MENOMONIE, Wis. – UW-Stout men's soccer came up empty on its home weekend, falling 1-0 to Minnesota Morris on Saturday and 3-0 to Ripon College on Sunday at Nelson Field.
Minnesota Morris 1, UW-Stout 0 (Sept. 13)
Despite controlling much of the match and generating consistent offensive pressure, the Blue Devils were edged by Minnesota Morris, 1-0.
The Cougars struck in the 18th minute when Aaron Mackall found the back of the net for the game's only score.
Stout responded with relentless pressure, outshooting Morris 22-7, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman Patrick Zich and sophomore Logan Bergien each recorded three shots on target, but Cougar goalkeeper Nick Isensee stood tall with 10 saves to preserve the shutout.
Blue Devil goalkeeper Eddie Puglisi finished with two saves in the match.
Ripon 3, UW-Stout 0 (Sept. 14)
On Sunday, Stout was unable to recover from an early deficit against Ripon, falling 3-0.
The Red Hawks scored in the 5th minute through Will Rockwell and added second-half goals from Eric Staszak (66') and Carmine Di Miele (84').
Stout was limited to just one shot in the contest, a first-half effort from Landen Arnstad. The Blue Devils also played the final 38 minutes a man down after a red card in the 53rd minute.
Puglisi turned away four Ripon shots in net, but the Blue Devils were unable to generate offense against a disciplined Red Hawks defense that did not allow a shot on goal.
UW-Stout (1-4-2) will look to bounce back when the Blue Devils travel to face Beloit College on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
