Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cold Shooting Night Hampers UW–Stout in Loss at Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin–Stout women's basketball team endured a difficult shooting night Wednesday, falling 79–50 to UW–Stevens Point in WIAC action at Berg Gym.

The Blue Devils struggled to find consistency offensively throughout the night, particularly from beyond the arc, finishing just 3-of-17 from three-point range. Despite the shooting challenges, UW–Stout remained competitive through three quarters before a decisive fourth-quarter run by the Pointers put the game out of reach.

UW–Stout trailed 16–10 after the opening quarter and cut the deficit to 30–26 at halftime behind strong interior play and defensive effort. Addy Verhagen continued her strong stretch of play, scoring efficiently in the paint and at the free-throw line, while Maraya Wiltrout provided a spark around the rim on both ends of the floor.

The Blue Devils stayed within single digits for much of the third quarter, but Stevens Point began to create separation late in the period and carried that momentum into the fourth. UWSP outscored UW–Stout 28–9 in the final quarter, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and timely perimeter shooting.

Verhagen finished with a game-high 19 points to lead UW–Stout, while Wiltrout added 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds as the Blue Devils continued to battle despite the cold shooting night.
