Blue Devils Drop Season Finale

MENOMONIE — The University of Wisconsin-Stout Polytechnic women's soccer (4-9-7, 0-5-2) team lost to UW-Stevens Point (7-5-5, 2-3-2) 1-0 on Saturday in the season finale.

Silenzi saved Rita Danner's shot in the seventh minute before Stout built an early push with corner kicks in the 10th and 12th minutes and five shots through the 13th minute. Kayla White, Bella Mickey, Tia Rubow and Mia Brunelli all had attempts during that stretch, with Mickey putting one shot off the left woodwork in the 13th minute and another wide right later in the same minute.

Stevens Point answered with chances through the middle of the first half. Silenzi saved shots by Kayce Wadas in the 16th minute and Christa Borchardt in the 25th minute, and a stretch of five combined fouls from the 23rd through 32nd minutes slowed the pace. Silenzi added a late save on Borchardt in the 43rd minute to keep the match scoreless at halftime.

Silenzi stopped Wadas in the opening minutes of the second half, and Stout responded with Mickey's attempt before Stevens Point broke through in the 55th minute when Danner scored off an assist from Emily Miner. The Blue Devils generated a chance from Brunelli that Jocelyn Blahnik saved in the 65th minute, while Silenzi made saves in the 62nd and 70th minutes during a Stevens Point stretch that included shots from Danner, Piper Gunderson and Liliana Martinez along with three corner kicks.

Stout pushed late with White's shot in the 77th minute, Alli LaVick's saved attempt in the 88th minute, a corner kick later in the 88th minute and Sami Moseng's shot in the 89th minute, but Stevens Point held the 1-0 margin.

Mickey led the Blue Devils with three shots. Brunelli added two shots, including one on goal, and LaVick put her lone shot on goal. Stout matched Stevens Point with 12 shots and put two on goal. Kristen Silenzi recorded seven saves.
