ST. PETER, Minn. – The UW-Stout Blue Devils baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against #22 Gustavus Adolphus Wednesday afternoon at Gustie Baseball Field. The Gusties won game one 13-3 in 8 innings and secured a 13-11 victory in a tightly contested game two.
Game 1: Gustavus Adolphus 13, UW-Stout 3 (8 innings)
Gustavus Adolphus took control early, scoring six runs in the first three innings. UW-Stout got on the board in the first when
Billy Jones scored on a passed ball.
Michael Pustelnik hit a solo home run in the fourth and
Leyten Bowers drove in a run with a single in the eighth. The Gusties scored four runs in the sixth and two in the eighth to end the game via the run rule. Bowers and Pustelnik each had two hits.
Game 2: Gustavus Adolphus 13, UW-Stout 11
The second game was a high-scoring affair. The Blue Devils took an early lead when
Kevin Zanin scored on a wild pitch in the first.
Justin Sedin's RBI double in the fourth made it 2-4, and Stout surged ahead with a five-run fifth inning, highlighted by Leyten Bower's three-run triple. Gustavus responded with a six-run seventh to take a 12-7 lead. Stout battled back with three runs in the eighth, including
Derek Carlson's home run, but fell short. Carlson led Stout with three hits, Bowers and Sedin each had two hits.
The Blue Devils (9-17) return home to host a doubleheader with UW-Platteville on Friday, April 18, at 1 p.m. at Wakanda Park.
