GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – UW-Stout went toe-to-toe with No. 12-ranked Calvin University for 30 minutes, but a cold stretch in the second half allowed the Knights to pull away for an 81-66 win Saturday afternoon at Van Noord Arena.
The Blue Devils came out firing from deep, hitting eight first-half three-pointers to build a 43-37 lead at the break. Jackson Wilhelmson sparked the offense with four triples in the opening half on his way to 12 points, while Domanyck Schwarzenberger attacked the rim and delivered 11 first-half points.
Stout remained in front until midway through the second half before Calvin's inside presence took control. The Knights shot 58.6 percent from the floor after halftime and held Stout to just six field goals in the final 20 minutes. Calvin outscored Stout 44-23 in the second half.
Schwarzenberger led Stout with 17 points, going 12 for 12 at the free throw line and adding four rebounds and three assists. Wesley Mboga hit four three-pointers and finished with 13 points, while Wilhelmson scored all 12 of his points from behind the arc. Aidan Shore added eight points and a pair of blocks, and Collin Vick filled the stat sheet with four points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Stout forced 12 Calvin turnovers and recorded 10 steals while scoring 15 fast-break points, but the Knights held a 44-28 advantage on the glass and outscored the Blue Devils 42-4 in the paint.
Calvin was led by Jalen Overway's 21 points and 16 rebounds, while Luka Ressler added 18 points and Trevin Winkle posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
UW-Stout (2-2) returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they travel to St. Paul, Minn. to face the Hamline Pipers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
