SUPERIOR – The UW-Stout volleyball team closed the Stinger Classic in with two strong victories on Saturday, defeating UW-Superior 3-1 before sweeping Concordia-Moorhead 3-0 to go 4-0 on the weekend.
In the first match of the day, the Blue Devils took on UW-Superior in a back-and-forth contest. After dropping the first set 17-25, Stout rallied to win the next three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-12. The offense was led by a pair of Blue Devils who each tallied double-digit kills.
Brooke McCune recorded 17 kills and 16 digs and
Emma Barton added 10 and six blocks. Setter's
Nadia Marchionda 21 assists and
Lainey Todd, 19 assists led the offense. Libero
Kailey Kline had a career-high 34 digs, which is the most in a match in the WIAC this season. At the net, Stout posted 12 total blocks, with four block assists apiece from
Brynn Hessel and
Kyra Giffen.
The Blue Devils carried their momentum into the second match, earning a convincing 3-0 sweep over Concordia-Moorhead with set scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-19.
Brooke McCune again led the offensive attack with 16 kills and added 10 digs. The setting duo of
Lainey Todd and
Nadia Marchionda distributed the ball effectively, with Todd tallying 19 assists and Marchionda adding 13.
Brynn Hessel,
Emma Barton and
Kyra Giffen all added five kills.
Kailey Kline added 21 digs. The Blue Devils also served tough, collecting six aces as a team.
McCune and Kline were named to the All-Tournament Team.
UW-Stout's two wins on the day bring their overall record to 10-3. They will return home on Wednesday, Sept. 24 to host Lawrence University. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in the Johnson Fieldhouse.
