Women's Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision to Northwestern

MENOMONIE — The University of Wisconsin-Stout Polytechnic women's soccer team fell to Northwestern-St. Paul 3-1 on Tuesday. The Blue Devils held a 7-5 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks, though Northwestern-St. Paul scored twice in the second half.

Stout started strong, creating the first chance when Tia Rubow's shot in the 13th minute was saved by Samantha Hansen. Bella Mickey then put the Blue Devils on the board in the 18th minute, scoring off assists from Lizzy Dallas and Rubow for a 1-0 lead. Northwestern-St. Paul tied the match on an own goal in the 38th minute, leaving the score even at halftime.

In the second half, Stout goalkeeper Kristen Silenzi made key saves on Marie Kendall's attempts in the 50th and 53rd minutes. The Blue Devils responded with consecutive attempts by Mickey and Rylee Wahlberg in the 58th minute. However, Northwestern-St. Paul took a 2-1 lead in the 61st minute when Britta Holter scored off a Mercy Erickson assist. Stout pressed late in the game with a corner and shots from Kayla White and Alli LaVick, but Northwestern-St. Paul sealed the win when Ada Meehan scored from Naomi Meehan in the final minute for the 3-1 finish.

The Blue Devils are now 2-2-1 overall and will travel to Decorah, Iowa, to face Luther College on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
