JANESVILLE, Wis. — UW-Stout wasted no time making a statement in its WIAC opener, erupting for an 8–3 win at Beloit College on Thursday evening. The victory marked the Blue Devils' fourth straight and came with a cascade of history-making moments as Beloit made its debut season in the WIAC.
The Blue Devils showcased their speed, pressure, and special teams dominance all night — and especially in a second period that will sit in the program record book for a long time.
Stout scored three shorthanded goals, pushing their season total to six, the most in the country through five games. Even more staggering was a stretch in the second period where Stout scored three goals in 43 seconds, shattering a program record previously set in 1972. Moments later, the Blue Devils added a fourth in the span of 1:58, breaking another record dating back to 2006.
Tristan Therrien scored Stout's second goal of the game — assisted by Hayden Stocks and Nicolas Pigeon — before the shorthanded fireworks began.
Hayden Stocks continued his scorching start to the season with two goals and three assists, bringing his team-leading total to 10 points in just five games. Stocks factored into five of Stout's eight goals and played a major role in the record-setting shorthanded burst.
Nicolas Pigeon added a goal and three assists, including one during the shorthanded run. Kullan Daikawa capped the frenzy with a third straight shorthanded tally at 9:59 of the second, while Arhip Sidarovich (who opened the scoring), Tyler Pfister, and Therrien also found the back of the net.
Goaltender Ryan Knight turned away 30 shots in a steady performance that allowed Stout to maintain momentum throughout the night.
The win moves UW-Stout to 4–1 on the season and 1–0 in WIAC play.
