Moorhead, Minn. (November 16, 2025) – The UW-Stout women's basketball team put up a valiant fight but couldn't overcome a strong fourth-quarter push by Concordia-Moorhead, falling 81-66 in a non-conference matchup at Memorial Auditorium on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils (2-2) battled back from an early deficit to take a brief lead in the third quarter, but the Cobbers (3-1) pulled away late with a 24-12 scoring edge in the final period.
Stout trailed 19-11 after the first quarter as Concordia capitalized on efficient shooting (7-of-17) and forced six Blue Devil turnovers. The Blue Devils bounced back in the second, outscoring the Cobbers 20-16 behind balanced scoring and improved ball movement.
Addy Verhagen sparked the offense with seven assists overall, while sophomore guard
Mary Berg added 13 points and six assists for the game. At halftime, Stout had closed the gap to 35-31.
The third quarter saw Stout's best stretch, as they outscored Concordia 23-22 to only trail by three at 57-54 heading into the fourth. Berg and Verhagen combined for 10 points in the period, including back-to-back threes that fueled a 10-3 run midway through. Senior forward
Rosella Wille contributed 10 points and three steals on the day.
However, Concordia dominated the final frame, shooting 7-of-13 from the field and converting 10-of-11 free throws. The Cobbers' pressure defense limited Stout to just 4-of-15 shooting and forced four turnovers, turning those into seven points.
Verhagen led Stout with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, adding seven assists and a steal. Berg finished with 13 points, including 3-of-9 from beyond the arc, while Wille chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.
Olivia Johnson added nine points and five rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Blue Devils shot 38 percent (24-of-63) from the field, hit seven threes, and outrebounded Concordia 37-39. They also scored 30 points in the paint and 17 off turnovers but were hampered by 16 total giveaways and 29 personal fouls.
Stout returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 when the host Maranatha Baptist for a 5 p.m. tip at the Johnson Fieldhouse. The Blue Devil men's basketball team will follow at 7 p.m. against Maranatha Baptist.
