ST. PAUL — The University of Wisconsin-Stout Polytechnic women's soccer team fell to St. Catherine University, 5-1, Sunday at St. Kate's Field. The Blue Devils held a 1-1 tie at halftime before the Wildcats scored four goals in the second half.

Stout struck first in the seventh minute when Tessa Pagel scored an unassisted goal to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead. Alli LaVick put a shot on goal in the sixth minute, and the Blue Devils continued to apply pressure with additional shots from LaVick and Hannah Bolte, along with a corner kick.

St. Catherine answered in the 16th minute when Ali Owens scored off an assist from Emily Olson to tie the game at 1-1. Kristen Silenzi made saves on Charlotte Willems and Lydia Benson later in the half, and the teams remained tied heading into halftime.

The Wildcats took the lead just 1:22 into the second half when Elyse Snortum scored off a Katie McGrath assist. Snortum added her second goal of the game in the 59th minute, again assisted by McGrath, to give St. Catherine a 3-1 advantage. McGrath then scored in the 62nd minute to extend the Wildcats' lead to 4-1.

Emily Schaupp recorded Stout's lone shot of the second half in the 67th minute, but St. Catherine goalkeeper Brianna Valdez made the save. St. Catherine added its final goal in the 85th minute when Natalie Barnes scored off an assist from Emma Boys, securing the 5-1 victory.

Pagel recorded Stout's lone goal on her only shot of the game. LaVick led the Blue Devils with two shots, including one on goal, while Schaupp also put one shot on goal. Silenzi played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves. Stout finished with five shots, including three on goal, while St. Catherine recorded 12 shots and eight shots on goal.

Stout falls to 4-4-2 overall and will Blue Devils return home Wednesday, Sept. 30, when they host Lawrence University at noon at Nelson Field.
