PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UW-Stout baseball team battled hard in a pair of games against Grinnell College on Saturday but ultimately came up short in both contests, falling 10-6 in game one and 6-1 in game two.
Game One: Grinnell 10, UW-Stout 6
The Blue Devils jumped out to early leads, scoring twice in the second inning and adding another run in the third to take a 3-2 advantage. Key hits from Billy Jones (double), Justin Sedin, and Drew Ries helped push across runs for UW-Stout. The team extended the lead with two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh, going up 6-4.
However, Grinnell responded late, plating two in the seventh to tie the game and then erupting for four runs in the eighth inning to pull away. The Blue Devils were hurt by four defensive errors, and the Pioneers capitalized on key at-bats to secure the victory. Tim Kohls (0-1) took the loss in relief, while Grinnell's J. Gutta picked up the win.
Game Two: Grinnell 6, UW-Stout 1
Game two saw the Blue Devils struggle to find offensive rhythm, recording six hits but managing just one run. Billy Jones led the way with a two-hit performance, and Ryan Kelly drove in UW-Stout's lone run in the first inning.
Grinnell took control with two runs in the second and never looked back, tacking on additional runs in the fourth and seventh. The Blue Devils had opportunities but were unable to capitalize, leaving six runners on base. Easton Vertz (0-1) suffered the loss, while Ros earned the win for Grinnell.
