WHITEWATER – The 20
th ranked UW-Stout football team fell to No. 9 UW-Whitewater, 34-2, in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup on Friday night at Perkins Stadium. The Blue Devils (now 4-2, 2-1) were limited offensively against a tough Warhawk defense, managing just 197 total yards while surrendering eight sacks. Whitewater (5-1, 2-1) pulled away in the second half behind a dominant rushing attack that amassed 268 yards.
The game remained scoreless through the first quarter as both defenses set the tone early. Whitewater broke through in the second with a 24-yard field goal at the 10:03 mark, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime. Stout's offense showed flashes, with senior quarterback
Adam Moen completing 23 of 45 passes for 196 yards, but three interceptions and consistent pressure hindered drives.
Whitewater extended its lead in the third with a pair of touchdowns — a 45-yard run and a short 3-yard scoring pass before Stout's defense got on the board with a safety when a bad Whitewater snap on a punt rolled out the back of the endzone to make it 17-2.
The Warhawks added three more scores in the fourth quarter, as the Blue Devils' offense struggled to move the ball against an aggressive UWW front that tallied eight sacks and forced three interceptions.
Quarterback
Adam Moen completed 23 of 45 passes for 196 yards, connecting with
Davonte Evans eight times for 57 yards and
Avron Carter six times for 44 yards.
Kade Tappen added 46 receiving yards on two grabs.
Defensively,
Blaine Seidl led Stout with a career-high16 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a shared sack.
Cole Saenger and
Dawson Goodman added nine and 12 tackles, respectively.
UW-Stout returns home next Saturday, October 25, to face UW-Stevens Point for homecoming at Don and Nona Williams Stadium.
