Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts Blue Devils to 15-8 win over Saint Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Stout women's lacrosse team pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat St. Ambrose University, 15-8, Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (3-1) scored five goals in both the second and fourth quarters to secure the nonconference road win, outshooting the Fighting Bees 41-21 and controlling much of the possession throughout the contest.

Stout came out quickly, scoring the first four goals of the game. Mai Nou Vang opened the scoring with 9:43 remaining in the first quarter off an assist from Luci Fitzgerald. Brinley Tonn followed with a goal just 26 seconds later before Erin Nolan and Vang added tallies to give the Blue Devils an early 4-0 lead. St. Ambrose responded with two late goals in the period to cut the deficit to 4-2 after one.

The Blue Devils regained momentum in the second quarter, scoring five times. Lauren Busho opened the frame with a goal from Tonn, and Vang added a short-handed goal midway through the period. Megan Palmer and Fitzgerald each scored in the final minutes, and Ava Loveland found the net with seven seconds remaining to give Stout a 9-4 halftime advantage.

St. Ambrose made a push in the third quarter, scoring four goals to pull within 9-8. Vang halted the rally with a power-play goal at the 6:04 mark to keep the Blue Devils in front heading into the final period.

Stout dominated the fourth quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to close the game. Riley Schulte started the run before Vang added two more tallies. Busho and Palmer capped the scoring to secure the 15-8 victory.

Vang led the Blue Devils with six goals while also recording seven draw controls and seven ground balls. Palmer and Busho each added two goals, while Fitzgerald finished with a goal and two assists. Tonn dished out three assists and Loveland contributed a goal and an assist.

The Blue Devils finished with 38 ground balls and 15 draw controls while forcing 19 St. Ambrose turnovers.
 
UW-Stout returns to action on Wednesday, March 11 when they host UW-Eau Claire at Nelson Field at 6 p.m. for the home opener
