MENOMONIE – The UW-Stout women's soccer team opened Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a hard-fought 1-1 tie against UW-Platteville on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field.
Hannah Hagman's second-half equalizer proved crucial as the Blue Devils (6-4-2, 0-0-1 WIAC) rallied from an early deficit to earn a point against the Pioneers (6-3-2, 0-0-1 WIAC).
Platteville struck first in the 13th minute when Jess Morawski capitalized on a corner kick sequence, finishing a pass from Sarah Liljestrand to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Stout's defense held firm after the goal, limiting Platteville's opportunities.
The Blue Devils came out aggressive after the break, generating eight shots in the second half. Their persistence paid off in the 73rd minute when
Hannah Hagman found a loose ball in space and drove in her first goal of the season off the bar and off the keeper to level the score at 1-1.

Kaitlyn Krengel was stellar for Stout, making seven saves—including key stops to keep the Blue Devils in the game. Platteville's Marguerite Mueller recorded five saves in the tie.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Eau Claire, Wis. to face the Blugolds. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. at Simpson Field.
