Baseball pitcher of the week
Jace Baumann, RHP, 5-10, 180, RHP, Mosinee, Wis. - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Jace Baumann picked up a save and a win last week, pitching 2.1 innings in Stout's 2-0 win over Oshkosh in the first round of the WIAC Baseball Championship, coming in with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and recorded a strikeout for the third out. Baumann stayed in to earn the save, but also endured a 29-minute rain delay in the eighth inning. Baumann turned around two days later to start and pitch all seven innings in Stout's 15-0, 7-inning win over WIAC top-seeded UW-Stevens Point in the next round of the tourament. In all last week, Baumann pitched 9.1 innings over the two games, scattered five hits (one against Oshkosh, four against Stevens Point), allowed no runs, struck out four and walked one. Baumann held his opponents to a .156 batting average. Stout lost the next two games in the double-elimination tournament to UW-Whitewater (10-0, 7-inn) and Stevens Point (8-3) to conclude the season.

Hannah Zastrow, Fr, Spencer, Wis.
Hannah Zastrow has been raising the bar of the high jump and the lowering the school record time in the 100-hurdles. The freshman set a personal best at the NCAA Qualifier at UW-La Crosse Wednesday in the high jump and the following day broke her own school record in the 100-hurdles for the third week in a row. Zastrow cleared 5-foot, 7-inches in the high jump Wednesday and then Thursday edged out her own hurdles record with a time of 14.28 seconds, edging her previous best of 14.34.

Baseball position player of the week
Riley Boushack, OF, 6-2, 180, Fr, Marshfield, Wis. - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Over four games last week, Riley Boushack went 11 of 19 (.579), hit a double and a triple, drove in six runs and scored five runs. Boushack recorded a slugging percentage of .737 and recorded a walk and was hit by a pitch to post an on-base percentage of .619. Boushack drove in the first run of the game in the final meeting with Finlandia, then, with Stout trailing 4-1, Boushack hit a two-run single in the fourth to pull Stout to within 4-3, and moments later came home to tie the game. Boushack drove in another run in the sixth inning to make the score 8-4 and complete the first 4-RBI game of his career. In the outfield, Boushack was perfect in nine attempts, including hitting the cutoff in throwing a runner out at home.

James Palmer, LHP, 6-3, 215, Sr, Boyceville, Wis.
James Palmer pitched six scoreless innings, struck out 11, walked three and gave up two hits in a 9-0 win over Finlandia University, May 15. Palmer extended his scoreless streak to 15 innings over his past two outings.
Men's track athlete of the week
Noah Zastrow, Sr, Spencer, Wis.
Noah Zastrow broke his own school pole vault record and just narrowly missed another target at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open Friday. Zastrow cleared 17-feet, 7-inches to break his own record 17-5.50, then raised the bar to 18-1, but went out in three tries, barely scraping the bar with his chest on the way down in his best attempt at the mark. Zastrow holds the top mark nationally by nearly a foot.

Hannah Zastrow, Fr, Spencer, Wis.
Hannah Zastrow improved on her qualifying time and broke her own school record in the 100-hurdles with a first-place finish in the event at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open Friday. Zastrow ran a time of 14.54 seconds in the preliminary of the event, then broke her own school record by knocking off two-tenths of a second with a time of 14.34. Her previous best time/school record was a 14.45 set last week at the conference championship. That time had her ranked in a tie for12th. The national rankings weren't updated as of this writing, but Zastrow could go to as high as 10th. Zastrow also competed in the high jump, winning the event with a leap of 5-feet, 6.50-inches, matching a season-high.

Softball position player of the week
Meghan Kelly, 1B, 5-8,Sr, Lockport, Ill. (Lockport Township)
Meghan Kelly hit a two-out, three-run home run in the first inning and drove in five total runs in a 6-2 win over UW-River Falls, May 4. Kelly drove in a single run in each of the third and fifth innings. Kelly drove in two runs in a first game loss to UW-Stevens Point, May 7, recording a sacrifice fly and a one-run double. On the week, Kelly batted .500 (5-10), with seven RBI and a double and a home run, posting a .900 slugging percentage. At first base over four games, Kelly was perfect in 25 chances.
Baseball position player of the week
Charlie Szykowny, SS, 6-2, 200, Jr, Palos Heights, Ill. (Alan B. Shepard)
Over six games last week where Stout went 4-0 in conference play and 5-1 on the week, Charlie Szykowny hit .500 (14-28), scoring 10 runs and driving in seven runs. Szykowny wrapped out nine doubles on the week, a move that gave him the school single season record for doubles with 19, recording three in the first game, May 7, and had two doubles in each of three other games. Szykowny had one stolen base in one attempt, but that stolen base set up the game winning run. With the score tied 8-8 with UW-Platteville, May 8, Szykowny hit a one-out double, stole third, then ended the game when he came home on a wild pitch. Szykowny had at least two hits in each of the six games last week and has this year reached base in 34 consecutive games and extended his on-base streak to 41 games, stretching back to the 2019 season, his first with the Blue Devils. Szykowny was perfect in the field this week in 33 chances and turned three double plays. On the season, Szykowny is batting .394 (54-137), with 45 runs scored and 24 RBI.

James Palmer, LHP, 6-3, 215, Sr, Boyceville, Wis. - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
James Palmer pitched the first no-hitter for UW-Stout since 2009 and the first complete game no-hitter since 1997 when the lefty threw a nine-strikeout, nine inning 8-0 win over UW-Platteville, May 4. Palmer allowed five walks, but consistently worked his way out of trouble throughout the game. He faced three batters in the first, second, fourth, sixth and eighth innings, allowing only one runner as far as second base. Palmer walked the leadoff hitter in the ninth, struck out the next batter, then forced two consecutive groundouts to shortstop to end the game. For the season, Palmer is 5-3 overall, with an ERA of 2.25. He has 57 strikeouts in 56.0 innings pitched and is allowing an opponent's batting average of .175.

Softball position player of the week
Jessica Christiansen, OF, 5-2, Jr, Somonauk, Ill.
Jessica Christiansen collected at least one hit in the six games last week, going 7 for 18 (.389) from the plate with three runs scored. In Stout's 4-3 win over UW-La Crosse, Christiansen opened Stout half of the first with an infield single, then scored on Kaylee Peterson's single. Of Christiansen's seven hits throughout the six games, five of them were infield hits, with three bunt singles. Christiansen was perfect playing center field, with 18 putouts and recorded an outfield assist, gunning down a runner at the plate after catching a fly ball to complete the double play.
Softball pitcher of the week
Sommer Kunstmann, RHP, 5-10, Sr, Wales, Wis. (Kettle Moraine)
Sommer Kunstmann made three appearances last week, logging 11.1 innings pitched and earned her first save since her freshman year in a 4-3 win over UW-La Crosse, April 28. Kunstmann allowed one hit, one run and struck out one. Kunstmann started the Blue Devils' second game with UW-Oshkosh, April 30, and pitched six scoreless innings before giving up a run in the seventh inning. Kunstmann was relieved at the beginning of the eighth inning, but returned to the circle after a run scored and with the bases loaded, getting out of the jam with no more damage. Kunstmann pitched 8.0 innings, the longest outing in her four-year career, and gave up three hits, one run, two strikeouts and one walk, but did not figure into the decision. For the week, Kunstmann scattered six hits, three runs, two earned, and recorded three strikeouts.

Brent Heilman, Sr, West Salem, Wis.
Brent Heilman won the 200m at the Luther College Norse Invite May 1 with a time of 21.37 seconds. That time leads the conference and ranks fourth in the NCAA.
Men's field athlete of the week
Jacob Bugella, Jr, Rice Lake, Wis.
Jacob Bugella won the hammer throw at the Luther College Norse Invite May 1 with a throw of 60.98m (200-feet, 1-inch). That throw ranks him first in the conference and third in the NCAA Division III, only eight inches from the national leader.
Women's field athlete of the week
Demi Ploor, Sr, Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (Sevastopol)
Demi Ploor won the hammer throw and finished second in the javelin at the Luther College Norse Invite May 1. Her throws of 48.44m (158-feet, 11-inches) in the hammer was a 25-foot personal-best and 33.33m (109-4) in the javelin. Both rank ninth in the WIAC.
Women's golf player of the week
Abbey Filipiak, Fr, Elk River, Minn.
Abbey Filipiak finished fourth at the 2021 WIAC Women's Golf Championship this weekend, scoring a 78 on day one, an 85 on a windy day two, and a collegiate-low 74 on day three to finish with a 237. Filipiak recorded three birdies in her final round, including one on the 18th and final hole of the tournament. On the back nine of the final day, Filipiak played even par, recording a single bogey, but evened that out by closing out with a birdie. For the three-day meet, Filipiak finished with five birdies, second in the tournament. Filipiak came into the final day in 10th, but closed the gap to earn a medal.

Ashley Jacobson, DP, 5-6, Fr, Roseville, Minn. - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Ashley Jacobson got UW-Stout started in a 10-run inning sixth inning against UW-Eau Claire, opening the inning with a single, scoring on a home run by Kate Funk, then later in the same inning delivering a two-run double as Stout defeated Eau Claire 11-8, April 22 in Eau Claire. For the game, Jacobson was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBI. For the week, Jacobson was 6 for 12 from the plate with three runs scored, two RBI and three doubles for a slugging percentage of .750 and an on-base percentage of .538.

Kasey Bass, 1B, 6-3, 245, Sr, Sun Prairie, Wis.
Over six games last week, Kasey Bass batted .429 (9-21) with a double, two home runs, seven runs scored and seven RBI. Bass posted a slugging percentage of .762 and drew five walks to finish the week with an on-base percentage of .538. Bass twice had three RBI games in the series with La Crosse. On the season, Bass is hitting .377 (29-77) with seven doubles, five home runs and a team-best 27 RBI. In the field, Bass has a fielding percentage of .986.

Cody Lohrenz won the 400m at the Gustavus Drake Alternative April 24 with a time of 48.83 seconds. He ranks fifth in the WIAC. Lohrenz was also a member of the 4x400-relay team that took first.
Women's track athlete of the week
Kiley Lehman, So, Barron, Wis.
Kiley Lehman won the 400m at the Gustavus Drake Alternative April 24 with a time of 59.75. She ranks ninth in the WIAC.
Women's field athlete of the week
Raelin Sorensen, Sr, Balsam Lake, Wis. (Unity)
Raelin Sorensen won the high jump at the Gustavus Drake Alternative April 24 with a jump of 1.57m (5'1.75"). She ranks 11th in the conference.
Men's golf player of the week
Austin Gaby, So, Verona, Wis.
Austin Gaby led UW-Stout at the St. John's Spring Invitational, scoring a 77 on the first day, then cut four strokes to score a 73, finishing with a two-day score of 150 to tie for 16th.

Softball position player of the week
Katelyn Belleau, 2B, 5-9, Fr, Portage, Wis.
Katelyn Belleau hit a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Stout a 4-3 lead over UW-Whitewater April 17. Playing in three games last week, Belleau was 3 for 6 with a double and a triple for a slugging percentage of 1.000 and drew two walks for an on-base percentage of .625. She finished the week with OPS of 1.625. Belleau also had two stolen bases in two attempts.
Baseball position player of the week
Kasey Bass, 1B, 6-3, 245, Sr, Sun Prairie, Wis.
Over four games last week, Kasey Bass batted .400 (6-15) with a double, two home runs and two runs scored for a slugging percentage of .867. In the final game of a four-game series with UW-Oshkosh, Bass hit two home runs, a two-run blast and a three-run shot to finish the game with five RBI. The Blue Devil senior first baseman was perfect in 20 chances in the field. On the season, Bass is hitting .357 (20-56) with six doubles, three home runs and a team-best 20 RBI. In the field, Bass has committed only one error in 100 chances (.990).

James Palmer, LHP, 6-3, 215, Sr, Boyceville, Wis.
James Palmer had another solid performance, extending his record to 4-1 overall. Palmer pitched a complete game shutout as UW-Stout defeated UW-Oshkosh, 5-0, in the first game of a WIAC contest April 14 at Tiedemann Field. The complete game was the first of Palmer's collegiate career as the Boyceville senior allowed four hits and retired 15 straight batters from the last out of the fourth inning to the second out of the ninth inning. Palmer fanned seven batters and did not allow a runner past first base. Palmer has an ERA of 1.85 for the season with a team-best 41 strikeouts over 34.0 innings.
Tennis singles player of the week

Lauren Couves won both conference No. 1 singles matches last week, winning both matches in straight sets. Couves defeated Michelle Spicer of UW-Oshkosh, 6-4, 6-2, April 14, then played to a 6-1, 6-1, win over Barbra Covek of UW-Stevens Point, April 17. Couves was 1-1 on the week in No. 1 doubles, winning 8-5 over UW-Oshkosh, but falling 8-3 to UW-Stevens Point.
UW-Stout Athletes of the Week (April 12, 2021)
Baseball position player of the week
Hunter Merrill, OF, 5-11, 225, Sr, Ripon, Wis.
Over four games last week, Hunter Merrill hit four home runs and finished the week with 10 RBI. He hit .438 (7 of 16) with three doubles and the four home runs for a slugging percentage of 1.375. Drawing two walks and three times hit by pitch, Merrill had an on-base percentage of .571 and an OPS of 1.946. In addition, scored seven runs as Stout defeated UW-Eau Claire 11-3, 22-3, 10-3 and 5-4. Merrill hit a home run in each of the four games, his first home runs of the season, and had two-run shots in three of the four games.

James Palmer had his shortest outing of the season, but recorded a career-best 11 strikeouts, going five innings in a 22-3 win over UW-Eau Claire, April 9. Palmer gave up one hit and one walk, facing only 17 batters. Palmer struck out at least two batters in every inning and struck out the side in the second inning. On the season, Palmer is 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA in 25.0 innings pitched. Palmer's 34 strikeouts is second in the WIAC.

Brent Heilman won 100m dash at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invite april 10 with a time of 10.83 seconds which is seventh in the WIAC and 22nd in the nation. He was also a part of the first place 4x100m relay at the Falcon Invite.

Noah Zastrow, Sr, Spencer, Wis. - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week | WIAC/Kwik Trip Field Athlete of the Week
Noah Zastrow won the pole vault at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invite April 10 with a vault of 5.32m (17-5.5). That was a new school record and currently leads the WIAC and the nation by over a foot.
Women's field athlete of the week
Demi Ploor, Sr, Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (Sevastopol)
Demi Ploor won the javelin at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invite April 10 with a throw of 32.30m (106-0), and was third in the shot put with a throw of 13.08m (42-11). She ranks fourth in the conference in the javelin and sixth in the shot put. Her shot put also ranks 16th in the nation.

Annie Sandry took a straight set 6-4, 6-3, win at No. 2 singles over UW-River Falls' Abbie Reed April 11. Sandry also teamed with Lauren Couves to record a win at No. 1 singles.

Lauren Couves and Annie Sandry won their doubles match in a dual match with UW-River Falls, capturing an 8-3 No. 1 doubles win over Kailey Courteau and Abbie Reed April 11. Both Couves and Sandry won their respective singles matches.
Women's golf player of the week
Abbey Filipiak, Fr, Elk River, Minn. - WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week
Abbey Filipiak won a quadrangular with UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls and UW-Superior, hitting a 77-83 to lead the event.
Men's golf player of the week
Austin Gaby, So, Verona, Wis.
Austin Gaby blew away his previous collegiate-best as he placed fifth at the 17-team Augie Invite Friday at Highland Springs Golf Course. Gaby scored a 70 and tied with three other golfers. The Blue Devil sophomore came out firing, scoring a 33 on the front nine and finished with a 37. His previous collegiate-high was a 75, Sept. 29, 2019.

Carlie Beatty won the balance beam with a score of 9.500 in UW-Stout's dual win over UW-Eau Claire April 1. Beatty finished fifth on the vault (9.175) and sixth on the floor exercise (9.325).
Baseball position player of the week
Kasey Bass, 1B, 6-3, 245, Sr, Sun Prairie, Wis.
Kasey Bass hit a bases loaded double to drive in three runs to lift UW-Stout to a 9-7 win in the second game of a doubleheader with UW-Stevens Point April 2. The first baseman drove in a run in the seventh inning to pull Stout to within two runs. Bass was 2 for 5 with four RBI in that game. For the week in four games, Bass was 6 for 17 with six RBI and two doubles. In the field, Bass was perfect in 32 chances.

Brent Heilman, Sr, West Salem, Wis.
Brent Heilman finished fourth in the 100m and third in the 200m at the La Crosse Tribute Triangular with times of 10.67 and 21.78. He currently ranks third in the conference and sixth in the nation in the 200m.
Men's field athlete of the week
Kevin Ruechel, Sr, Pulaski, Wis.
Kevin Ruechel won the discus at the La Crosse Tribute Triangular with a throw of 53.26m (174-9) which leads the conference by five meters and the nation by 1.5 meters. He also finished second in the shot put with a throw of 15.67m (51-5) which ranks third in the conference and 12th in the nation.
Women's field athlete of the week

Demi Ploor finished second in the shot put at the La Crosse Tribute Triangular with a throw of 13.00m (42-8). That throw ranks fifth in the conference and 14th in the nation.
Women's golf player of the week
Abbey Filipiak, Fr, Elk River, Minn.
In her first collegiate meet, Abbey Filipiak tied for first place at the Carthage College Firebird Invitational Saturday at Red Tail Run. Filipiak scored an 83.

Softball position player of the week
Kelly Beck, OF, 5-5, Jr, Wadsworth, Ill. (Warren Township)
In two games at Luther College, March 24, Kelly Beck hit .500 (2-4) and recorded one sacrifice hit. Beck is currently hitting .400 (8-20) on the season with three runs scored.
Baseball position player of the week
Riley Boushack, OF, 6-2, 180, Fr, Marshfield, Wis.
Over four games last week, freshman Riley Boushack hit .462 (6-13) with one run scored and five RBI. With five walks, Boushack had a .611 on-base percentage. Boushack was 2 for 3 with three RBI in a loss to UW-La Crosse, finishing the doubleheader March 25 going 4 for 7. In a sweep of UW-Eau Claire, March 27, Boushack went hitless in game one, but drew two walks, then was 2 for 4 in the nightcap with two RBI, driving in two runs in the bottom of the first inning to put Stout in the lead.

James Palmer collected his second win of the season, pitching a collegiate-best eight innings in a 3-1 win over UW-Eau Claire, March 27. Palmer notched a collegiate-best 10 strikeouts and allowed only two walks, while scattering four hits.

Hannah Zastrow won the high jump at the Great River Dust Buster Meet at UW-La Crosse with a jump of 1.65m (5-5). That jumps leads the conference and ranks in a tie for fifth nationally.

Shadae Boone, Sr, Maple Grove, Minn (Park Center)
Shadae Boone scored a personal-best 9.800 to win the floor exercise, just short of the school record of 9.900, as UW-Stout defeated Hamline University, 182-700-181.550, Saturday evening at Johnson Fieldhouse. The mark tops the WIAC Honor Roll and Boone came one-tenth of a point short of Kaylee Jondahl's 2016 record. Boone also won the vault with a 9.700.
Gymnastics all-arounder of the week
Kiara Bruening, Fr, Sedona, Ariz. (Red Rock)
Freshman Kiara Bruening continued improving on her all-around score each week, setting a personal best for the third straight week when she scored a 37.450 in a dual win over Hamline University, 182.700-181.550. Bruening was first in the all-around, third in the vault (9.450), second in the bars (8.900), first on the beam (9.600) and second on the floor (9.500).
Softball position player of the week
Kaylee Peterson, OF, 5-9, Jr, Woodbury, Minn. (East Ridge)
Over four games last weekend, Kaylee Peterson was 6-10 at the plate for an average of .600, slicing a double and a triple with a slugging percentage of .900. Peterson drew two walks for an on-base percentage of .615. Peterson drove in three runs, including one on a sacrifice fly. In a 6-5 win over St. Benedict, Stout's final game of the weekend, Peterson was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Peterson hit a two-run triple in the first inning, then came home on Taylor Mancl's double. Peterson laced a double in the seventh inning. For the season, Peterson is hitting .400 (8-20) with three RBI.

In a 16-2 win over UW-Platteville, March 20, Szykowny was 4 for 5 with three RBI, including a two-run home run, and scored three runs. While Szykowny did not record a hit in an 11-6 second game loss, Szykowny drew three walks, stole two bases and scored two runs.

James Palmer, LHP, 6-3, 215, Sr, Boyceville, Wis. - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
James Palmer recorded nine strikeouts, allowing no walks, and went 6.0 innings to get the win in a season-opening 16-2, seven-inning win over UW-Platteville, March 20. Palmer scattered four hits and allowed two runs, both earned. Over the last three innings he pitched, Palmer did not allow a base runner and struck out five during that stretch.

Shadae Boone, Sr, Maple Grove, Minn (Park Center) - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week and Kwik Trip/WIAC Athlete of the Week
In her first meet of the season, Shadae Boone won two events at the UW-Whitewater/UW-Stout dual, March 13. Boone won the vault by more than three-tenths of a point with a 9.750, just short of her own school record (9.825). It's the fifth time in her career Boone has scored 9.750 or higher on the vault. She won the floor exercise with a 9.650. Both scores lead the WIAC Honor Roll.

Kevin Ruechel, Sr, Pulaski, Wis. - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Kevin Ruechel won the shot put at the WIAC Last Chance Meet at UW-Whitewater by nearly two meters with a throw of 18.31m (60'1"). That mark was a school record by nearly two feet and leads the WIAC and NCAA Division III.

Luke Geiger, G, 6-2, 175, Sr, Burlington, Wis. - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Luke Geiger scored a season-high 20 points in 93-90 overtime win over UW-Whitewater, Feb. 24, then did that better two days later, scoring a team-high 25 points as the Blue Devils completed a sweep of UW-Whitewater with an 87-80 win, Feb. 26. In the first game, Geiger scored 11 of his 20 points in the second half of regulation, then scored the opening basket of overtime to put Stout ahead. With the score tied at 88, Geiger pulled down a rebound that seconds later led to Armani Tinsley's go-ahead 3-pointer. Geiger was 6-of-13 from the field with a 3-pointer and went 7-9 from the line. He had nine rebounds. In the rematch, Geiger scored eight points, two 3-pointers and a lay-up, in the first five minutes of the game and scored 12 points in the first half. In the second half, Geiger hit a 3-pointer with 1:22 remaining to break an 80-80 tie, grabbed a rebound with 30 seconds remaining and hit two free throws with nine seconds left to seal the game. On the night, Geiger was 9-of-14 with three 3-pointers and was 4-for-4 from the line. He had five rebounds and four steals. For the week, Geiger was 15-27 (.555) from the floor, 4-9 (.444) from 3-point range, 11-13 (846) from the line, had 14 rebounds and five steals.
Women's basketball athlete of the week
Haylee Yaeger, F, 5-11, So, Prescott, Wis.
Haylee Yaeger scored 14 points and was just short of a double-double by collecting nine rebounds in a second game loss to UW-Whitewater.
Hockey athlete of the week
Raphael Gosselin, 5-10, 150, Jr, Quebec City, Quebec
Raphael Gosselin scored UW-Stout's eventual game-winning goal in a 4-1 win over UW-Stevens Point, Feb. 24 in Menomonie. With Stout leading 1-0, Gosselin scored at 16:41 of the first period, then less than two minutes later added an assist to Logan Nelson's goal to give Stout a 3-0 lead. In the rematch two days later, Gosselin had an assist on a power play goal to tie the game at 1-1 early in the second period. This season, Gosselin has three goals and seven assists.

Cody Lohrenz won the 400m at the UW-River Falls/UW -Stout Dual with a time of 50.34. That time ranks fifth in the conference and 19th in the nation.
Men's field athlete of the week
Jacob Bugella, Jr, Rice Lake, Wis.
Jacob Bugella won the weight throw at the UW-River Falls/UW-Stout Dual with a throw of 18.20m (59'8.5"). That throw ranks first in the conference and third in the nation. He also finished third in the shot put.
Gymnastics specialist of the week
Carlie Beatty, So, Lakeville, Minn. (South)
Carlie Beatty won the balance beam with a score of 9.550 as UW-Stout defeated Gustavus Adolphus, 181.875-177.050, Friday. She was fourth on the floor exercise with a 9.250.
Gymnastics all-arounder of the week
Kiara Bruening, Fr, Sedona, Ariz. (Red Rock)
In her first collegiate gymnastics meet, Kiara Bruening had a first and two second place individual finishes as UW-Stout defeated Gustavus Adolphus, 181.875-177.050, Friday. Bruening captured first on the vault (9.550), second on the uneven bars (9.050) and second on the balance beam (9.450). She was first in the all-around with a 36.525. up
Softball position player of the week
Korin Hall, OF, 5-4, Jr, Farmington, Minn. - WIAC Athlete of the Week
Korin Hall went 7-for-9 (.778) at the plate with a double and scored seven runs over two games in UW-Stout's season opening sweep of UW-Superior, Feb. 27 in Mankato, Minn. As the team's lead-off hitter in both games, Hall went 3 for 4 with three runs scored in the first game. In the second game, Hall went 4 for 5 with four runs scored and one RBI. Hall had two stolen bases in the second game, stealing third base in the first inning and stealing home in the third game.
Softball pitcher of the week
Mackensie Wolterstorff, RHP, 5-5, So, Mounds View, Minn. (Irondale) - WIAC Athlete of the Week
Mackensie Wolterstorff came on in relief to pick up the win in the second game 7-6 decision over UW-Superior in the season opener Feb. 27, going four complete innings, allowing no runs, striking out eight and walking none while facing 14 batters. Wolterstorff came on for Stout's starting pitcher in the fourth inning with two runners on base and no outs and put out the fire, recording two strikeouts in the inning and threw out the lead off runner for the third out. And Wolterstorff struck out two batters in both the fifth and the sixth innings, allowed a base runner in the bottom of the seventh, but recorded a strikeout for the final out of the game.

Men's basketball athlete of the week
TYreese Alexander, F, 6-5, 180, Sr, Pontiac, Mich. (Oxford)
TYreese Alexander scored 18 points, shooting 8-11 from the floor in an 84-62 loss to UW-La Crosse, Feb. 17. On the week, Alexander scored 24 points (12.0 ppg), had six rebounds (3.0 rpg) and had three assists.
Women's basketball athlete of the week
Haylee Yaeger, F, 5-11, So, Prescott, Wis.
Haylee Yaeger scored a career-high 20 points and made it a double-double by pulling down 10 rebounds in a 67-59 loss at UW-La Crosse Feb. 17. In the contest, Yaeger was 10-16 from the field and had two assists and one blocked shot. In the rematch Feb. 19, Yaeger scored nine points and had eight rebounds. On the week, she scored 29 points (14.5 ppg), had 16 rebounds (8.0 rpg) and had two assists, one blocked shot and two steals.

Raphael Gosselin had an assist on a power play on Stout's first goal against UW-Eau Claire, Feb. 17, then scored Stout's final goal of the game against the Blugolds, Feb. 19.

Spencer Schultz won the mile at the UW-Stout/UW-La Crosse Dual with a time of 4:17.37. That time ranks eighth in the conference and 19th in the nation.

Jacob Bugella won the weight throw at the UW-Stout/UW-La Crosse Dual with a throw of 18.06m (59'3"). That throw ranks first in the conference and third in the nation. Bugella has captured first in the weight throw in three consecutive meets.

Mackenzie Huber won the shot put at the UW-Stout/UW-La Crosse Dual and finished third in the weight throw. Her mark of 13.68m (44'10.75") ranks second in the conference and fourth in the nation. Her weight throw was a personal-best of 16.43m (53'11") ranks fifth in the conference and ninth in the nation.

Women's basketball athlete of the week
Anna Mutch, G, 5-8, Fr, Apple Valley, Minn. (Apple Valley)
Anna Mutch averaged 9.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two games against UW-Eau Claire last week. In a 78-71 loss at Eau Claire, Mutch scored seven points and had six rebounds. In a 89-71 loss at home, the freshman scored 12 points – her third game in double digits this season – and was one rebound short of her second double-double of the season with nine boards. On the season, Mutch is averaging 11.3 points and 9.0 rebounds.

Zack Cloutier, G, 5-10, 170, Fr, Val-D'or, Quebec - The Heights/UW-Stout Athlete of the Week & Kwik Trip/WIAC Athlete of the Week
Zack Cloutier notched two wins last week, including his first collegiate shutout in a 1-0 win over Northland College, Feb. 10. Cloutier held off Northland, Feb. 12, with a 4-2 win, his third of the season in four games. In the 1-0 home win over Northland, Cloutier turned away 23 shots. In the 4-2 road win, Cloutier stopped 34 shots, including 15 in the second period and 14 in the third. On the week, Clouiter recorded 57 saves with a .966 saves percentage and a GAA of 1.00.

Spencer Schultz won the 3K at the UW-Stout/UW-Eau Claire Dual with a time of 8:38.34. That time ranks fourth in the conference and 13th in the nation.

Noah Zastrow, Sr, Spencer, Wis. (Spencer) - Kwik Trip/WIAC Athlete of the Week
Noah Zastrow won the pole vault at the UW-Stout/UW-Eau Claire Dual with a vault of 5.35m (17-6.50). That vault broke his own facility record which he set last week and currently ranks firstt in the nation by 10 inches and first in the conference by nearly two feet. He also won the Long Jump with a jump of 6.59m (21-7.50)

Hannah Zastrow, Fr, Spencer, Wis. (Spencer) - Kwik Trip/WIAC Athlete of the Week
Hannah Zastrow won the 60-hurdles at the UW-Stout/UW-Eau Claire Dual with a time of 8.95 seconds. That time set a school record and ranks first in the conference and third in the nation. She also finished secondin the high jump with a jump of 1.65m (5-5) which ranks fourth in the nation and third in the WIAC.

Mackenzie Huber, So, Colby, Wis. (Colby)
Mackenzie Huber won the shot put at the UW-Stout/UW-Eau Claire Dual with a throw of 13.73m (45-0.50), a throw that ranks second in the conference and fourth in the nation. She also finished second in the weight throw with a throw of 15.25m (50-0.50).

Men's basketball athlete of the week
Lovell Williams, G, 6-2, 170, Fr, Rogers, Minn. (Maple Grove)
Lovell Williams scored 20 points and dished off four assists in his first collegiate game, Feb. 3. Williams followed that up 10 points, Feb. 5, as Stout went 1-1 in the opening week, falling 82-77 after nearly coming back from a 21-point deficit, then notched an 81-72 win at River Falls. In the opener, Williams hit 6-9 from the floor, including going 4-6 from 3-point range, scoring 14 points in the second half as Stout got to within one point with five minutes left in the game. Williams was 5-10 from the floor the second night. For the week, Williams was 11-19 from the floor (.579) and 4-7 (.574) from 3-point range. He was 4-5 from the line and had six assists and five steals.

Erin O'Brien, C, 6-2, So, South Haven, Minn. (Kimball) - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week sponsored by The Heights
Erin O'Brien notched career-bests in her first two outings as UW-Stout swept past UW-River Falls, 84-77, Feb. 3, and 80-75, Feb. 5. O'Brien scored a career-high 14 points in the first contest of the season at River Falls, then topped that in the next game with a 21-point effort, scoring nine points in the fourth quarter as Stout overcame a 15-point, third quarter deficit. In the opener, O'Brien scored six of her 14 points in the first quarter. On the week, O'Brien shot 16-26 (.615) from the floor and made all three free throw attempts. She finished with nine rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots.

Logan Nelson, F, 6-1, 200, Jr, St. Michael, Minn. (St. Michael-Albertville)
Logan Nelson scored two goals and added an assist in UW-Stout's season-opening 5-1 win over UW-River Falls, Feb. 3, in Menomonie. Nelson scored the first goal of the game in the first period, added an assist later in the first period on Stout's second goal of the game, a goal that would be the eventual game-winning goal, then added the team's fourth goal of the game in the third period.

Carter Wente, So, Porter, Minn. (Canby)
Carter Wente won the 60-hurdles in UW-Stout's dual win over UW-River Falls in a time of 8.57 seconds. That mark ranks fourth in the conference and 17th in the nation. He also finished second in the 200-meter with a time of 23.11.

Kevin Ruechel, Sr, Pulaski, Wis.
Kevin Ruechel won the shot put at the Stout-River Falls Dual, Feb. 6, with a throw of 16.31m (53-6.25). That mark leads the conference by over a foot and ranks third in the NCAA Division III
Women's track athlete of the week
Hannah Zastrow, Fr, Spencer, Wis.
Hannah Zastrow won the 60-hurldes at the Stout-River Falls Dual, Feb. 6, with a time of 9.05 seconds which ranks third in the conference and fifth in the nation. She also won the high jump with a jump of 1.65m (55) which also ranks third in the conference and fourth in the nation.

Jenna Driscoll won the triple jump at the Stout-River Falls Dual, Feb. 6, with a jump of 10.65m (34-11.25). That jump ranks ninth in the conference.
