WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The UW-Stout softball team dropped both ends of a WIAC doubleheader to UW-Stevens Point Friday at the Wisconsin Rapids Sports Complex, falling 5-4 in 12 innings in game one and 2-0 in game two.
Game 1: UW-Stevens Point 5, UW-Stout 4 (12 innings)
Stout (13-11, 0-1 WIAC) jumped out early, plating two runs in the top of the first and adding single runs in the third and fourth innings to build a 4-0 lead.
Rayni Bresnahan led the Blue Devils at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double, while
Donna D'Addabbo reached base three times with a hit and two walks and scored a run.
UW-Stevens Point chipped away and eventually forced extra innings before walking off with a run in the bottom of the 12th. Stout finished with nine hits and drew four walks but stranded eight runners.
Game 2: UW-Stevens Point 2, UW-Stout 0
The Blue Devils were held scoreless in the second game despite collecting six hits.
Payton Dolecki led the offense with a 2-for-2 performance and reached base three times, while D'Addabbo and Bresnahan each added a hit.
Stout put runners on throughout the game but couldn't come up with a timely hit, leaving seven on base.
Stout will look to bounce back on Tuesday April 14 when the host the University of Northwestern (Minn.) in a double header at Alumni Field. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
