UW-Stout Softball Drops Doubleheader to Hamline and No. 4 Rowan

CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-Stout softball team opened its spring break trip in Florida with a tough doubleheader, falling 13-1 to Hamline University in game one before dropping a 10-2 decision to undefeated No. 4-ranked Rowan University in game two.

Game 1: Hamline 13, UW-Stout 1 (5 Inn.)

Hamline (4-3) jumped out early, scoring in every inning to secure a five-inning, 13-1 victory over UW-Stout (2-9). The Blue Devils managed six hits but struggled to bring runners home, plating their only run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Liz Rohl that scored Stephanie Kuhn.

Hamline took advantage of three UW-Stout errors and racked up 13 hits, including a seven-run fourth inning that broke the game open. Payton Dolecki, Emma Muehlenbeck, and Elly Holden each recorded hits for UW-Stout, while Anna Blanford (1-5) took the loss in the circle, surrendering four runs over two innings.

Game 2: No. 4 Rowan 10, UW-Stout 2 (5 Inn.)

Facing their toughest opponent of the season, UW-Stout (2-10) battled against No. 4 Rowan (16-0) but ultimately fell 10-2 in five innings. Rowan jumped ahead with three runs in the first and a six-run second inning before UW-Stout responded with a two-run fifth.

Dolecki continued her strong play at the plate, going 2-for-3. Emma Muehlenbeck and Elly Holden each drove in a run in the fifth, but the Blue Devils couldn't keep pace with the powerful Rowan offense, which tallied 11 hits.

Samantha Bergeron (1-4) took the loss for UW-Stout, allowing six runs in 1.2 innings. Anna Blanford pitched in relief, striking out three over 2.2 innings of work.

  • Payton Dolecki went 3-for-5 on the day, continuing to lead the Blue Devils offensively.

  • Elly Holden recorded an RBI in both games.
