MENOMONIE (April 6, 2025) – In their final home match before a big triangular next weekend, the UW-Stout women's tennis team went toe-to-toe with Saint Mary's University, but came up just short, falling 4-3 at the South Tennis Courts.
The Blue Devils showed grit and determination throughout the afternoon, highlighted by a pair of thrilling comeback wins in singles play.
At No. 5 singles, Ashlyn Dellemann mounted an incredible rally in the second set, coming back from a 1-5 deficit to stun Kathryn Stiegel, 6-2, 7-5. Moments later, Ella Lamppa delivered a clutch performance at No. 4 singles, overcoming 1-4 deficits in both sets to defeat Christina Jones in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Stout also claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The team of Ellie Becker and Ella Lamppa took a 6-4 victory at No. 2, while Odessa Barreyro and Aspen Johnson dominated at No. 3, 6-2.
Saint Mary's (12-8) earned singles wins at the top three spots and at No. 6 to secure the team victory.
