PLATTEVILLE – UW-Stout volleyball battled hard but dropped a 3-1 decision to UW-Platteville (16-25, 29-27, 20-25, 17-25) in WIAC action Friday night at Williams Fieldhouse.
After dropping the opening set 25-16, the Blue Devils responded in the second. Stout erased a 17-10 deficit to take a 22-21 lead. The Blue Devils held off a Pioneer set point before scoring three of the final four points to secure a 29-27 win to even the match.
The Pioneers regained control in the third, hitting .273 to Stout's .147 in a 25-20 victory. Platteville then closed the night with a strong .406 hitting percentage in set four to seal the match, 25-17.
Brooke McCune led the Blue Devils with 15 kills and added nine digs, while
Kyra Giffen was highly efficient with 13 kills on a .355 hitting percentage.
Emma Barton chipped in five kills and a .375 efficiency.
Setting duties were shared by
Lainey Todd (22 assists) and
Nadia Marchionda (15 assists), with
Kailey Kline anchoring the back row with a team-best 12 digs.
Overall, Stout finished with 43 kills and hit .153 as a team, while Platteville tallied 66 kills and hit .267.
The Blue Devils will remain in Platteville tomorrow for a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, September 27. Stout will face MSOE at noon, followed by a match against Marian University (Wis.) at 2:30 p.m.
