MENOMONIE– The UW-Stout men's soccer team fell to Central (IA) 1-0 in a tightly contested match on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field. The Blue Devils battled hard throughout the match, but a late second-half goal by the visiting Dutch proved to be the difference.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 72nd minute when Central's Alejo Marcon found the back of the net, on a corner kick. Despite the Blue Devils' best efforts to find an equalizer in the final minutes, they were unable to convert.
The Blue Devils' defense was tested throughout the game, with the Dutch holding a significant advantage in shots, 23 to five. Of those shots, Central put six on goal, forcing a strong performance from Stout goalkeeper
Max Kutz, who made five saves on the day.
The loss brings the Blue Devils' record to 1-6-2 for the season. UW-Stout will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 24 when they travel to St. Paul, Minn. to face Hamline University.
