Lawrence applied early pressure, recording three shots and six corner kicks during a stretch from the 14th to 19th minutes, but the Blue Devils kept the Vikings off the scoreboard. Sami Moseng put Stout's first shot on goal in the 21st minute, but Lawrence goalkeeper Claire Brockhert made the save. Lawrence's Kylie Melonis hit the woodwork in the 25th minute.

Tessa Pagel recorded two shots within a minute of each other late in the first half, while Stout goalkeeper Kristen Silenzi saved Elena Hartung's shot in the 32nd minute. Kayla White added a shot on goal in the 41st minute that was saved by Brockhert, and the Blue Devils earned a corner kick shortly afterward. The teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

Lawrence generated early pressure again in the second half, with Silenzi saving Ava Elders' shot in the 47th minute. The Blue Devils responded with a corner kick before Mckenna Long put a shot on goal in the 53rd minute that Brockhert saved.
