Austin Zett, Sr, Presque Island, Wis. (Lakeland) - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Austin Zett captured his first WIAC crown with a school record toss of 177-feet, 11-inches in the discus, outpacing his competition by more than 10 feet. Zett broke the school record of 174-10 set by Sean Larson in 2010. Larson set the mark when he won the 2010 national discus title. Zett’s winning toss came on his second-to-last attempt. During the previous week, Zett competed twice in one day, finishing eighth in the Drake Relays in the morning with a mark of 50.36m (165-2) and was the top collegiate finisher in the discus later in the day at the St. Mary’s Open April 25 in Winona, Minn., with a throw of 52.17m (171-2).
Womens field performer of the week
Meagan Ward, Sr, Eau Claire, Wis. (North)Meagan Ward won the 2015 WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship heptathlon title, winning four of the events. Ward took the two-day event with a personal-best points total of 4934, winning the event by more than 150 points. Ward won the title by finishing first in four events - the javelin, the shot put, the high jump and the 800-meter run. Her marks in the high jump (5-4.25) and the javelin (114-7) tie her for fifth in both events on the all-time UW-Stout list.

Tori Workman, RHP, 5-6, Jr, Prior Lake, Minn.Tori Workman started two games last week over four games, completing both games. Workman appeared in the circle in three games for a total of 17.1 innings pitched, collecting 15 strikeouts, running her conference-leading total to 129.

Taylor Workman batted .364 (4-11) with three RBI.

Bowe struck out two and surrendered one walk. On the season, Bowe has gone 60.1 innings with an ERA of 2.24, a record of 4-3 and has notched 26 strikeouts.

Abbey Ball, RHP, 5-8, Fr, Austin, Minn. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Abbey Ball earned two wins last week in making two appearances. Ball earned the win against UW-Stevens Point, coming in for long relief in a 2-1 win over the Pointers. Ball allowed one hit, no runs and struck out three in 5.1 innings of work. Ball also scored the winning run in the game, drawing a walk, then scored from third when a Stout runner got hung up between first and second and she beat the throw home. In a 3-2 decision over UW-Oshkosh, Ball earned the start and the win by scattering nine hits and two runs, but only one earned run. In the contest, Ball allowed only five fly balls and her infield backed her up with 13 ground outs. On the week, Ball allowed 10 hits with only one extra base hit, two runs, one earned run, walked four, and struck out three.

Liz Seipel, LF, 5-8, So, Eau Claire, Wis. (Altoona)In four games last week where UW-Stout went 3-1,
Liz Seipel hit .364 (4-11), drove in two runs, had two sacrifice hits and stole four bases in four attempts. Stout defeated UW-Stevens Point, 6-2, 2-1, and split with UW-Oshkosh, losing the first, 5-4, but winning the second, 3-2. In the 2-1 win over the Pointers, Seipel played a key role in the game-winning run. After hitting safely moving a runner to third, she meandered halfway between first and second, drew the throw and was tagged out, but allowed what would prove to be the game-winning run to score from third.

Zach Carlson, RHP, 6-3, 180, So, Indian Head Park, Ill (Lyons Township)Zach Carlson recorded a 4-3 win over UW-La Crosse, April 18, by going seven complete innings, giving up eight hits and three runs, but only one earned. Carlson recorded four strikeouts and walked one.

Hunter Dicus, OF/DH, 6-2, 195, So, Elk Mound, Wis.Over six games last week,
Hunter Dicus hit .524 (11-21) with an RBI, a double and stole one base. Since earning a starting role in early April, Dicus put together an 11 game hitting streak, which was broken in Stout’s first game against UW-La Crosse, April 1. Dicus started another streak in the second half of the doubleheader, going 4-for-5. On April 19, Dicus went 2-for-2 with two walks in the first game, then was 2-for-4 in the series finale.

Paul Van Grinsven, Sr, Little Chute, Wis.Paul VanGrinsven was the top collegiate finisher in the Phil Esten Challenge, April 17 in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:11.13 which ranks him 3rd in the NCAA Division III.

Jada Hamilton ran a personal best in the 200m at the Phil Esten Challenge with a time of 25.61 which ranks her among the top 50 in the nation in the NCAA Division III.

Laura Mesenburg, Jr, Byron, Minn.Laura Mesenburg pole vaulted 3.70m (12-1.50) to win the 17-member field at the Phil Esten Challenge. Mesenburg is currently tied for 10th in the nation, and is tied for first in the WIAC.

Softball pitcher of the week
Tori Workman, RHP, 5-6, Jr, Prior Lake, Minn.Tori Workman worked 22.2 innings and started four games, allowing nine earned runs (16 total runs) and fanned 23. Workman started four games, was 1-2 and picked up a save in Stout’s 6-4 win over UW-Platteville. She also recorded the 9-7 win over the Pioneers earlier in the day.

Sara Griesbach, RF, 5-6 Jr, Stratford, Wis.Playing in four games last week,
Sara Griesbach collected five total RBI, hitting .500 (5-10). In two wins against UW-Platteville, Griesbach was a collective 4-for-6 with five RBI. In the first game with the Pioneers, Griesbach hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning in what would prove to be the game winning run. In game two, she had a sacrifice bunt to score the first run of the game, then delivered an RBI single in the fifth to make the score 4-2. Griesbach scored Stout’s final run of the game in the seventh inning. Defensively, Griesbach threw out a batter from right field (9-3), and also held a potential scoring run at third base with a spot-on throw to home.

Kellen Pearson, RHP, 6-2, 190, Jr, Hudson, Wis.Kellen Pearson pitched 6.0 innings and scattered five hits, allowing one earned run while striking out three and walking one in a 6-2 win over 4th/10th University of St. Thomas Saturday.

Nick Nalbach, SS, 5-10, 165, Sr, Plover, Wis. (Stevens Point Pacelli)For the week over six games, shortstop
Nick Nalbach hit at a .542 clip (13-24) with six RBI and five runs scored on three doubles and two triples. In 24-at-bats, Nalbach struck out only once and drew two walks. Nalbach fielded .944, with one error in 18 chances. In a 16-4 win over 4th/10th ranked St. Thomas Saturday, Nalbach was 3-for-4 with three RBI with two triples and two runs scored. Nalbach currently has a 12-game active hitting streak and is hitting .449 (31-69) on the season.

Nick Lubinski, Jr, Hudson, Wis.Nick Lubinski finished second in the high jump and sixth in the javelin at the UW-Platteville Invitational with marks of 2.00m (6-6.75) in the high jump and 50.84m (166-9) in the javelin. The marks put Lubinski second in the conference in the high jump and fifth in the javelin.

Laurisa Titterud finished second in the 800-meter run at the UW-Platteville Invitational, setting a school record with a mark of 2:12.94, breaking the previous mark of 2:13.23, set by All-American Katie Jacobson in 1998.
Womens field performer of the week
Laura Mesenburg, Jr, Byron, Minn.Laura Mesenburg finished second in the pole vault at the UW-Platteville Invitational with a jump of 3.51m (11-6.25), ranking 17th in the NCAA Division III.
UW-Stout Athletes of the Week (April 6, 2015) Softball position player of the week
Rachel Thomas, C, 5-6, Fr, Hastings, Minn.Rachel Thomas drove in a run with a two-out single up the middle to pull UW-Stout to within 4-2 in the second game against an eventual loss to 13th ranked UW-Whitewater. Thomas was 2-for-3 in the game, and also entered game one as a pinch hitter, but did not get a hit.

Bowe struck out three and walked two, scattering nine hits, but allowed runs in only one inning. With two outs and the potential tying runner on first base, Bowe induced a ground-out to win the game. On the season, Bowe has a 3-0 overall record with an ERA of 1.69 and 16 strikeouts, and leads the team with 26.2 innings pitched.

Josh Halling, RF, 6-0, 190, Jr, River Falls, Wis. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
In four games against 7th/9th ranked UW-Stevens Point, rightfielder
Josh Halling batted .429 (6-14) with three runs batted in, hitting two doubles and a home run. In Stout’s 4-3 win over the Pointers, Halling connected on the game-winning RBI, driving the ball to left centerfield to score Noah Brown from second. Halling had at least one hit in each of the four games with the Pointers, going 2-for-2 in game one, 1-for-4 with a run scored in game two, 2-for-4 in game three and 1-for-4 in game four. Halling had an RBI in each of the last three games. He was perfect in the outfield in four chances. On the season, he is hitting .262 (17-47) with four doubles, two triples, one home run and five RBI.

Matt Message, Jr, Gurnee, Ill. (Warren Township)Matt Message ran 1:55.83 in the 800-meter run to finish third at the Ashton May Invitational, which was nearly a two second personal best and was the top conference finisher in the race.

Heidi Lieffort, Fr, Colfax, Wis.Heidi Lieffort threw 41.46m (136-1) at the Ashton May invitational to win the discus throw and also threw 42.18m (138-5), March 21, at the Tulsa Duels to place fourth, getting beaten only by Division I athletes. Lieffort also pole vaulted 10-feet, 8-inches at the Tulsa Duels and threw 42.34m (138-11) in the hammer throw.

Kaylee Jondahl, So, Anoka, Minn (Elk River) - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Kaylee Jondahl won the national championship in the floor exercise at the NCGA Championship, March 28, and also earned All-America honors by placing third in the vault and 10th in the all-around. During team competition, Jondahl broke her own school record on the vault, hitting a 9.725.
Softball pitcher of the week
Tori Workman, RHP, 5-6, Jr, Prior Lake, Minn.Tori Workman went 2-1, including a 1-0 win over 16th ranked Augustana College at the Augustana College Tournament, March 28-29, in Rock Island, Ill. Workman struck out six and stranded four Viking runners, including two in the top of the seventh to notch the win. Workman struck out 15 over 20 innings pitched and allowed two walks. Workman hit a two-run double in a 4-3 win over Wartburg in the tournament opener and was 5-for-12 (.417) at the plate with three RBI for the tournament to lead Stout offensively over the weekend.

Nicole Rogers, OF, 5-5, Jr, Brooklyn Center, Minn. (Totino-Grace)Nicole Rogers went 4-for-10 at the Augustana College Tournament, including a double, and scored one run. In the outfield, she had three putouts and one assist where she hit the cutoff, who turned and threw out the runner attempting to score what would have been the tying run in an eventual 4-3 win over Wartburg College. Rogers also made a diving catch in right-centerfield to get the final out of the game in the top of the seventh with two runners on base to seal a 1-0 win over 16th ranked Augustana College.

Drew Worth, LHP, 6-3, 210, Fr, Brown Deer, Wis.Drew Worth picked up his third win of the season pitching six innings of scoreless ball, allowing one hit against Northland College, March 24, in Stout’s home opener. Worth recorded two strikeouts and gave up four walks, but also had three different batters hit into double plays.

Brady Burzynski, CF, 5-11, 175, Jr, Eau Claire, Wis. (Memorial)Brady Burzynski was 3-for-4 with an RBI in a 4-3 win over Northland College, March 24. Burzynski had a stolen base, his 15th of the season, and had three putouts in centerfield.

Tori Workman, RHP, 5-6, Jr, Prior Lake, Minn.Tori Workman started four games during the Blue Devils’ 10 game swing through the National Training Center Spring Games last week in Clermont, Fla., and made appearances in in the circle in nine games, coming on in relief in five games. Workman finished the week with 36.0 innings pitched, and collected 20 strikeouts, including nine against 13th ranked St. Thomas in a 4-3 loss. In relief, Workman worked 4.0 innings against 20th ranked William Paterson, scattering four hits, but giving up only one run, then worked 2.2 innings later that day against 17th ranked North Central College, allowing one hit and giving up no runs.

Lynzi Knudtson, SS, 5-7, Sr, Melrose, Wis. (Melrose-Mindoro)Playing four Top 25 teams,
Lynzi Knudtson batted .361 (13-36) in 10 games during UW-Stout’s Spring Break trip to the National Training Center games last week. Knudtson reached safely in all but two games and four times had two or more hits in a game. The Blue Devils’ shortstop, Knudtson finished the week with a fielding percentage of .905 and several times defensively ended an inning.

Hayden Bowe is off to a 2-0 start in three appearances, pitching 17.2 innings with 13 strikeouts, while scattering 11 hits, four runs, two earned. He has allowed five walks and only one extra base hits. Opposing batters are hitting .190 against him. Bowe’s most recent appearance was a 4-0 win over Lasell College, March 21 in Fort Myers, Fla., where he worked seven innings, scattered four hits and recorded seven strikeouts. Bowe faced three batters in four of his first five innings and allowed only one runner past second base. Bowe allowed a lead-off single in the sixth, got a ground out, allowed another single, then tossed a double play ball to end the inning. Earlier in the week, Bowe went 5.0 innings in an 8-2 win over Edgewood College, allowing two hits and one earned run. Bowe started against Hamline University, March 10, but did not figure into the decision, striking out three in a 4-3 Stout victory. For the season, Bowe has 13 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.02. As a team, Stout is off to an 8-2 overall start.

Jake Lunow, 3B, 5-10, 175, Sr, Princeton, Wis.Jake Lunow is batting .448 over the first 10 games of the season, starting all 10, and has hit safely in all but one game as UW-Stout is off to an 8-2 start to the 2015 season. In the game he did not get a hit, he drew two walks and scored both times. Lunow has collected 13 hits in 29 at-bats, with six doubles and six runs batted in. Lunow’s on-base percentage is .568 and his slugging percentage is .655. He is third on the team in runs with eight scored. Lunow has drawn six walks with only two strikeouts. He is perfect in stolen bases, nabbing three in three attempts. Defensively, Lunow is fielding at a .962 clip at third base with one error in 26 chances and has figured into six double plays.

Kaylee Jondahl, So, Anoka, Minn. (Elk River) - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Kaylee Jondahl won the floor exercise with a school record score of 9.825 as UW-Stout finished third at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Region, March 15 and qualified as a team to the NCGA Championship. Jondahl will also compete individually on the vault where she qualified third from the West Region.

Kaylee Jondahl, So, Anoka, Minn. (Elk River)Kaylee Jondahl won the floor exercise with a score of 9.675 as UW-Stout downed Eau Claire, 186.80-182.625, the Blue Devils second best score of the season and the third best score in school history. Jondahl was also fifth on the vault (9.375).
Gymnastics all-arounder of the week
Kenzie Hyde, Fr, Sunderland, Ontario (Newmarket) - WIAC and UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Kenzie Hyde set a personal best in winning the all-around in a dual win over UW-Eau Claire, March 6, and led UW-Stout on the vault with a first placed finish of 9.650, matching a career-best on the event. All six Stout competitors finished among the top seven places on the vault. Hyde scored a 37.450 in the all-around and also placed third on the uneven bars (9.450) and fourth on the floor exercise (9.400). Stout downed Eau Claire, 186.80-182.625, the Blue Devils second best score of the season and the third best score in school history.

Laurisa Titterud, Jr, Lino Lake, Minn. (Mounds View) - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Laurisa Titterud broke her own school record in winning the 400-meter dash at the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships and was a member of the first place 4x400-meter relay team. Titterud clocked a time of 57.96 seconds, surpassing the mark she set earlier this season of 58.50 seconds. For the first time in school history, a UW-Stout women's 4x400-meter relay team captured the conference title. The team of Molly Brion, Alex Titterud, Laurisa Titterud and Jada Hamilton paced the field in a time of 3:57.02, edging UW-La Crosse, which finished at 3:57.10. The time was the second best time in Stout's books and is not only the first 4x400 win during an indoor WIAC championship, but also includes the outdoor season.

Tori Workman, RHP, 5-6, Jr, Prior Lake, Minn. - WIAC Pitcher of the Week
Tori Workman is off to a strong start both in the pitching circle and in the batters box. Making four appearances, three starts, one relief, Workman is 2-1 overall, throwing 22.1 innings, with an ERA of 1.27 with 29 strikeouts. Workman opened the season with a 5-3 loss to St. Benedict Feb. 14, but struck out 11, one short of the school record, and allowed three walks while scattering four hits and three earned runs. Workman notched a 7-1 win over Bethel, Feb. 21, then pitched three innings of shutout ball in three innings of relief the second game with Bethel. Workman recorded 10 strikeouts, allowed three walks and one earned run in a 3-1 win over St. Olaf, Feb. 27. Workman has been equally effective at the plate, leading the team with a batting average of .526 over the first six games, with two doubles, a triple and a home run to tally seven RBI. Workman has a six game hitting streak to lead off the season, and has had at least two hits in each of the last four games. The lead-off hitter in the last four games, Workman has scored at least once in each of the last four games. In game two against St. Olaf where she played defensively in the outfield, Workman was 2-for-4 with four RBI on a double and a home run. She also scored two runs.

Twice against Bethel University, Feb. 21, Griesbach has cut runners down at the plate attempting to score. In game one, Griesbach threw out a runner at the plate attempting to score to preserve a 2-1 lead as Stout went on to win 7-1. In game two, Griesbach threw out a runner at the plate attempting to stretch a triple. In Stout’s second game with St. Olaf, Feb. 27, Griesbach was 3-for-3 with three doubles and two runs scored. On the season, Griesbach is 7-for-18 at the plate with two RBI, four runs scored on four doubles. Griesbach is perfect in the outfield in eight chances.

Kenzie Hyde set a personal best in finishing second on the balance beam with a 9.525 in a dual with Winona State, Feb. 28. Hyde scored a 9.60 in finishing third on the vault. Stout’s team score (188.325) was the second highest in school history, and the Blue Devils broke school team records on the vault (47.800) and the balance beam (46.975).

Jondahl took first in the vault with a mark of 9.700, matching the school record set by All-American Naomi De Lara. Jondahl was first in the all-around with a personal best mark of 37.825. Jondahl was second on the floor exercise with a score of 9.625 and also set a personal best on the uneven bars with a score of 9.30. The team score was the second highest in school history, and the Blue Devils broke school team records on the vault (47.800) and the balance beam (46.975).

Women’s Basketball athlete of the week
Jenna Goldsmith, F, 6-1, So, St. Anthony, Minn. (St. Anthony Village)In two games last week,
Jenna Goldsmith averaged 15 points per game and 7.5 rebounds. Against UW-Superior, Feb.18, Goldsmith scored 16 points, including going 6-for-6 from the line, pulled down seven rebounds, had an assist, a blocked shot and two steals. Against UW-Whitewater, Feb. 21, Goldsmith finished with 14 points, including 4-for-4 from the line, had eight rebounds, one assist and two steals. Goldsmith finished the season averaging 12.0 points, shooting a league-best .542 from the floor. She averaged 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game.

Brett Ahsenmacher did what he could to give the Blue Devils their best chance over UW-La Crosse, Feb. 4. Ahsenmacher hit a 3-pointer with 3:39 remaining in the game to pull Stout to within 57-54. In the following minutes, Ahsenmacher made a couple of dynamic steals. Ahsenmacher grabbed the inbound pass and threw it off the body of an Eagle. Seconds later, Ahsenmacher went to the ground to make a steal. Stout converted off both steals, but La Crosse would make a last second field goal and win, 64-62. Ahsenmacher finished with nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The throw currently is 10th in the nation and was a career-best for Meier, moving her to second on the UW-Stout all-time list. Meier has consistently improved her throws this season. Coming into the year, her best distance was a mark of 48-5.25. Meier has improved her mark in every competition this year, starting off with a 49-7.75 at the Bethany Dual, a 51-8.25 at the Warren Bowlus Open and a 54-4.75 at the Pointer Invite.

(St. Anthony Village)Jenna Goldsmith led UW-Stout in scoring in both games against top conference teams as the Blue Devils split the game, upending UW-Eau Claire, 61-59, Jan. 28, but falling to UW-Oshkosh, 65-53, Jan. 31. Goldsmith scored 13 points and had seven rebounds in the win over UW-Eau Claire, then scored a career-best 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds against the Titans. Goldsmith, the league’s leader in field goal percentage, shot 6-of-9 against the Blugolds and 6-of-12 against the Titans to finish the week shooting 12-of-21 (.571). Defensively, Goldsmith had two blocked shots against the Blugolds and three against the Titans. Goldsmith has collected three double-doubles on the season.

Spencer Viele, G, 5-10, 175, So, Wildwood, Mo (Lafayette)Jarvis Ragland recorded 21 saves in the second period alone as he spearheaded a 4-3 win over 12th ranked UW-Eau Claire Jan 31 in Eau Claire. Viele turned aside 48 total shots, stopping nine in the first period, 21 in the second and 18 in the third as Stout improved to 3-3 in league play. On the evening, Viele turned away 11 power play shots on net (including one 5-on-3) and two with an extra Eau Claire attacker on the ice. Eau Claire went 0-for-5 on the power play.

Laurisa Titterud won the 400m and was a member of the winning 4x200m relay team doing both in school record fashion with times of 58.50 (12th in the nation) and 1:45.83 in the relay. In the 400, Titterud improved on her own 400-meter mark, recording a time of 58.50 seconds, nearly two seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Titterud had set the previous school mark last February with a time of 58.90. The relay team took more than a full second (1:46.94) off the previous school record. The relay team paced the field by more than six seconds.

Folkers drove to the hoop to score the winner with 57 seconds remaining and finished the night with a double-double, scoring 10 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. In a loss at UW-Platteville, Jan. 24, Folkers scored eight points and had eight rebounds.

Jalen Patterson has picked up his game, and is the team’s second leading scorer since January 3. Last week, Patterson scored nine points and had five rebounds in a loss at UW-River Falls. Patterson led the Blue Devils in scoring in a 60-59 loss to UW-Platteville, Jan. 24, dropping in 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

Austin Nelson, F, 5-9, 180, Fr, Hastings, Minn. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Austin Nelson scored a hat trick and added an assist in UW-Stout’s 7-2 win over Aurora University, Jan. 23. Nelson picked up an assist on the eventual game winning goal, providing the second assist for Karl Andersen at 12:02 in the first period. Nelson scored his first career goal at 8:17 of the second period, then added his second career goal at 3:58 of the third period. Nelson topped off the night by completing the hat trick – Stout’s first hat trick since the 2011-12 season – at 18:15 of the third period. The Blue Devils completed the sweep the next day with a 5-1 win over the Spartans. On the weekend, Nelson scored three goals and an assist and was a plus-5.

Randi Schorzman, Jr, Buckley, Wash. (White River)Randi Schorzman won the balance beam and set two personal bests as UW-Stout defeated Gustavus Adolphus College, Jan. 23. Schorzman scored a personal-best 9.625 to take the balance beam. She placed fifth on the floor exercise with a personal best of 9.10. Schorzman placed third on the vault with a score of 9.425.

Hamilton clocked a time of 26.56 seconds, best among all collegiate runners entered in the event, taking more than one-tenth off her previous best (26.67).

Chase Hollander, G, 5-10, 170, So, Random Lake, Wis. (Port Washington)Chase Hollander went 2-0-0 over the weekend when he recorded his first collegiate shutout in a 2-0 home win over UW-Superior, Jan. 16, then allowed two early goals in a 3-2 win at Superior the following night to get his first two wins of the season. Hollander also collected his first career assist. Hollander proved to be invincible during the first night at the Dunn County Ice Arena, stopping nine shots in the first period, 13 in the second and 15 in the third for a total of 37 saves. The Yellowjackets got to Hollander early in the rematch the following night at Wessman Arena, scoring twice in the opening 4-minutes, 8-seconds of the game. Hollander tightened the screws after that, not allowing a goal the rest of the way. Hollander actually got the Blue Devils on the board, making a pass to Danny Ray who scored the power play goal at the nine minute mark of the first period to cut the lead in half and record his first career assist. Hollander finished the night with 36 saves, recording 15 saves in the first period, 14 in the second and seven in the third. He stopped five power play shots.
Over the weekend, Hollander made 71 total saves, allowed two goals (1.00 GAA), had a saves percentage of .973, stopped eight total power play shot attempts and made six total saves with an extra Superior attacker on the ice. The two starts were Hollander’s third and fourth starts of the season, and his first since Nov. 14. Hollander dropped his season GAA from a 6.92 to a 4.17.

Jondahl finished third in the all-around with a career-best score of 37.575, finishing ahead of one Division I all-arounder. Jondahl matched a career-best on the floor exercise (9.750) in finishing eighth, and besting eight Division I athletes. She matched a career-best on the balance beam with a score of 9.000, finishing 15th. Jondahl finished ninth on the vault (9.650), topping eight Division I athletes. Jondahl finished 16th on the uneven bars (9.175).

Brea Boomer scored a double-double against UW-Eau Claire and led UW-Stout off the boards against UW-Whitewater last week. In a 66-49 loss at Eau Claire, Jan. 7, Boomer, tallied 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, in addition to three assists. In a 74-69 loss to Whitewater, Jan. 10, Boomer had a team-high seven rebounds and tossed in 10 points. She also had two assists and a blocked shot. On the week, Boomer averaged 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds. She shot 50 percent (10-20) from the floor.

Moody’s first goal closed out a three-goal, first period outburst to put Stout up 3-1. Moody assisted Jake Useldinger early in the second period to give Stout a 4-2 lead, then scored three minutes later on the power play to give Stout a 5-3 lead.

Jarvis Ragland, the only senior on the UW-Stout team, has scored at least 20 points in the past four games of the season, including a career-high 24 points in Stout’s 84-69 win over Wartburg College, Nov. 29, and 21 points in an 87-68 loss to the NAIA’s second ranked team, Cardinal Stritch University in the championship game of the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout the following night. Against Wartburg, Ragland shot 9-of-11 from the field, with a pair of 3-pointers, and had four rebounds. Against Cardinal Stritch, Ragland was 6-of-12 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. On the season, Ragland is averaging 20.0 points, shooting 55.2 percent (32-58) from the field, 40 percent (6-of-15) from 3-pont range and 81.1 percent (30-37) from the line. He is averaging 4.6 rebounds.

Patrick Jenkins repeated as an All-American, placing 13t at the NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championship, Nov. 22, in Mason, Ohio. Jenkins cruised the 8-kilometer course in a personal-best time of 24:17.0. Only former teammate and national championship Tim Nelson has a faster time in school history. Jenkins finished 15th at the 2013 national meet.

Becca Smith, G, 5-6, So, Victoria, Minn. (Chanhassen)Becca Smith scored eight points in the first half, then had four rebounds in the second half of a 77-70 win over St. Catherine, Nov. 20. Smith followed that up the next night when she hit a career-best 11 points in a 68-54 loss to 23rd ranked St.Mary’s, Nov. 21. Against St. Mary’s, Smith scored nine points in the second half, drilling 5-of-6 free throws after the break. In the two games last week, Smith was 5-of-14 from the floor, 2-of-7 from 3-point range, 7-of-8 from the line, had five rebounds, four assists and a steal, all coming off the bench.

Viele stonewalled the Lions, stopping 16 shots in the second period and three in the third period to finish with 24 saves. In the Lawrence win, Viele and the Stout defense successfully defended their one goal lead in the final 1:33 of the game when Lawrence sent an extra attacker onto the ice, putting three shots on net. Viele finished with 30 saves. On the weekend, Viele recorded two wins, made 54 saves, had a goals against average of 1.00 and a saves percentage of .964.

(Osseo-Fairchild)Tanner Kuehn ended his collegiate career on a high note, rushing for a career-high 122 yards and two touchdowns, including a 54-yarder midway through the fourth quarter that tied the game at 24-24. On Stout’s first drive of the second half, Kuehn carried the ball four times, including a 4-yard TD run to pull Stout to within 17-14. Kuehn also had two kickoff returns for 48 yards, with a long of 27 yards, finishing the game with 169 all purpose yards. The game marked the fourth time this year that Kuehn set a career-high in rushing yards and the second consecutive week he rushed for more than 100 yards after going for 114 in the team’s previous win over River Falls.

The Blue Devils qualified to a national meet for the first time since the 1986 team qualified to the NAIA National Championship and the first time to the NCAA Division III Championship since 1981. The fifth place regional finish was Stout's best finish since a seventh place finish in 2010.

Jordan Kelch became the first UW-Stout women cross country runners to qualifiy to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship since 1998. Both Thorn and Kelch earned all-region honors as Thorn placed eighth at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Nov. 15 at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne and both broke the school record Thorn had sent earlier this season.

Sarah Schoch scored in double figures in both games, scoring 14 points in a 64-57 loss to St. Norbert and 17 points in a 74-59 loss to Carroll University at the St. Norbert Tip-Off Classic Saturday and Sunday. Schoch shot .556 (5-9) from the floor against St. Norbert and was 4-6 (.667) from 3-point range. Against Carroll, she was 6-9 (.667) from the floor and 5-8 (.625) from 3-point range.

Jarvis Ragland, F, 6-4, 215, Sr, Milwaukee, Wis. (Rufus King)Jarvis Ragland, the only senior on the UW-Stout team, matched a career-best with 21 points in an 84-70 loss to Coe College Sunday at the Gabe Miller Tip-Off Classic at UW-Platteville. Ragland was 5-8 (.625) from the floor, 2-3 from 3-point range, 9-10 from the free throw line and had five rebounds. In a 94-79 season-opening loss to Ripon College Saturday, Ragland pulled down nine rebounds, scored 14 points and had four assists.

Garrett Peterson, QB, 6-4, 195, So, Menasha, Wis. (Appleton East)Garrett Peterson completed 26-of-39 passes for 324 yards and four TDs in a 34-23 come-from-behind win over UW-River Falls. Peterson had TD passes of 16-, 38-, 25- and 39-yards. His 38-yard TD pass to Aaron Jenny with no time left on the first half clock signaled the beginning of 27 unanswered points by the Blue Devils. Peterson engineered scoring drives of 6-plays, 57-yards; 3-plays, 55-yards; 8-plays, 33-yards; 8-plays, 80-yards; 7-plays, 68-yards; and 8-plays, 49-yards. Peterson’s 324 yards was the most in a single game by a Stout quarterback since 2004 and his four TD passes were the most since 2005.

Luke Bakkum had a monster game, tallying 18 total tackles, seven solo, two sacks for 18 yards, four tackles for losses of 23 yards and his first interception of the season in a 34-23 Stout win. In one seven-play series early in the third quarter, Bakkum had one solo tackle, was in on three tackles and recorded an interception with a five yard return. On the ensuing drive, Stout drove for a field goal and pulled to within six points. The Stout defense did not allow a River Falls second half score and the Falcons were held to four second half first downs. Three of Bakkum’s tackles came on special teams.

Kizlik scored in the 27th minute of the game to give Stout a 2-0 lead over the Gusties, then added two goals within two minutes of each other, scoring in the 57th and 59th minutes. Kizlik had six shots in the game.

Wiensch added 38 assists in a 3-1 non-conference win over UW-River Falls and averaged 11.77 assists per set last week. In addition, Wiensch had four total kills, one service ace and one block assist.

Molly Brion, DS/OH, 5-7, Jr, Cameron, Wis.Molly Brion, playing both front row and back, averaged 3.15 digs per set and collected a pair of block assists as Stout defeated UW-Superior (14 digs), 3-2, Oct. 15, and Bethel University (11 digs) and UW-River Falls (16 digs) by 3-1 scores, Oct. 18. Offensively, Brion had 16 kills against UW-Superior, including three in the final set, 13 kills against Bethel and 10 kills against River Falls. Brion averaged 3.00 kills per set.

Kathleen Thorn was 49th of 559 runners at the UW-Oshkosh AEE Invitational Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne. Thorn finished in a career-best and school record 6-kilometer time of 22-minutes, 22.67-seconds, cutting off nearly one minute (23:21.44) from her time last year on the same course. Thorn beat Krista Jahimiak’s 2006 school record of 22:27.

Against the Warhawks, Denny had two solo blocks and four assisted blocks. Saturday, the senior middle hitter had eight kills against UW-Oshkosh (W 3-0) and seven kills against Illinois Tech (W 3-0).

Nicole Bradford had her usual solid games at libero as UW-Stout went 3-1 on the week, getting 3-0 wins over St. Scholastica, UW-Oshkosh and Illinois Tech. The Blue Devils lost 3-1 at UW-Whitewater. Bradford, who finished the week averaging 4.54 digs per set, had 14 digs against St. Scholastica, Oct. 7. In a four set match against the Warhawks, Bradford had 20 digs and four service aces. Bradford recorded 16 digs against Oshkosh and nine in limited action against Illinois Tech.

Meyer had four saves in a 3-0 loss to UW-River Falls, Oct. 5.

McNett-Emmerich scored an 81 on the first day, then dropped that score to a 79 on day two, taking medalist honors by one stroke. Stout had all six players finish in the top 12 of the meet to win the invitational by 12 strokes.

Kelsey Pedersen was part of four wins in a pair of dual meets at Ripon College, Sept. 27. At No. 3 singles, Pedersen defeated Alverno College’s Zoe Yee, 6-0, 6-3, and at No. 4 singles defeated Ripon College’s Lucero Pena, 6-0, 6-2. Pedersen won a pair of No. 3 doubles matches with two different teammates. Against Alverno, she partnered with Danielle Lutz for an 8-4 win and against Ripon College, teamed with Jenna Welke for an 8-0 win.

Tanner Kuehn, RB, 5-8, 175, Sr, Fairchild, Wis (Osseo-Fairchild)Tanner Kuehn rushed for a career-best 88 yards on 18 carries and scored UW-Stout’s first touchdown, a 27-yard jaunt to tie the score, in a 45-14 loss to ninth ranked Wartburg College Sept. 20. Kuehn caught one pass for three yards, had one punt return for five yards and returned four kicks for 63 yards for a 15.6 yards per return average. Kuehn finished the night with 159 all-purpose yards.

Luke Bakkum, LB, 6-1, 195, Sr, Oconomowoc, Wis.Tanner Kuehn recorded eight tackles, six solo, in Stout’s 45-14 loss to ninth ranked Wartburg College, Sept. 20. Bakkum recorded 3.5 tackles for losses of nine yards and was in on 1.5 sacks for losses of five yards.

Clark Riedel, P, 6-0, 205, Fr, Waukesha, Wis. (West)Clark Riedel recorded 11 punts for 446 yards, for an average of 40.5 yards per punt, including a long of 57 yards. He put one punt inside the 20.

Morgan Denny, MH, 5-9, Sr, Luck, Wis.Morgan Denny averaged 3.31 kills/as UW-Stout went 4-0 last week at the St. Catherine Invitational. Denny finished the week with three solo blocks and 13 assisted blocks. Denny put down 15 kills in a five set win over Hamline University and had a solo block and three assisted blocks. In three set wins over St. Olaf and Grinnell College, Denny recorded 15 kills in each contest. Denny was named to the St. Kate’s Invitational all-tournament team.

Nicole Bradford, L/DS, 5-6, Sr, Ridgeland, Wis. (Colfax)Nicole Bradford averaged 5.62 digs (90 total) playing in all 16 sets last week as UW-Stout went 4-0 at the St. Catherine Invitational. In a five set win over Hamline, Bradford had 30 digs and in a five set win over host St. Catherine, she added 27. In three set wins over St. Olaf, Bradford had 19 digs against St. Olaf and 14 against Grinnell College.
Soccer offensive athlete of the week
Kelly Conn, F, 5-1, So, Menasha, Wis. (St. Mary’s Central)Nicole Bradford scored her first goal of the season and added an assist in leading UW-Stout to a 2-1 WIAC-opening win over UW-Platteville Saturday. Trailing the Pioneers early in the game, Conn delivered a corner kick to Jenna Kizlik in the box, who headed the ball into the net at the 17 minute mark. At the 32 minute mark, Conn settled a pass, wheeled around and booted the ball into the net to give Stout a 2-1 lead.

Brittany McNett-Emmerich, Sr, Madison, Wis. (West)Brittany McNett-Emmerich shot a four-over 76 as UW-Stout dominated the field at the Augsburg College Border Battle at the Les Bolstad/University of Minnesota course. The Blue Devils placed eight golfers in the top 10 and McNett-Emmerich took medalist honors by three strokes.

Aaron Jenny scored three touchdowns in UW-Stout’s 21-17 win over Loras College Saturday. Jenny had catches of 30-, 6- and 2-yards. The former all-WIAC basketball player finished the day with eight catches for 107 yards. In addition to his touchdown catches, Jenny had receptions of 23-, 3-, 8-, 27-, and 7-yards.

Alec Zoern, DL, 6-3, 240, Sr, Germantown, Wis.Alec Zoern recovered a fumble in the end zone in the final three minutes of play to help seal a 21-17 win over Loras College Saturday. With Loras threatening from the 17-yard line, the Duhawks completed a pass to the 3-yard line where the receiver fumbled the ball into the end zone and Zoern pounced on it. Zoern finished the day with three tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.

In addition, she finished with 10 solo blocks and six assisted blocks.

Jenna Kizlik, M, 5-4, Jr, Hammond, Wis. (River Falls)Jenna Kizlik scored the first goal of the game – and her first goal of the season - scoring in the 19th minute in a 1-1 tie with the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Sunday. Over three games last week, Kizlik took 10 shots, putting five on net.

Brittany McNett-Emmerich shot 79-71-150, six over par for 36 holes and finished 3rd in an extremely tough field at the Wartburg Fall Invitational. The 71 was an all-time low for the UW-Stout women’s golf program, which helped lead Stout to a 303 lowest team score in program history.
Men’s golf athlete of the week
Kraig Joy, Jr, Neenah, Wis.Kraig Joy took first place at the Carthage College Invitational by hitting a pair of 69s at Randall Oaks Golf Club. The scores matched a school record low for a single round. The Blue Devils finished second at the meet.

Angela Braun, Jr, Brookfield, Wis. (Pius XI)Angela Braun went 1-1 on the week at No. 1 singles, picking up a 7-5, 6-2 win over Bethany Lutheran’s Morgan Schwarz, Sept. 6. Braun lost earlier in the day to UW-La Crosses’ Bridget Bellissimo.

(Centennial)Laura Reiter led UW-Stout in a 3-1 season opening win over Carleton College, recording 14 kills against Carleton at the St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational Aug. 29. Reiter hit at a .233 clip in the contest. For the day, which included a 3-0 win over Macalester College, Reiter recorded 19 kills, one solo block and one block assist.

Karley Wiensch, S, 5-3, Sr, Chippewa Falls, Wis. (McDonell)Defensively,
Karley Wiensch, the UW-Stout setter recorded a team-high 27 digs (3.86 per set) with no reception errors as Stout opened the season with a 3-1 win over Carleton College and a 3-0 win over Macalester College, Aug. 29 at the St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational. Wiensch 20 digs vs. Carleton College and seven vs. Macalester. Wiensch put down four service aces on the day, three against Carleton College. She finished the day with 55 assists.
Women’s golf athlete of the week
Brittany McNett-Emmerich, Sr, Madison, Wis. (West)Brittany McNett-Emmerich placed fourth individually in an extremely strong 88 player field and led her team to a second place finish at the UW-Eau Claire Doug Georgianni Memorial Invitational, which featured many top 25 teams and all the best DIII teams from Minnesota. Scoring was very difficult both days and the courses played long due to the extremely soft conditions caused by several inches of rainfall. McNett-Emmerich scored a 78 on the first day of the meet, Aug. 30, at Wild Ridge Golf Course, then carded a 79 on the second day at Mill Run Golf Course.

Kraig Joy, Jr, Neenah, Wis. - UW-Stout Athlete of the Week
Playing in his first collegiate tournament,
Kraig Joy led UW-Stout to a second place finish at the Edgewood College Culvers’ Fall Invitational at Glen Erin Golf Course in Janesville. Joy scored a two-over 73 on the first day, Aug. 29, then played steady with a one-over 73 on the second day to finish with a 145. Joy was in eighth place after the first day and jumped up to a tie for second place. The Blue Devils, as a team, were in fourth after the first day. Five of Stout’s seven players dropped scores from day one to day two.
