WINONA, Minn. – The UW-Stout men's soccer team struck first but couldn't hold off a strong second-half push from Saint Mary's University, falling 4-1 Wednesday evening at Ochrymowycz Field.
Roberto Perez put the Blue Devils on the board early in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 47th minute off a feed from Sven Oberg to give Stout a 1-0 lead. However, the Cardinals responded quickly with two goals just minutes apart, then added two more in the final 15 minutes to seal the match.
Perez recorded his team-leading goal of the season, while Oberg picked up his first assist of the year. Goalkeeper Eddie Puglisi made seven saves in the contest as Stout fended off 20 total shots from Saint Mary's.
UW-Stout finished with six shots, three on target, and earned five corner kicks.
The Blue Devils (1-9-3) return home Saturday to take on UW-Whitewater under the lights at Nelson Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
