Blue Devils Fall Just Short at Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. – The UW-Stout men's soccer team mounted a late push but came up just short in a 2-1 loss to Beloit College on Wednesday afternoon at Strong Soccer Field.

The Buccaneers struck twice in the opening half to build a 2-0 advantage. Rafael Cervantes Jr. netted the first goal in the 20th minute, and Eziah Hernandez added a second tally seven minutes later to give Beloit the cushion.

Stout created plenty of chances to rally, outshooting Beloit 20-18 and holding a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. The Blue Devils pressed in the second half and finally broke through in the closing moments. Freshman Landen Arnstad scored his first collegiate goal in the 90th minute to cut the deficit to one, but time expired before Stout could find the equalizer.

Goalkeeper Lucas Biederman made six saves for the Blue Devils, while Beloit's David Staats and Henry Amini combined for nine stops. Davis Arvold paced Stout with five shots, including three on target, while Patrick Zich added three attempts.

With the result, UW-Stout moves to 1-5-2 on the season, while Beloit improves to 3-3-2.
