DECATUR, Ill. – The UW-Stout baseball team opened its 2025 season with a hard-fought extra-inning battle against Hamline before falling in a shutout to Coe College in a doubleheader at Workman Baseball Field on Saturday.
Game 1: Hamline 5, UW-Stout 4 (10 Innings)
UW-Stout (0-2) started strong against Hamline (2-6), taking an early lead with a two-run double by Ryan Kelly in the first inning. The game remained a back-and-forth affair, with Justin Sedin and Billy Jones contributing offensively. Stout tied the game in the eighth inning on a clutch Drew Ries single, but Hamline walked it off in the 10th with a sacrifice fly after loading the bases. Tim Kohls provided a strong relief effort with 3.2 scoreless innings, but Daniel Kinney (0-1) took the loss in extra innings.
Game 2: Coe 2, UW-Stout 0
Stout struggled to generate offense against Coe (1-0), managing just three hits in the contest. Justin Sedin led Stout with two hits, while AJ Kargel added another in the ninth, but the Blue Devils couldn't bring runners across. Austin Miller (0-1) and Luke Carrier pitched well for Stout, but two runs—one in the fourth and another in the sixth—proved to be the difference.
