MENOMONIE - The University of Wisconsin-Stout baseball team secured a commanding sweep over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers in a baseball doubleheader at Wakanda Park. winning 8-1 and 9-6, Stout showcased offensive prowess and solid pitching to improve their record to 11-19, 9-9, while Platteville fell to 13-13. 8-10.
Game 1: Wis.-Stout 8, Wis.-Platteville 1
Stout dominated the opener, jumping to an early lead and never looking back. The Blue Devils struck first in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead off of a two-runner homer by
Austin Miller. They added two more runs in the third inning, with
Justin Sedin's two-run homer proving pivotal. The seventh inning saw Stout score three more runs, Ausitn Miller drove in one on a single down the left field line,
Kevin Zanin scored on a balk and Sedin drove in the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right.
Nolan Harke's sacrifice fly in the eighth sealed the 8-1 victory.
Luke Carrier, was stellar, scattering five hits, striking out five over eight scoreless innings of work.
Austin Miller led the Blue Devils at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, and three RBIs, while
Justin Sedin added a homer and three RBI.
Game 2: Wis.-Stout 9, Wis.-Platteville 6
The Blue Devils took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, with
Austin Miller scoring on a
AJ Kargel Sacrifice fly and
Leyten Bowers coming across on a wild pitch. Platteville responded, taking a 4-2 lead by the fifth inning, thanks to home runs from J. Wegner and C. Gresens. However, Stout regained control in the bottom of the fifth,
Austin Miller hit a three-run homer to left to give Stout a 5-4 lead. Miller homered again in the seventh to give Stout a 7-5 lead and
Jake Thomas hit a two run shot to left in the eighth to extend the lead to 9-5.
Austin Miller earned the win for Stout, pitching six innings and allowing four runs on six hits.
