MENOMONIE, Wis. (Sept. 24, 2025) – UW-Stout picked up a four-set win over Lawrence University, 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 25-23), Wednesday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils (11-3) came out strong, hitting an impressive .588 in the opening frame that saw 11 ties and five lead changes. Key kills from
Brooke McCune and a late service ace from
Maja Anderson helped seal the 25-21 win.
Lawrence (14-5) answered in the second set, despite a push from the Blue Devils, the Vikings closed the set 25-20 to even the match at 1-1.
Set three swung back in Stout's favor. A 6-1 run helped Blue Devils' to take control, McCune added timely kills down the stretch as Stout pulled away for a 25-20 victory.
The fourth set was the tightest of the night, featuring seven ties and multiple lead changes. Stout trailed 16-12, before rallying to take a 20-19 lead. McCune hammered four late kills, and
Emma Barton and
Hope Bushendorf teamed up for a big block as Stout edged out a 25-23 win to clinch the match.
McCune powered the Blue Devils' attack with a match-high 19 kills while hitting .455, and she added nine digs on the defensive end.
Barton chipped in six kills and six block assists, while Giffen tallied nine kills and three blocks. Horgan and Hessel combined for seven blocks as Stout finished with nine team blocks on the night.
Setters
Lainey Todd (19 assists) and
Nadia Marchionda (14 assists) ran the offense, while libero
Kailey Kline anchored the defense with eight digs. Anderson added three aces and nine digs.
Lawrence was led by Hazel Cook with 13 kills. Setter Ally Corrente finished with 50 assists, and libero Aria Wessel collected a match-high 11 digs.
The Blue Devils hit .288 as a team compared to .226 for Lawrence and held a 9-2 edge in blocks.
UW-Stout returns to action this weekend when they travel to Platteville, Wis. to face the Pioneers on Friday Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
