MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout Blue Devils (9-19, 7-9) dropped both games of a doubleheader against UW-Platteville (13-11, 8-8) at Wakanda Park on Friday, with final scores of 6-3 and 19-8 (7 Inn.).
In the opener, Stout took an early lead with a solo home run in the first from
Kevin Zanin. Platteville tied it in the top of the second on a solo homer. Stout regained the lead in the bottom of the third on a
Leyten Bowers RBI single. Platteville responded with a two-run shot in the fifth and another two run homer in the eighth. Jake Wegner led the Pioneers, hitting a two-run homer and pitching a complete game, striking out 12 while allowing three runs on six hits. Stout's
Drew Buss took the loss, giving up four runs over six innings.
The second game saw Platteville erupt for 10 runs in the second inning, hitting four home runs in the inning. The Pioneers finished with seven home runs and 20 hits. Stout countered with two-run home runs from
Leyten Bowers and
Austin Miller and a grand slam from
Justin Sedin.
UW-Stout will look to rebound as they wrap up the four-game series with a doubleheader against UW-Platteville on Saturday April 19, starting at noon at Wakanda Park.
