UW-Stout Cruises Past Dubuque in Paxton Pack Classic Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Returning to action after the holiday break, the UW-Stout women's basketball team opened the Paxton Pack Classic in impressive fashion, rolling to a 76–52 victory over host Dubuque on Monday night at the Stoltz Sports Center.

The Blue Devils (8–2) set the tone early and never trailed, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to pull away from the Spartans (4–6). After a tight opening quarter, Stout seized control in the second period, outscoring Dubuque 24–9 to build a commanding halftime lead.

The highlight of the first half came at the buzzer, when Maraya Wiltrout banked in a three-pointer to send Stout into the locker room with momentum and a 39–23 advantage. The shot capped a dominant second quarter that featured strong rebounding, forced turnovers, and efficient shooting on the offensive end.

UW-Stout continued to extend the lead after halftime, shooting nearly 77 percent in the third quarter while stretching the margin to as many as 26 points. Grace Schisel led the way offensively, pouring in a career-high 17 points as a Blue Devil, including four three-pointers off the bench. Wiltrout added 11 points, while Addy Verhagen finished with 12 points and five assists. The Blue Devils also received double-figure scoring from Brooklynn Birt, who chipped in 10 points.

Defensively, Stout limited Dubuque to 36.5 percent shooting for the game and forced 21 turnovers, converting those miscues into 26 points. The Blue Devils also held a significant edge inside, scoring 44 points in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 43–29.
