MENOMONIE– The University of Wisconsin-Stout women's soccer team kicked off the 2025 season on a strong note, securing a 1-0 non-conference win over Hamline University on Thursday evening at Nelson Field. Junior
Tessa Pagel scored the game's lone goal in the 74th minute, lifting the Blue Devils (1-0-0) to victory.
Stout dominated possession and opportunities throughout the match, outshooting the Pipers (0-1-0) by a commanding 22-2 margin. The Blue Devils generated 14 shots on target, forcing Hamline goalkeepers Maddox Fergus and Isabella Jensen to combine for 13 saves. Junior goalkeeper
Kristen Silenzi earned the shutout with just one save required, marking her first win of the season.
The first half saw Stout apply consistent pressure but unable to break through.
Anna Odisho led the attack with three shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes, while
Berklee Reelfs and
Sami Moseng each added quality chances saved by Fergus. Hamline managed no shots in the period, as the Blue Devils controlled the possession and earned two corners.
The second half followed a similar script, with Stout continuing to probe the Pipers' defense. Reelfs opened the frame with a shot on target just 16 seconds in, and Odisho followed with back-to-back saves drawn from Jensen. The breakthrough came in the 74th minute when substitute
Emma Olson delivered a precise assist to Pagel, who slotted home her first goal of the season to give Stout the lead.
Hamline had only two shots of the match – one from Alexis Geary in the 48th minute (saved by Silenzi) and another from Ellie Nhean in the 60th – but the Blue Devils' backline, anchored by
Hannah Hagman and Moseng, held firm. Stout added seven more shots in the final 15 minutes, including saves on efforts from Olson, Moseng,
Ava Tomas, and Odisho, to seal the result.
Odisho paced the Blue Devils with six shots (five on target), while Reelfs contributed three shots on goal.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday, Aug. 31 when they host Gustavus Adolphus for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Nelson Field.
