72-68 win over UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 12 in the Blue Devils' only game of the week. Sorensen, who scored 15 second half points, was 6 of 10 from the floor and dropped in 13 of 15 free throws. Coming off the bench, Sorensen played 30 minutes, recording seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. For the season, Sorensen is averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds.

Armani Tinsley, G, 5-11, 150, Sr, Detroit, Mich. (Western International) - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Armani Tinsley scored 31 points in leading UW-Stout to a 95-90 double overtime win over UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 12. Trailing by 11 at halftime, the Blue Devils pulled to with 50-48 and the game became a shoot-out, with both teams trading baskets. Tinsley was instrumental in keeping the game close, hitting five of eight 3-pointers and creating opportunities for others with his passing as well as being a hawk on the board, pulling down as many missed shots as he could. Tinsley finished with nine rebounds and six assists to go with his career-high 31 points. In the second overtime, Tinsley came up with a steal and the ensuing layup to give Stout a two-point lead. Stout took the lead back on a 3-pointer by Lovell Williams with an assist by Tinsley, a lead that would hold up the rest of the way. In the second overtime, Tinsley, who played 44 minutes in the game, had four of Stout's nine points and recorded a steal and an assist. For the season, Tinsley is averaging 15.8 points per game and has scored in double figures the last eight games.

Matt Dahlseide scored his first two goals of the season, one in each game last weekend, and tallied an assist as Stout went 1-2 on the weekend. In a 6-3 win over Saint Mary's University, Jan. 14, Dahlseide scored his first goal of the season, scoring at 18:44 of the second period to put Stout up 5-2. In a 4-3 loss to St. Olaf, Jan. 15, Dahlseide assisted on a goal – his fifth assist of the season - at 5:37 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1. Dahlseide scored at 14:19 of the second period to pull Stout to within 4-2. Dahlseide put three shots on net in both contests.

Giesen held the Pioneers' Maiah Domask to 5 for 13 shooting from the floor. In a loss to UW-La Crosse, Jan. 5, Giesen scored 11 points, had three rebounds, one assist and three steals. Giesen is currently averaging 11.9 points per game.

He recorded a rebound, had four assists and two steals. Against the Pioneers, Tinsley shot 8 of 12 from the field, hitting two 3-pointers. He recorded a rebound, one assist and two steals. Tinsley is currently averaging 14.5 points per game.

Raphael Gosselin recorded a power play goal and an assist on the game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime win over Bethel University, Jan. 7. Gosselin gave Stout a 2-0 lead in the second period when he scored on the power play – his second power play goal of the season - taking an assist from Caleb Serre and goalie Tyler Masternak. Gosselin recorded the first assist on Alec Skar's game-winner 42 seconds into the overtime period. Gosselin currently has three goals and six assists on the season.

Freshman Raegan Sorensen threatened the school individual game scoring record when she pumped in 36 points – three short of tying the record - in an 89-74 win over Aurora University, Dec. 28. Sorensen was 11 of 14 from the field with a 3-pointer and 13 of 18 from the free throw line. She checked off her second double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. She contributed two assists, one blocked shot and one steal with no turnovers in 28 minutes off the bench. In two other games over the last two weeks, Sorensen scored 12 points in a 73-67 loss to Finlandia University, Dec. 21, and 13 points in a 69-53 loss to Gustavus Adolphus. Over three games last week, Sorensen averaged 20.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocked shots.

Over three games the last two weeks, Lovell Williams averaged 23.3 points per game, 3.3 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 2.7 steals and 0.7 blocked shots as Stout went 2-1 to run their overall record to 10-3. In a 108-75 rout over Finlandia University, Dec. 21, Williams scored 24 points with eight assists and three steals. In a 76-49 win over Ripon College, Dec. 29, Williams tossed in 22 points, had five assists and four steals. In a 97-88 loss to Calvin College, Williams scored 24 points with 11 assists, two blocked shots and a steal. Over the three games, Williams shot 53.8 percent (28-52) from the field, 37.5 percent (6-16) from 3-point range and 80 percent (8-10) from the free throw line. For the season, Williams is averaging 19.1 points (second in the WIAC), and 6.1 assists (first in the WIAC, 19
th in the NCAA DIII). His 79 total assists is third in the NCAA DIII.

Freshman Raegan Sorensen tallied her first collegiate double-double, scoring a game-best 25 points and added 10 rebounds in a 76-63 win at Bethany Lutheran College Dec. 18. Stout trailed at halftime and Sorensen, who scored five first half points, helped lead Stout's charge. With a basket off a steal, Sorensen tied the game at 43 late in the third period and scored 20 points in the second half, 14 in the fourth quarter as Stout ran out to the 13-point win. Sorensen was 10 of 17 from the field, 3 of 4 from 3-point range and 2 of 3 from the line. Sorensen completed her all-around game with five assists and three steals. For the season, Sorensen is averaging 8.8 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Brody Fox came within one point of the UW-Stout individual single game scoring record when he scored 42 points in a 125-119 win over Greenville University, Dec. 13, in Menomonie. Fox was 15 of 20 from the floor and 12 of 18 from the line. Fox finished the game with career-best marks of points (42), rebounds (13) and assists (5). Fox scored 17 points in the first half, 25 in the second half. Fox, who has come off the bench in all 10 games, saw his scoring average jump up more than three points. Fox was averaging 6.1 points per game but saw his average jump to 9.7 points after the Greenville game. The Blue Devils broke the team single-game scoring record with 125 points and Fox's two free throws made put Stout over the mark.

Amanda Giesen led a balanced attack as five UW-Stout players scored in double figures and the Blue Devils defeated the University of Dubuque, 80-70, Dec. 8 at Stoltz Sports Center. Giesen scored a collegiate-high 17 points to lead the way for the Blue Devils. Giesen went 6 of 9 from the field and hit her only 3-point attempt and all four free throws. She also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. For the season Giesen is averaging 11.6 points per game and 4.6 rebounds.

Lovell Williams stayed hot last week, leading Stout to two wins. Williams scored 18 points in a 97-57 home win over Lakeland University, Dec. 6, then upped his scoring to 24 points in an 89-80 win at the University of Dubuque, Dec. 8. Against the Muskies, Williams was 8 of 13 from the field, 2 of 5 from 3-point range, pulled down five rebounds, dished off six assists and had one steal that allowed Williams to break away and dunk the ball early in the game. Against Dubuque, Williams was 9 of 18 from the floor, shot a career-best 6 of 9 3-point shots, had a career-best nine rebounds, five assists and one steal. For the week, Williams averaged 21.0 points, was 17 of 31 from the floor and 8 of 14 from 3-point range, with 14 rebounds, 11 assists and two steals against only one turnover. For the season, Williams is averaging 18.2 points (third in conference), 3.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists (third in conference).

Riley Enderle has seen action in five games this year, but has scored goals in four of the games, including both games last weekend against UW-River Falls. Enderle scored Stout's fourth goal of the game to put the Blue Devils ahead, 4-3, Dec. 10, before River Falls came back to win in overtime, 5-4. The next night at River Falls, Enderle scored Stout's only goal of the game in 5-1 loss when he tied the game midway 1-1 at the mid-point of the second period. For the season, Enderle has four goals on six shots on net.

Anna Mutch narrowly missed a double-double in both games last week, scoring 16 points and pulling down nine rebounds in a 77-70 win over UW-River Falls, Dec. 1, then scoring nine points and taking 12 rebounds in a 58-53 loss to UW-Whitewater, Dec. 4. Against River Falls, Mutch was 4 for 7 from the field, and 8 of 10 from the line. Against the Warhawks Mutch was 3 for 10 from the floor 1 for 1 from 3-point range and 2 for 2 from the line. For the week, Mutch went 7 for 17 (.412) from the field, 1 for 1 from 3-point range and 10 for 12 (.833) from the line. For the season, Mutch has scored in double figures in six of seven games and has had eight or more rebounds in five games. Mutch is finding her way to the free throw line quite often this season, shooting 80.6 percent (29-36).

Anna Mutch led UW-Stout in both games against nationally ranked opponents last week, scoring 17 points in a 91-71 loss to 10
th ranked Wartburg College, Nov. 17, and a 66-49 loss to third-ranked Trine University, Nov. 20. Against Wartburg, Mutch connected on 6 of 10 field goals and 5 for 8 from the free throw line, as well as eight rebounds, two assists, one blocked shot and three steals. Against Trine, Mutch hit 3 of 10 from the floor and a perfect 5 of 5 from the line. Mutch also collected six rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot. For the week, Mutch tallied 28 points, shooting 9 of 20 in field goals and was 10 of 13 from the line. Mutch finished with 14 rebounds, five assists, one blocked shot and four steals.

For the second consecutive game, Lovell Williams scored a career-best 31 points as UW-Stout lost in a shootout with Buena Vista University, 102-84, Nov. 20. Coming off a 25-point effort a week earlier against Albion College, Williams scored 21 points in the first half and finished the game shooting 10 of 18 from the floor, 7 of 14 from 3-point range, and 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Williams tallied three assists and four steals. For the season, Williams is averaging 19.0 points per game and 4.5 assists.

Tyler Masternak, G, 6-0, 170, Fr, Oshawa, Ontario - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Making his second and third collegiate starts, Tyler Masternak recorded two wins last week in goal, a 3-1 win over Northland College, Nov. 18 and a 4-2 win over UW-Eau Claire, Nov. 20, to give Stout a 2-0-0 conference record. Masternak allowed one goal against Northland, that goal, a power play goal, came midway through the first period, then kept the Lumberjacks scoreless the rest of the way as Stout scored three goals in the final six minutes of the game. Masternak recorded 15 saves in the first period, 11 in the second and nine in the third to tally 35 saves. Against Eau Claire, Stout took a 2-0 lead, but tied the score with two goals in the second period. Masternak kept Eau Claire off the board the remainder of the game as Stout scored two goals in the third period for their second conference win of the season. Masternak recorded 24 saves, five in the first, nine in the second and 10 in the third. For the week, Masternak turned away 59 shots, allowed three goals and one power play goal, posting a .952 saves percentage. In three starts this season, Masternak is 2-1-0, with a 2.02 GAA, allowing six goals, and has a .935 saves percentage.

Matt Pomietlo had a career-day, rushing for 154 yards on 26 carries, the most carries by a Blue Devil this season in a single game. Pomietlo had a 12-yard touchdown run, the first touchdown of the day to put Stout up 7-0 in an eventual 35-28 loss at UW-Platteville, Nov. 13. Pomietlo averaged 5.9 yards per rush, had four runs of 12 yards or more and gained five first downs. Pomietlo finished the season with a team-best 606 yards, fifth best in the conference.

Hayden Miller closed out his collegiate career with six total tackles, three solo, 1.0 tackles for loss and a pass break-up in a 35-28 loss at UW-Platteville, Nov. 13. With the score tied at 21-21, Miller broke up a pass on 3

Williams finished with six assists and two blocked shots. Playing only five minutes in a 107-64 win over Northland College, Nov. 10, Williams scored six points, pulled down four rebounds, dished off four assists and had two steals.
Women's basketball athlete of the week
Anna Mutch, G, 5-8, So, Apple Valley, Minn.
Anna Mutch came out of the blocks rolling, scoring in double figures in each of UW-Stout's first three games of the season as Stout went 2-1. In a 76-44 season-opening win over UW-Superior, Mutch scored 15 points, had nine rebounds and four steals. In a 79-72 loss to Loras College, Mutch had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. In a 96-79 win over Bethel University, Mutch racked up her first double-double of the season, and her second career double-double, by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a blocked shot. Mutch was selected to the Loras College Tip-Off all-tournament team. Over those three games, Mutch scored 41 points (13.7 ppg), shooting 51.7 percent (15-29) from the field, 40.0 percent (2-5) from 3-point range and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the line. Mutch has grabbed 23 rebounds (7.7 rb/g), has 12 assists, one blocked shot and seven steals.
Cross Country athletes of the week
Spencer Schultz, Jr, Rosemount, Minn. / Emily Cunningham, Fr, Wisconsin Dells, Wis. - UW-Stout Athletes of the Week
Both qualified to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, Cunningham for the first time and Schultz for the third time. Cunningham set a career best time of 22:36.43 at the NCAA Division III North Regional, Nov. 13, as did Schultz. Cunningham placed 16
th to earn an individual bid and Schultz finished 10
th.

Sean Borgerding, QB, 6-2, 200, Jr, Spring Valley, Wis.
Sean Borgerding completed 28 of 49 passes for 358 yards and a career-best five TDs as UW-Stout attempted to come back against UW-River Falls. Trailing 36-7 late in the third quarter, Borgerding found Levy Hamer for a five-yard TD with 1:09 left in the third stanza to make it 36-14. In the fourth quarter, Borgerding was 12 for 19 for 147 yards and three TDs. River Falls matched Stout's three fourth quarter TDs to down Stout, 57-35.

Scott Gustafson blocked his third place kick of the season, blocking UW-River Falls' second PAT kick of the game. Defensively, Gustafson had one solo tackle and six assisted tackles.

Armani Tinsley scored UW-Stout's final two baskets of the game, including the game winning shot with eight seconds remaining to give the Blue Devils a 74-73 season-opening win at St. Olaf College, Nov. 5. Tinsley gave Stout a 72-71 lead with 42 seconds left, but a layup by the Ole's Jake Weber swung the lead back to the home team, 73-72. Tinsley hit a jumper from the right side of the lane with eight seconds left for the eventual win as the Stout defense did not allow the Oles to get off a shot. Tinsley led all scorers with 22 points, hitting 9 of 17 from the floor, 3 of 6 from 3-point range and 1 of 2 at the line. Tinsley dished off four assists, had two rebounds, one steal and did not turn the ball over.

Levi Hamer had his third 100-yard receiving day of the year and the 10
th of his career when he hauled in a career-best 11 receptions and finished with a season-best 161 receiving yards. Hamer scored a pair of touchdowns in a 43-36 loss to UW-Oshkosh Saturday, a 33-yard pass at 6:43 of the first period to get the scoring started and a 17-yard pass at 5:40 of the third quarter to break a 14-14 halftime tie. Hamer had catches of 10-, 33-, 12-, 3-, 8-, 27-, 17-, 0-, 25-, 14-, and 10-yards. Of his 11 catches, nine went for first downs.

Patrick Corcoran, WR, 5-6, 170, Fr, Melrose, Wis. (Melrose-Mindoro)
Patrick Corcoran returned a kickoff 52 yards to the UW-Oshkosh 45 to set up a drive that UW-Stout scored on to tie the score at 14-14 in the fourth quarter, then returned a kickoff in the fourth quarter to the Stout 40 and six plays later Stout scored to take a 36-35 lead in a game that saw eight lead changes. Corcoran finished with 84 return yards in an eventual 43-36 loss to the Titans Oct. 30.

Lexie Nelson recorded 34 assists and seven kills in a 3-1 win at UW-Superior, Oct. 26. In losses to UW-Whitewater and Concordia-Wisconsin, Nelson finished with 15 assists and two kills against Whitewater and 21 assists and two kills against Concordia. On the week over 10 sets, Nelson had 70 assists and 11 kills.

Rachel Younker, M, 5-6, Jr, Genoa, Ill (Genoa-Kingston) - UW-Stout Athlete of hte Week
Rachel Younker scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game and UW-Stout made the two-goal advantage stand up in a 2-1 win over UW-Stevens Point, Oct. 30. Younker scored in the sixth minute of the game, then added another unassisted goal in the 15
th minute of the game. Younker came into the game with one goal this season and two career goals. She finished the game with two shots, both on net and both goals.
Soccer defensive player of the week
Haley Vokaty, GK, 5-6, Fr, Hugo, Minn. (White Bear Lake)
Haley Vokaty made eight saves and allowed only one goal to protect UW-Stout's lead in a 2-1 win over UW-Stevens Point, Oct. 30. Vokaty had three first half saves and five second half saves, allowing the only goal in the 75
th minute. After allowing the goal, Vokaty made three saves in less than a two minute span and made another save five minutes later to preserve the win.
Hockey athlete of the week
Logan Nelson, F, 6-1, 210, Sr, St. Michael, Minn. (St. Michael-Albertville)
Logan Nelson scored two goals and had one assist in UW-Stout's opening games, a 3-2 overtime loss to Bethel University, Oct. 29, and a 5-4 loss to Concordia-Wisconsin, Oct. 30. Nelson scored the first goal of the game against Bethel, then scored the Blue Devils' third goal against Concordia. Also against the Falcons, he added an assist on the power play at 16:16 of the third period to Stout to within 5-4 in the game.

Football offensive player of the week
Arthur Cox, WR, 5-6, 150, So, Dixon, Ill.
Arthur Cox had a career day with six receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns, including a 39-yard TD to put UW-Stout on the board first to open the game at 9:30 of the first quarter against UW-La Crosse, Oct. 23, then hauled in Stout's longest reception of the season, an 85-yard catch and run to cut the score to 38-31 at 7:25 in the fourth quarter. In addition to the two TD catches, Cox had receptions of 4-, 25-, 10-, and 4-yards. The Eagles would go on to win 44-38. Four of Cox's receptions went for first downs. Cox finished the day with 253 all-purpose yards, tallying 86 yards on three kickoff returns totaling 86 yards.

Jessica Barr put down a career-high 18 kills in a 3-1 win over host Minnesota-Morris as UW-Stout closed out the day with two wins, Oct. 23, in Morris, Minn. The Blue Devils opened the day with a 3-0 win over Martin Luther College in the triangular. Barr, who also had a team-high 12 kills against Martin Luther College, surpassed her career-high of 15 kills by hitting at a respectable .279 clip. Barr finished the day with 30 kills. Barr had six kills in a 3-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire, Oct. 20.
Volleyball defensive player of the week
Terrah Moshier, L, 5-5, So, Oakdale, Minn. (Tartan)
Terrah Moshier had eight digs in a 3-0 win over Martin Luther and a career-high 24 digs in a 3-1 win over Minn-Morris, Oct. 23, in a triangular at Minn-Morris. Moshier had three assists and a service ace against Martin Luther and five assists against Morris. In a 3-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire, Oct. 20, Moshier had eight digs and a service ace.

Levy Hamer caught five passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-12 win over UW-Stevens Point, Oct. 16, and in the process moved to second on the UW-Stout all-time receiving list. Hamer scored the first TD of the game, a 19-yard pass from fellow wide receiver Tyler Seymour, then added another TD to open the second half, a 20-yard pass from quarterback Sean Borgerding. In addition to the two touchdown passes, Hamer had receptions of 7-, 33- and 11-yards. Four of the five passes went for first downs. For the season, Hamer has 30 receptions for 463 yards and six TDs. In his career, Hamer has 148 receptions for 2314 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Scott Gustafson recorded five tackles, two solo, had two tackles for loss, was in on one sack, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and blocked an extra point attempt in UW-Stout's 37-12 win over UW-Stevens Point, Oct. 16. Gustafson had an assisted sack in the first quarter on first and 10, recorded a tackle for loss on the next play, forced a fumble in the third quarter on first and 10 and recovered the ball, then blocked the extra point on Stevens Point's first TD. Gustafson now has four blocked kicks for his career and two this season.

Jack Meyer kicked a 48-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give UW-Stout a 10-0 halftime lead over UW-Stevens Point and the Blue Devils went on to a 37-12 win over the Pointers. Meyer attempted a 57-yard field goal later in the game and came up just short. Meyer had six kickoffs and averaged 61.8 yards, with two touchbacks.

Ellie Becker snared UW-Stout's lone win against UW-Whitewater Oct. 16 and secured two wins at No. 3 singles Oct. 17 to run her singles winning streak to five meets as Stout defeated UW-Oshkosh, 9-0, and Marian University, 9-0. Becker defeated the Warhawks' Zenia Barretto, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 Saturday. Becker continued her strong play Sunday taking a 6-3, 6-2, win over the Titans' Jenna Nolde and a 6-0, 6-0 win over Marian's Julia Loomans. With the two wins, Becker extended her winning streak to five matches, stretching back to a tie-breaker win against Wisconsin Lutheran, Oct. 3. Becker combined with Mariah Kent to win both matches Sunday at No. 2 doubles, 8-3 against Oshkosh and 8-2 against Marian. On the season, Becker is 7-3 in singles and is 5-3 in doubles.

UW-Stout's Lauren Couves and Annie Sandry won two matches at No. 1 doubles Oct. 17, downing Michelle Spicer and Jenna Nolde of UW-Oshkosh, 8-4, in a conference matchin the morning, then defeated Marian University's Aeryn Olson and Julia Loomans 8-1 in the afternoon. A day earlier, the duo were defeated by UW-Whitewater's Kelly Ha and Olivia Kraft, 8-2.

Parker Fossum, WR, 6-3, 205, Jr, Chatfield, Minn. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Parker Fossum had five receptions for 125 yards, including a career-long 79-yard touchdown catch to put UW-Stout up 28-10 in the second quarter in a 38-34 win over UW-Eau Claire, Oct. 9. In addition to the 79-yard catch, Fossum had receptions of 7-, 11-, 20- and 8-yards. Four of the five receptions went for first downs and the 8- and the 79-yard catch were on back-to-back plays. Fossum currently has 22 catches on the season for 317 yards and two TDs with an average of 14.4 yards per catch.

Jack Meyer kicked a 51-yard field goal – the second longest of his collegiate career - to tie the game at 31-31 late in the third quarter in an eventual 38-34 win over UW-Eau Claire, Oct. 9 at Carson Park. Meyer also had two punts for an average of 46.0 yards per punt, with a long of 51. Meyer's seven kickoffs averaged 55.7 yards, with two touchbacks.

Sidney Hoverman led UW-Stout in kills in all three matches last week and was key in the Blue Devils winning two matches at St. Norbert College, Oct. 8. Hoverman had 15 kills in hitting .464 in a 3-0 win over Rockford University and added four aces and one block. In a 3-2 win over St. Norbert later that evening, Hoverman had 18 kills along with four blocks and a career-high 32 digs, the most by a Stout player this season. Hoverman had 14 digs against Rockford. In a conference loss to UW-River Falls, Oct. 6, Hoverman led Stout with nine kills. For the week, averaged 3.82 kills per set, with 4.82 digs and 0.55 blocks. On the season, Hoverman averages 3.64 kills per set.
Volleyball defensive player of the week
Staci Meyer, L/DS, 5-3, Jr, Rice, Minn. (Sauk Rapids-Rice)
Playing as the libero, Staci Meyer had 17 digs in a 3-0 win over Rockford University, Oct. 8, then recorded 26 digs in a 3-2 win over St. Norbert College later that night. Playing in 11 sets, including a 3-0 conference loss to UW-River Falls, Oct. 6, Meyer averaged 4.91 digs per set. Over 62 sets played this season, Meyer is averaging 3.05 digs per set.

Abbey Filipiak, So, Elk River, Minn. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Abbey Filipiak became UW-Stout's second WIAC women's golf individual champion in three years when she won the three-day 2021 event Oct. 10 at Reedsburg Country Club. Filipiak won the event by four strokes and finished the event with a birdie. She posted scores of 76-76-78 - 230. Filipiak was in second after the first day, moved into the lead after the second day and held the lead at the end of the event.

Marissa Steele scored the game-winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in overtime in a 2-1 conference-opening win over UW-Platteville, Oct. 1. Steele ran onto a ball played by Rachel Younker, moved up to the left side of the box, dribbled towards the middle of the top of the box, then drilled the ball into the opposite corner for the winner with 1:22 left in overtime. Steele had four shots on goal in the game.
Soccer defensive player of the week
Mekenzie Bisel, D, 5-4, Sr, Northfield, Minn.
Mekenzie Bisel came back from an early injury that forced her off the field for several minutes early in the game to help hold UW-Platteville to one goal in UW-Stout's 2-1 overtime win Oct. 1. Bisel cleared several of the Pioneers' passes throughout the game.
Tennis singles player of the week
Ellie Becker, Fr, St. James, Minn.
Ellie Becker scored UW-Stout's lone win in a non-conference contest at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Oct. 3. Becker, playing at No. 2 singles, took the three-set win, losing the first set, 6-2, but coming back to win the match with a 6-4 second set win and a 10-5 tie-breaker. Becker also earned a win at No. 1 doubles. Teaming with Annie Sandry and leading 4-1, one of the Warriors suffered an injury and the meet was conceded to Sandry and Becker.

Remy Soulak recorded an assist in each of UW-Stout's two games this weekend, a 2-1 loss at Viterbo University, Sept. 25, and a 2-1 win over St. Mary's University, Sept. 26 in Menomonie. In Stout's win over St. Mary's, Soulak had the first contact on an indirect kick that Rachel Younker scored on for the first goal of the game.
Soccer defensive player of the week
Haley Vokaty, GK, 5-6, Fr, Hugo, Minn. (White Bear Lake)
In UW-Stout's 2-1 win over St. Mary's University, Haley Vokaty recorded seven saves, but the freshman also controlled any Cardinal crosses and limited chances. Vokaty recorded two saves in a 2-1 loss at Viterbo University, Sept. 25.
Women's golf athlete of the week
Abbey Filipiak, So, Elk River, Minn. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Abbey Filipiak finished second at the St. Kate Invitational Sept. 25-26. Filipiak moved up one spot to finish second in the meet, scoring a 75 on the first day and 74 on the second day for a 149, three strokes off the first-place score.

Rayshawn Graham rushed for three touchdowns and 197 yards on 20 carries as UW-Stout defeated UW-Stevens Point, 45-14, Sept. 18 in Stevens Point. Graham's career rushing day included TD runs of 2-, 6-, and 73-yards. Graham averaged 9.8 yards per carry, recorded no negative yardage and picked up seven first downs on the day. Graham is currently averaging 121.7 yards per game and 6.2 yards per carry. In the opening three games, he has rushed for 111 yards, 98 yards and 197 yards.
Football defensive player of the week
Gervase Thompson, LB, 6-1, 210, Fr, Brule, Wis. (Northwestern)
Gervase Thompson recorded his first collegiate interception and finished a 45-14 win over UW-Stevens Point with five tackles, including a sack. With Stout holding onto a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and one play after making a stop for no-gain on first down, Thompson stepped in front of a Max Herro pass on the Pointers 31 and returned it 13 yards to the 18. Stout would take a 14-0 lead on the ensuing drive. Thompson recorded his first collegiate sack for eight yards, a solo effort, on 3rd-and-7 early in the second quarter.

Scott Gustafson, DL, 6-1, 230, Jr, Victoria, Minn. (Chanhassen)
With a known nose for the ball, Scott Gustafson recorded his third career blocked kick when he blocked UW-Stevens Point's first extra point attempt in a 45-14 Stout win Sept. 18. Gustafson blocked the kick out of bounds. Defensively, Gustafson had two solo tackles on the defensive line, one on third down.

Sidney Hoverman, OH, 6-0, So, St. Croix Falls, Minn.
Sidney Hoverman averaged 4.18 kills per set over 11 sets last week as Stout opened the conference schedule with a 3-1 loss to UW-La Crosse, followed by a 3-0 loss to Bethel University and a 3-1 win over UW-Superior. Hoverman had 15 kills against La Crosse, 12 against Bethel and 19 – two short of her career-best – against Superior. She also recorded one solo block and four block assists. Hoverman is averaging 3.65 kill/set this season.

Liv Winkler scored two goals last week as Stout went 2-1 on the week. Winkler scored Stout's second goal of the game in a 2-0 win over UW-Superior, Sept. 15, and scored the team's second goal, in the 51
st minute breaking a 1-1 tie, in a 4-2 win at Minn-Morris, Sept. 19. Winkler has four goals and an assist on the season.
Women's golf athlete of the week
Abbey Filipiak, So, Elk River, Minn.
Abbey Filipiak moved up three spots by taking off a stroke from her first round to finish in a tie for fifth place at the Division III Midwest Classic Sunday. Filipiak opened the first day of the event at Emerald Greens with a 77 and dropped that to a 76 to finish with a 153 on warm, breezy Sunday afternoon. Filipak played 14 holes of even golf on the final round. On the first day, she recorded two birdies, which evened up a double bogey, playing 10 other holes even.

Lauren Couves scored UW-Stout's lone win in a home conference contest against UW-Stevens Point, downing Barbara Covek, 6-4, 6-3, Sept. 15.

Football offensive player of the week
Parker Fossum, WR, 6-3, 205, Jr, Chatfield, Minn.
Parker Fossum had a career-day in UW-Stout's 34-14 non-conference, home-opening win over St. Norbert College, Sept. 11. Fossum hauled in seven catches for 96 yards, which included a 44-yard TD reception on the first play of the fourth quarter to put the game well out of reach. Fossum had catches of 7-, 10-, 15-, 8-, 7-, 5- and 44-yards.
Football defensive player of the week
Cannon Griner, DB, 6-1, 200, So, Mesa, Ariz (Red Mountain)
With UW-Stout leading 13-6 over St. Norbert College coming out of the halftime locker room, Cannon Griner turned the tide for the Blue Devils, intercepting the pass at the St. Norbert 43 and returning the ball 35 yards to St. Norbert 8 on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. Two plays later, Stout scored and the Blue Devils would go on to add two more TDs in the third quarter and another on the first play of the fourth quarter for a 34-14 win, Sept. 11. The interception was Griner's second interception of the season. Griner recorded two solo tackles and four assists against St. Norbert.

Freshman Jack Meyer was perfect in UW-Stout's 34-14 win over St. Norbert College, Sept. 11, making all four extra point attempts and both field goal attempts, which included a 52-yard field goal as time ran out in the first half to give Stout a 13-6 halftime lead. Earlier midway through the second quarter, Meyer booted a 46-yard field goal to give Stout a 10-6 lead. In the punting game, Meyer averaged 41.0 yards on two punts, and neither punt was returned, booming one through the end zone for a touchback and placing one at the St. Norbert 1-yard line. Meyer recorded three touchbacks on six kickoffs and averaged 61.5 yards.

Lexie Nelson was named to the all-tournament team at the UW-Oshkosh Polito's Invitational as Stout went 3-1 at the tournament and 3-2 overall in five matches last week. The Blue Devil setter was among the team's leading hitters last week, finishing with 44 total kills (2.09 k/set) to go with 148 total assists (7.04 a/set).

UW-Stout went 2-0-1 last week and Marissa Steele scored two goals, both of them game-winners, as Stout defeated St. Scholastica 3-0, Sept. 11 and Cornell College, 1-0, Sept. 12. Steele scored in the 36
th minute against St. Scholastica, dribbling into the box with a defender shadowing her and scored. Against Cornell, Steele scored Stout's only goal in the 69
th minute, burying a shot from the top of the box. Earlier in the week, Stout tied Carleton College, 1-1, Sept. 7, After five games, Stout is 4-0-1, with all four wins shutouts.

Hailey Kane scored Stout's goal in a 1-1 tie with Carleton College, Sept.7, and has defensively played a key role in Stout's 4-0-1 record. The Blue Devils have posted four shutouts on the season, including wins over St. Scholastica, 3-0, Sept. 11, and Cornell College, 1-0, Sept. 12. Stout's defense allowed two shots on goal against Carleton, one against St. Scholastica and three against Cornell College.

Annie Sandry lost a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 No. 2 singles match against UW-La Crosse's Tasha Bailey in Stout's 9-0 conference-opening home loss to the Eagles, Sept. 12.

Sisters Mariah Kent and Anna Kent teamed at No. 2 doubles, played well in an 8-4 loss to UW-La Crosse's Tasha Bailey/Kaitlyn Kalinka.
Men's cross country athlete of the week
Spencer Schultz, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.
Spencer Schultz paced the field by nearly a minute as UW-Stout scored a perfect score of 15 in winning the UW-River Falls Invitational, Sept. 10. Schultz was at the front as Stout took the top 11 spots in the race. Schultz won the race in a time of 25-minutes, 41.95-seconds, just under one minute ahead of the second place finish.

Sean Borgerding, QB, 6-2, 200, Jr, Spring Valley, Wis.
Sean Borgerding threw four touchdowns in the first half in a 42-14 win over NAIA opponent Presentation College, Sept. 4. Borgerding had TD passes of 63-yards (on Stout's first drive of the game), 83-yards (on Stout's second drive of the game), 16- and 52-yards (with 22 seconds left in the half). Borgerding completed 18 of 23 passes for 323 yards, the fifth time he has throw for 300-plus yards in his career. It's also the fourth time in his career he has thrown for four or more TDs in a single game.

Cannon Griner, DB, 6-1, 200, So, Mesa, Ariz (Red Mountain)
In UW-Stout's 42-14 win over Presentation College, Sept. 4, Cannon Griner stepped in front of a Presentation pass at the Stout 32-yard line and returned it five yards to the 37 with 57 seconds remaining in the first half. Three plays later, Stout scored to make it 36-0 at halftime. Griner finished with a solo tackle, two assisted tackles and one pass break up.

Ethan Olson recorded two unassisted sacks for 18 yards in a 42-14 win over Presentation College, Sept.4. On the day, Olson had three solo tackles and one assisted tackle.

Jack Meyer booted a 40-yard field goal in his first collegiate game and made four extra points in Stout's 42-14 win over Presentation College. He averaged 35.4 yards on five punts, including a long of 45 yards.

Volleyball defensive player of the week
Terrah Moshier, L, 5-5, So, Oakdale, Minn. (Tartan)
Terrah Moshier has settled into her role as the Blue Devils' libero, increasing her number of digs throughout each of the Blue Devils' games as Stout has posted a 4-1 overall record to start the season. Moshier had seven digs in each of the first two matches, then eased up to eight digs in the third match and has hit double digits in the last two matches, recording 13 digs in a 3-0 win over Dubuque and 22 in a 3-1 win over Central College. Moshier has collected 57 total digs, 3.35 per set.

Freshman Liv Winkler has scored in each of UW-Stout's two games this season, getting the game-winner with eight minutes left in the game in a 1-0 season-opening win over Concordia-Moorhead, then added her second goal of the season in the 58
th minute to give Stout their final goal in a 3-0 win at Benedictine University, Sept. 5.

Hailey Kane played a key role in UW-Stout's two shutout wins to open the season. The Blue Devil defender helped Stout to 1-0 season-opening win over Concordia-Moorhead, Sept. 1, then defended a 3-0 win at Benedictine University, Sept. 5. Kane also scored her first collegiate point, lending an assist on Stout's first goal against Benedictine. Kane does a solid job defending her opponents and getting forward on offense.
Women's golf athlete of the week
Sydney Grimm, Fr, Waunakee, Wis.
Making her collegiate debut at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic, Sydney Grimm had a top five finish, placing fifth with an 84-83 – 167. Grimm was sixth after the first day, leading all Stout golfers, and moved up one spot on the final day.
Tennis singles player of the week
Lauren Couves, Jr, Ames, Iowa
Lauren Couves had a solid day Sept. 4, winning all four matches she played in. Couves won at No. 1 singles over the University of Dubuque's Alyssa Stevenson, 6-2, 6-0, then shutout Monmouth College's Emily McLaughlin, 6-0, 6-0, also at No. 1 singles. Couves played No. 1 doubles with two different partners, combining with Mariah Kent for an 8-1 win over Dubuque and played with Annie Sandry for an 8-0 win over Monmouth.

Mariah Kent and Lauren Couves played with different partners in their two matches Saturday against the University of Dubuque and Monmouth College and each came away with wins in both matches. Couves and Kent paired with each for an 8-3 No. 1 doubles win over Dubuque. Couves played with Annie Sandry for an 8-1 win over Monmouth. Kent played No. 2 doubles with her sister, Anna Kent, and took an 8-0 win over Monmouth
