Women's Soccer Earns 0-0 Draw at Superior

SUPERIOR — The University of Wisconsin-Stout Polytechnic women's soccer team battled the University of Wisconsin-Superior to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon. UW-Stout held off five UW-Superior scoring opportunities in the final minutes without conceding.

Stout opened the first half with pressure, as Tessa Pagel had shots saved by Cayley Larsen early on, and Kayla White and Sami Moseng added attempts. The Blue Devils continued to create chances with Mckenna Long's shot saved, followed by corners and Gianna Richter's shot also saved, before UW-Superior responded with offensive pressure with Kristen Silenzi saving Emma Wright's attempt and three corners. After Bella Mickey and Tia Rubow had later shots for the Blue Devils, the visitors closed the half with five shots and a corner, including Emily Schaupp's attempt saved by Larsen, and the teams went into halftime at 0-0.

Stout faced an extended UW-Superior push early in the second half, beginning with a corner and including Taylor DeCook's shot off the top woodwork. The Blue Devils put together their own attacking sequence, with LaVick putting another shot on frame, a corner kick, and attempts from Pagel and Rubow missing the target. Silenzi kept the match scoreless with consecutive saves on Lilly Breitkreutz and Emma Wright. Silenzi added stops on Abrianna Madill before UW-Superior produced two late shots and a corner in the final minute, but the second half ended with the match still tied 0-0.

Silenzi made five saves to earn her third consecutive clean sheet. Pagel shared the team lead with three shots and put two on goal. Mickey also finished with three shots. LaVick placed both of her shot attempts on goal.

With the draw, Stout stays undefeated in 2006 and moves to 2-0-1 and will host the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. at Nelson Field.
