Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Knight Earns First Career Shutout, Blue Devils Beat Gusties 2-0

The Basics
Score: UW-Stout 2, (RV) Gustavus Adolphus College 0
Record:
 Blue Devils (9-6-1), Gusties (10-6)
Location: Don Roberts Ice Rink- St. Peter, Minn.

Freshman goaltender Ryan Knight stopped all twenty-one Gustie shots en route to his first career shutout on Friday night. Gustavus Adolphus College was receiving votes to be ranked nationally prior to this week, but it was the Blue Devils that would come away victorious, extending the UW-Stout winning streak to three games.

UW-Stout opened the scoring at the 7:51 mark of the first period after Tristan Therrien scored his first goal as a Blue Devil. Stout was able to maintain the 1-0 lead going into the first intermission, despite being out-shot 10 to 5. The Blue Devils then went up 2-0 on a short-handed goal at the 2:48 mark of the second. This time it was Kullan Daikawa beating the Gustie goalie, his sixth goal of the season. The remainder of the second period featured the Gusties continuing to add to their shot total, now holding a 17-7 advantage after 40 minutes, still scoreless courtesy of a stingy Blue Devil back end.

The Blue Devils were able to contain Gustavus in the third period, only allowing four shots in the period, and again holding the Gusties scoreless. Neither team was successful on the power play as the Gusties went 0-for-5 and the Blue Devils went 0-for-4.  Gustavus Adolphus out-shot the Blue Devils 21-12 on the night, but opportunistic offense, lock-down defense, and great goaltending were enough to propel UW-Stout to their ninth win of the season.
