RIPON, Wis. – Ellie Becker saved two match points and pulled off a dramatic comeback at No. 2 singles to clinch the team victory as the UW-Stout women's tennis team edged Ripon College, 4-3, Saturday morning at the Willmore Center.
With the team score sitting at 3-2 in favor of UW-Stout, Becker found herself trailing 7-9 in a super tiebreaker after splitting sets. The senior dug deep, reeling off four straight points to complete the 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 victory and deliver the decisive fourth team point.
Stout earned the early advantage by taking the doubles point. Ashlyn Dellemann and Molly Garber rolled to a 6-1 win at No. 1, while Becker and Ella Lamppa secured a 6-3 win at No. 2. Ripon claimed No. 3 doubles in a tight 7-5 contest.
In singles play, Garber was dominant at No. 1, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win. Lindsay Leuzinger cruised at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0) for the Blue Devils' third point. That set the stage for Becker's comeback at No. 2 to make it 4-2.
