MOORHEAD, Minn. — The UW-Stout Blue Devils volleyball team secured two victories at the Concordia Triangular to move to 6-2 on the season. The Blue Devils first overcame a tough Concordia-Moorhead squad in a competitive four-set match, then dominated North Central (MN) in a clean sweep to cap the day.
In the first match of the afternoon, the Blue Devils took on the host team, Concordia-Moorhead, and came away with a hard-fought 3-1 (W, 27-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-21) victory. Stout took a competitive first set, 27-25, before dropping the second 25-18 to even the match. The Blue Devils rebounded to take the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-21, to seal the win. Standout performances included
Brooke McCune (13 kills and seven digs)
Emma Barton (eight kills, five blocks), and
Sloan Horgan added seven kills.
Lainey Todd had 19 assists and
Nadia Marchionda had 21.
Kailey Kline totaled 26 digs and
Maja Anderson added 14.
The momentum from the first win carried into the second match of the day against North Central (MN). Stout controlled the match from start to finish, sweeping the Rams in three straight sets with scores of 25-11, 25-19, and 25-14. The Blue Devils' defense was stifling, limiting North Central's offensive opportunities and forcing them into negative hitting percentage in all three sets. Stout was led by strong play from
Maja Anderson, who had two service aces and 11 digs. Brook McCune had five kills and five digs.
Lainey Todd had 14 assists.
Stout will host UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, Sept. 17 in their home opener. First-serve is set for 7 p.m. in the Johnson Fieldhouse.
