SAINT PAUL, Minn. — UW-Stout put together stretches of strong shooting and a 37-point effort from its bench, but Hamline University's hot start proved too much to overcome as the Blue Devils dropped an 85–68 decision Tuesday night at Hutton Arena.
Hamline opened the game shooting over 60 percent in the first half to build a 49–34 advantage at the break. Stout battled throughout the second half—cutting the margin to 15 multiple times—but the Pipers continued to find answers in transition and in the paint.
Tyrel Creger led the Blue Devils with 13 points off the bench, knocking down a pair of threes while adding an assist and a steal. Domanyck Schwarzenberger finished with 10 points—including a pair of threes and four made free throws—and Collin Vick provided a team-high eight rebounds to go with six points.
Stout's reserves again produced at a high level. In addition to Creger's 13, Jackson Wilhelmson added six points, Colin Hudson and Gavin Johnson each chipped in five, and Dominic Croci scored four in an efficient late stretch.
Hamline was paced by Dominic Dosmann's 22 points, while the Pipers finished the night shooting 55 percent from the field.
Despite the setback, the Blue Devils generated 10 three-pointers and outrebounded Hamline on the offensive glass, 10–6.
