MENOMONIE, Wis. – UW-Stout used a fast start and relentless rebounding to cruise past Maranatha Baptist 85-56 on Tuesday night at Johnson Fieldhouse, improving to 3-1 on the season.
The Blue Devils led wire-to-wire after a Grant Brock turnover led to a Wesley Mboga steal and Mason Stoik three that put Stout ahead 5-4 at the 17:17 mark of the first half. From there, Stout steadily pulled away, taking a 45-28 lead into halftime and pushing the margin to as many as 29 in the second half.
Four players scored in double figures for the Blue Devils, led by a trio of 14-point performances from Stoik (5-13 FG, 2-5 3PT), Domanyck Schwarzenberger (5-13 FG, 3-6 3PT), and Mboga (5-10 FG, 2-6 3PT). Aidan Shore added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds on 5-8 shooting.
Off the bench, Jackson Wilhelmson chipped in 9 points (4-10 FG) and four steals in 18 minutes, while Nolan Stauffacher dominated the glass with 7 rebounds to go with 8 points and 3 blocked shots in just 14 minutes.
Stout owned the paint (52-24) and the boards (50-31) while the bench contributed 32 points.
Maranatha Baptist (2-5) was led by Will Schultz's game-high 16 points. Grant Brock added 11 points and 9 rebounds, but the Sabercats shot only 19.0% (4-21) from three and were outscored 17-4 on second-chance points.
