SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The UW-Stout women's volleyball team capped off a dominant day at the Macalester Invitational with a pair of victories. The Blue Devils first swept Caltech 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-14) before grinding out a 3-1 triumph over host Macalester (25-22, 25-16, 20-25, 25-17) highlighted by a record-breaking performance from senior outside hitter
Brooke McCune.
Stout opened the afternoon with a commanding sweep over Caltech. The Blue Devils hit .333 as a team, with McCune leading the way at the net with 12 kills while adding 12 digs for a double-double.
Sloan Horgan chipped in 12 kills on .409 hitting, while
Devyn Masloski put down nine kills at a .389 clip.
Kailey Kline had 16 digs. Stout controlled the net with 10 total blocks, led by
Emma Barton's five.
The nightcap against host Macalester featured a historic performance. McCune smashed 29 kills, setting a new single-match program record and surpassing the previous mark of 28, held jointly by Tori Feit (vs. UW-Eau Claire, Oct. 6, 1999), Jen Carter (vs. Northland, Sept. 25, 1991), and McCune herself (vs. UW-La Crosse, Oct. 30, 2024). McCune hit a blistering .543 (29-4-46) in the 3-1 victory over the Scots.
The Blue Devils' balanced effort included 22 assists from
Lainey Todd and 18 from
Nadia Marchionda, while libero
Kailey Kline anchored the defense with 15 digs.
With the two wins, UW-Stout improves to 4-2 on the season. The Blue Devils continue action tomorrow when they travel to Moorhead, Minn. for a pair of matches at the Concordia Triangular. Stout will face host Concordia Moorhead at 1 p.m. and wrap up the road trip against North Central at 3 p.m.
