CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-Stout softball team made history Wednesday, tossing a combined no-hitter in a dominant 13-2 five-inning win over Augsburg, marking the program's first no-hitter since 2003. The Blue Devils followed up with a convincing 10-3 victory over SUNY Geneseo, capping off a successful day in Florida.
Game 1: UW-Stout 13, Augsburg 2 (5 Innings)
The Blue Devils wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for five runs in the second inning and six more in the third to put the game out of reach. Pitchers Kennedy Hodgeman,
Samantha Bergeron and
Anna Blanford combined for a no-hitter, with Bergeron earning the win and Blanford securing the save with four hitless innings and five strikeouts.
Offensively,
Emma Muehlenbeck led the charge, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while
Liz Rohl drove in three runs. Stout took advantage of nine walks and 10 hits to keep the pressure on Augsburg.
Game 2: UW-Stout 10, Geneseo 3
Stout carried its offensive momentum into the second game, collecting 18 hits en route to a decisive 10-3 win over Geneseo.
Anna Blanford went the distance in the circle, scattering 14 hits while allowing just three runs with three strikeouts.
The Blue Devils struck for four runs in the fourth inning to break open a close game and added three more in the fifth.
Alexa Anderson led the offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, while Rayni Bresnahan added three hits and two RBIs. Muehlenbeck continued her stellar day with two more hits and two RBIs.
With the two wins, UW-Stout improves to 4-10 on the season and looks to build on its strong performances as the Florida trip continues Friday, March 21 when they face Simpson College and Fredonia State
